About Holly Schmude

I grew up in Traverse City and moved away after college. I found that the only time I truly escaped was when I was up North taking in all of the natural beauty, culture and pace of life. To find a place up North it allows me to spend quality time with my family and the peace we were all seeking.

Cute cottage on Green Lake

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time on Green Lake. We rented a pontoon boat, went fishing, listened to concerts and had great family time.

Perfect for the week

  • 4 of 5

Had a lovely time in Interlochen w/ the family..husband, 3 kids (15, 13, 11) and my folks (for some of the time). There was plenty of space for us all, and having the lake right outside our back door was sooo nice to wake up to. Kids were in the 2 kayaks all the time or hanging out by the dock. We took our little boat, and were able to take the kids fishing or tubing every day. We took day trips into Traverse City and Suttons Bay, and the rest of the time just enjoyed the quiet. My boys were disappointed in the fishing on the lake. Out every day/night and only caught 1 bass! Duck Lake proved more successful however, and we were able to have enough to eat for a fish fry one night. The cottage was clean and cozy and there is even a dishwasher now, which I thought there wouldn't be. Yipee! I'd say the only complaint we had was that the very out of date oven did not work well (1 pan of brownies ruined and 1 potato dish that never cooked). Nothing we couldn't get over.

Beautiful setting, warm cabin like interior

  • 5 of 5

I should not rate this place so highly because you all may crowd us off the calendar next year. Just a lovely setting, we were there in early June, it was so quiet and peaceful! Very clean, decorated very cute. Songbirds are quite extraordinary in the morning. Easy commute to TC for shopping. Great wifi, spectacular sunrise views from the dinner table. Comfy beds, 2 full baths. Very kind Hosts.

Fantastic vacation in a beautiful part of Northern Michigan!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 7 nights at the Lazy Lodge in early August. We had 2 adults, a 12 year old, and 3 kids under 4 with us for the entire week and the lodge was excellent. We had some extra guests visit on a couple of midweek days and it became a little bit tight but the place does cater well for extra....10 was tight but the owners have done with the set up. The house is spacious and has all the main amenities that you would need; we didn't miss the laundry facilities as we planned in advance and didn't want to be doing laundry on vacation anyway.

We chose this place based on the location and it being right on the lake. The lake itself is great for kids and we all loved swimming, kayaking, fishing etc - the water was perfect.

All in all, I highly recommend. We had amazing weather and visited some amazing places in Northern Michigan. As a Scotsman, I didn't think it would be as nice the West coast of my country but Northern Michigan has taken me by surprise!

Green Lake gem

  • 5 of 5

Our family - 2 adults and 5 kids - stayed for a week this summer and we had a great time. The lake and water are as described- beautiful and clear. The kids spent hours in the water, and we enjoyed the kayaks that were at the house. Being so close to the water made our stay in Interlochen even more relaxing than usual. The fire pit for s'mores was happily used frequently. The house is comfortable and clean, but it doesn't have a dishwasher or washer/dryer. I thought the house was roomier and brighter than suggested by the photos. If you're looking for a home just yards from a beautiful lake, that is close to all of the local sights- Interlochen, Sleeping Bear, Empire, and Traverse City- this is a wonderful place to stay.
