About Ed Miller
In 2010 Becca and I were able to take our two boys, Russell (8yrs) and Joseph(6yrs) and move back 'home' to Boone. We wanted our boys to grow up in a rural area where they could grow and explore. This property is full of history and memories that we wanted to share with our now with out guests.
Ed Miller purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Ed Miller chose Meat Camp
This property was sold in 1957 by Ed's Grandfather to a school teacher in Florida for a price 'no one would take'. 53 yrs later Ed and Becca were able to buy the property back and turn in to weekend/short term rentals. The property is nestled in 200 acres of family farmland. With a creek, waterfalls, and plenty area to just roam, it is a great place to just get away. The original Cabin was made from the same logs that came from the cabin Ed's dad was born in in 1924. It is a cozy place where you can just relax. Just 5 minutes from Boone, you are also close to the many activities the high county has to offer.
What makes this Cabin unique
The trails will lead you into the woods where you find a creek that will sooth you body and mind. The creek offers many opportunities for both young and old. With a waterfall, places for children to explore, and space for adults to reflect and relax. From the front porch you can look over the valley of Howard's creek while watching the sun rise. This is a quiet retreat where many folks have come to rest and relax. The Cabin welcomes couples and families who want to just "Un-Plug"

The property was even more charming in person than the pictures online. The yard and trails were beautiful to explore, especially the creek. It was so peaceful, relaxing and cozy. You can tell the owners take pride in their home and maintain it well. While excluded and private, the property is only a short drive to dinning. My family had a wonderful time here!
This is a true old cabin with lots of charm great get away
I loved the stone floors the adorable milk glass lamps and the beautiful views were amazing covered in snow we even got to sled one day. We realy enjoyed watching the cows . Blowing rock was a great place to visit and we even ended up with a 4 ct garnet from doc's rocks great memories were made
Looks just like pictures. We loved the log cabin. Everything you need for a relaxing stay.
Lovely little cabin! My husband and I stayed here for our first anniversary and loved it! Ed and his wife went out of there way to help us out, we thought we were going to be snowed in the morning we had planned on leaving and ED's his wife was willing to get us food or anything we might have needed if we where going to be snowed in, they went way out of there way to help us there great people! Oh and by the way the bed is sooo comfortable!! Thank you Miller family it was great!!
An overall great experience in a rustic cabin.
This was just what we were looking for, a peaceful cabin with an outdoor feel yet close enough to downtown Boone for food and shopping. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the cows in the pasture and a short hike to the nearby waterfall. It's was a wet week so it was nice to have 4wd to make it up the short, gravel hill to the cabin.
Perfect family get away.
We had an excellent time at the cabin. We were greeted by Oreo she and the kids became instant buddies. We had a wonderful local gentelman deliver us wood for the wood stove and it kept the cabin nice and cozy. We enjoy one day tubing at Sugar Mountain and another day we went and visited Ashe County Cheese (Ed’s suggestion) and watched them make cheese. We also hiked a trail behind the cabin and got to sled in the yard. We were blessed to have a snow covered lawn when we arrived and then it snowed on our second day. We also celebrated my mother in laws 74th Birthday and even she enjoyed sledding down the hill.
Thank you Miller Family for letting us enjoy this amazing piece of history. We look forward to a return trip soon.
