Wunderschönes Haus - Wonderful Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to AMI and after the astonishment of this wonderful Island we were speechless when we were allowed to enter our house.

This house exceeded all our wildest expectations and we spent the most wonderful holiday of our lives there and I was able to experience my 50th birthday there.

If we go back to AMI we will certainly book this hotel again with its exclusive facilities and the loving furnishings - the relaxing pool and the chill cabana.

We fell in love with this house and enjoyed every single day .

Owner's Response: Kirsten, Thank you for reviewing Whispering Winds and happy belated birthday! We are so glad that our home played a role in making your birthday special. We also enjoy lounging in the cabana and watching a little TV in between dips in the pool. One of my favorite things to do is enjoying my morning coffee on the balcony watching the sun rise, what a great way to start the day! For sunsets we walk 5 minutes to Bean Point for the incredibly relaxing nightly show. We would love to have you back again, just call Ellie, Suzanne and Bob.

Wonderful home, wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to AMI and it surpassed expectations. Upon arrival the house was clean and we appreciated the binder with lots of helpful info for island newbies. The home is as lovely as the photos and worked very well for my family of 4. There's a great water view off the balcony which was ideal for morning coffee. While there wasn't much need for cooking, the kitchen was well appointed with everything you could possibly need. The pool and outdoor space is where we spent a large amount of time. My 4 year old loved the pool and the covered outside seating area made it comfortable whether you preferred to be in the sun or the shade. I'm pretty tall so I particularly enjoyed the rain shower in the bathroom! In my experience renting beach homes, the outdoor grill is often an after thought. I was surprised to see a large new gas grill that was clean and ready to enjoy.

We loved the proximity to plenty of restaurants and shops. The kids loved "The Donut Experiment" and Ginny & Jane E's for breakfast is a must. The Mote Marine Aquarium was a hit with the family and it was a great opportunity to enjoy a scenic drive across the island. The island pace might be a little slow if you have teens but we were just 20 minutes away from Bradenton where you could find bowling, miniature golf, movie theaters, etc.

We had the pleasure of meeting Bob during our stay who was friendly, attentive and very helpful. Everyone we met on the island were warm and welcoming.

Overall, this house was an absolute hit for us. AMI is a peaceful gem away from all the busy beaches and maddening traffic. They truly are on island time there. We will definitely be back. I highly recommend Gulf Islands Vacation Rentals!

Owner's Response: Greg and Family, It may have been your first trip to Anna Maria Island but it doesn’t sound like it will be your last! We do try to make sure Whispering Winds is sparkling clean and has all the amenities our guests might need including the kitchen items, but like you we don’t seem to cook much as there are so many great restaurants around! Seems like you discovered some of the fun restaurants but there are a lot more which can all be accessed by the great free trolley! We tend to use the pool and utilize the balconies for the great views as you did but Mote Marine is one of our favorites when we do venture out! For folks that do have teens Bridge Street on the South end of the island does have miniature Golf and a few other activities and there are of course several places to rent water sport items from paddle boards to jet skis! We know we have the best rental agency in town with Gulf Islands Vacation Rentals and we are glad you got to meet Bob and experience the hospitality that everyone at the agency displays. Ellis, Suzanne and Bob are responsible for the little amenities like the Welcome Guide with all of the helpful information and for making sure the grill and the outdoor areas are clean and ready to go for our incoming guests. It is one of the services that they offer to us at no additional charge if you can believe that! We do hope to see you back on our little slice of Paradise very soon!!

Wonderful home on a family friendly island

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Anna Maria Island. The location of the home on the island was great as it is just a few seconds walk to the bay beach and just a five-ten minute walk to the gulf side beach at Bean Point. After experiencing the island for nine days I'm glad we rented a home on the north end of the island.

As for the home itself my wife and I agreed that it was the nicest vacation home that we have ever rented. It's very new and nicely decorated. We really enjoyed the wood floors throughout the home and the wood in the ceilings that you can see in the listing photographs. The kitchen was great and had everything you needed to prepare a meal.

There isn't a table to eat your meals but rather a high bar area that was an extension of the kitchen counters. This didn't bother us.

The third floor has two queen bedrooms that share a full bathroom. The bedrooms also share a deck which was nice. Both bedrooms have plenty of closet space and have small flat screen televisions with access to basic cable channels. I saw a complaint about limited television channel options in a previous review and we didn't experience a similar problem. We always found plenty to watch at night.

The first floor pool cabana area was great and the kids loved the pool. The landscaping around the pool was very nice as well. We used the pool every day.

The only issues that I can think of regarding the house are minor. #1. We found the beds to be very firm and uncomfortable. So much so that we drove to Target after the first night and purchased a foam mattress cover for the bef we were using. The kids didn't seem to mind so we left theirs as it was. I suppose this is all a matter of preference. We sleep on a tempur pedic at home and we knew it was going to be a rough remaining trip in regards to lack of sleep if we didn't do something. We left the mattress pad there for future guests but it may have been removed. Issue #2. There weren't enough places to hang bath towels. With four people taking showers there should be space for four towels between the two bathrooms. The towel rack in the upstairs bathroom was narrow. Again, this is a very minor issue and hardly worth complaining about.

We enjoyed the island and liked that there were almost zero chain restaurants and nearly 100% small businesses. We had several good meals on the island. My kids loved the Two Scoops icecream parlor.

I would recommend this home to anyone and we would rent the home again.

Owner's Response: Craig and Family, Thank you for the wonderful compliments on our home and yes, the North End of the island is definitely our favorite although each city has its own unique charm and benefits but if you are looking for peace and quiet the Anna Maria City is the place to be. We decided to put the high top table in to save on space and also our meals are very casual when we are at the beach house as we just fine so many other things to occupy our time! We’re also glad to hear that you found the TV’s adequate as we could never quite understand watching so much TV when the island is just so beautiful. I prefer sitting on the top deck and reading a book and listening to the surf or sitting by the pool as you suggest! We do sleep on very firm mattresses so yes; it is certainly a matter of personal choice but thank you for purchasing the foam mattress cover. We will make it available for future guests who prefer the softer feel as you do. The towel hooks are an easy fix and we will make sure that is done as well. I see you did discover our wonderful Mom and Pop shops and restaurants! Good for you…we love the fact that they are all so unique and not chains also. See you soon and again thank you for taking the time to review our home.

Very Good Location and Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to AMI and also the third property that we have rented. The property is beautifully decorated and very near the Rod & Reel Pier. The North end of the island is an excellent location as its is quiet but within walking distance of both the AMI Piers and also Pine Avenue with its shops and restaurants and the very convenient trolly bus. This property is excellent and beautifully decorated throughout and provides you with a very good retreat after being out in the hot weather, which happened to be the hottest June on record for some time when we visited.

Owner's Response: Robert, Thank you for reviewing Whispering Winds, we’re glad you enjoyed staying at our home! We also love how our home is located so close to the beach, shops and restaurants! The Rod and Reel pier is our favorite breakfast place and the scenery is beautiful. June was a little hotter than usual but in the summertime I find myself spending the mornings at the beach, the afternoons cooling off in the pool and lounging in the cabana area. We hope that you will stay at Whispering Winds on your next trip to Anna Maria Island!

Wonderful and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to AMI. We usually stay at Siesta Key or Longboat. This home and location are by far our favorite thus far. It's a few steps from the bay which is wonderful for kids. We were seeing live star fish and sand dollars almost every step we took in the water. Short walk to both piers which have fishing and restaurants. It's not easy to lay on the bay side so it's more for play. We rented bikes and took a very short ride to the gulf side. So many different beach access points so it was quick and little effort to get there. Manatee Are on the point where the gulf meets the bay...... There is an under current at the top so I did not suggest being there to swim- with that said we went two house down from that and were fine. He was swimming all around us !!! - don't touch them though as its a state law to leave them be. The home was very well kept and well decorated. The private pool was wonderful but you can't get in with sunscreen so it's more of an after 3 pm thing. The outside shower could be better placed as its not private and close to the house and pool.... Just more for a quick rinse than shower really. Only thing I would suggest is a bathroom on the lower level or in the storage area - you have to go upstairs in the living area to use the bathrooms.... Not very quick if your coming out of the pool or beach. Overall, we loved it and will be back- my mother is planning to go there in the fall if available :)

Also quick walk to all the shops!! Very nice!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review about Whispering Winds. I’m glad that our home played a role in your memorable family vacation! We like the beach on the bay for its tranquility and proximity to our home but some days like to take the 5-minute stroll over to the gulf side where it’s a little bigger. We do provide a beach cart for our guests along with chairs and towels. That’s great that you were able to swim with the Manatees, they are such docile creatures but of course they do move around constantly so they are not always at the North End point! Sorry that you picked a day that there was an undercurrent on the North End but just like the Manatees they can occur anywhere on a barrier island depending on tides and wave action but is very rare under normal conditions. We would’ve loved to add a bathroom on the bottom floor but Anna Maria Island zoning and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management) prohibits newly built homes from doing so as we are a barrier island with very stict flood rules and regulations! Please contact Ellie, Suzanne and Bob to schedule your mother’s fall visit.

As good as it gets!

  • 5 of 5

This house is really wonderful! It really, truly looks exactly like it does in the photos. The owners have managed to make this home upscale and elegant, while still feeling casual and comfortable. This was our first trip to AMI (2 adults, 6 and 4 year olds) and we were really thrilled with our rental choice. We loved being on the quiet north end. We rented a golf cart which was perfect for getting us and our stuff to and from the beach (tip: there is no outlet outside to charge the cart, pull up next to the door, run the cord through the fence, use the cabana outlet). We used the public access on Newton Lane and had no issues with finding parking. This home is the perfect distance from some great places like Bean Point (park on Gladioulus, take the public path, be sure to look up at the palm tree with no top/a bunch of holes, a wild parrot lives there!), Pine Avenue, Two Scoops, Ginny and Jane E's, etc. We drove to Coquina Beach one day and it really reinforced how happy we were with our choice of he north end. In the home, you walk through the front/side door and you are standing in the foyer. There is a flight of stairs to your left and straight ahead is a door to the cabana area and pool. We loved being able to use the cabana, it's so much better than a garage! A word of caution, the floor is very slippery when you get out of the pool. Both of our kids slipped and fell, thankfully they thought it was funny and no harm done. :) Up the flight of stairs is the kitchen, bath (with washer/dryer) and family room. I was pleasantly surprised with how much the washing machine could hold. My only suggestion for the bathroom would be to add a hook somewhere to make it easier to dry multiple towels. The kitchen and family room are lovely. Lots of dishes and silverware. Up the next set of stairs are the 2 bedrooms and another full bath. I only mention the stairs because if you have mobility issues, it might be a problem to be up and down. The bedrooms are small but nice and the bathroom is beautiful. I wouldn't have been at all sad if the armoire in the master bedroom wanted to hop in my suitcase and come home with me. ;) My only complaint was that the bed in the second bedroom was extremely squeaky. My daughter and I slept in there and any time either of us moved slightly, it made a noise. I'm guessing something is loose in the frame. Overall, this is a wonderful home. You can tell the owners have put a lot of thought into it. We would definitely stay again!

Owner's Response: Allison, Thank you for taking the time in reviewing Whispering Winds. We really appreciate all the kind words about our home! Thanks for the tip to any of our future guests who rent golf carts, the golf cart rental place should always provide an extension cord. For guests that prefer to walk, the bay beach is directly across the street and Bean Point (gulf side) is a 10-minute stroll. We provide beach chairs and a beach cart for your convenience. It’s nice that you had a parrot sighting, they usually fly around in noisy little groups and a sight to behold! Thank you for letting us know about the squeaky bed, I’ll have someone go there to tighten up the frame. We will also look into putting more hooks in the bathrooms for the towels. We thought that having a cabana area near the pool would be better suited (and more fun) for guests than just a place to park a car and I’m glad that you agree. It’s such a relief to hear that you were able to laugh at your kids slipping, it brings back memories of all the little spills I took as a child. It’s an honor to be part of your first Anna Maria Island visit and we hope there are many more!
