About Mary Fallon

We have been vacationing in Leelanau County with our six children for over 20 years. After renting cottages in several different locations around the county, we discovered our perfect spot, Little Traverse Lake, 17 years ago. The calm and crowd-free water (shh! that's a secret!) enticed our watersport-loving family, and we've been hooked ever since. In addition to spending time on the lake, we love to bike and cross-country ski the nearby trails, hike the dunes, explore local restaurants and festivals, and take in the gorgeous sunsets. In the summer of 2006, we were fortunate to find a place of our own, The Yellow House. Here our family has enjoyed birthdays, holidays, family reunions, engagements, anniversaries, and much more, as each season brings new adventures on Little Traverse Lake.

Mary Fallon purchased this cottage in 2006

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

The Yellow House was perfect for the three generations of our family. The house is well equipped with everything you would need, but the special part is the lake side location. Every day has revolved around fishing, kayaking, swimming and s'mores! There is also lots to do in the area, with great walks and cycling. Leland was a favorite for us, which was bustling with interesting shops and plenty of quaint fishing spots.

Market 22 over the road was great for dinner and ice cream, as is the Traverse Inn which is walking distance and a great spot for dinner.

Dealing with Mary and Emily have made the whole process so easy, they are the perfect home owners and have been so friendly and helpful at every stage. We would all highly recommend this property and would love to return another time. Thank you!

Best furnished house we've ever stayed in. Owners have everything for everyday needs and lake extras

  • 5 of 5

Great house! Great location! Great communication by owners. Even without a/c we found the house to be very comfortable. The location to area towns and attractions makes it ideal. Able to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor, Empire and Leland multiple times each. The shallow water of Little Traverse allowed for swimming even though the outdoor temperature never was very warm. This area is absolutely beautiful!! The lakes are so blue and crystal clear. We are seriously considering a return trip. It's beauty without the sweltering beach heat or beach traffic.

Nice house, great location

  • 5 of 5

Nice clean house on a great lake. The location was great for trips to sleeping bear dunes and surrounding towns. It was also nice to hang out on the dock and paddle around on the provided kayaks and row boat. Owners were great to deal with.

Great House and even better location!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our family! It was clean and the beds were comfy. The kitchen was much larger than the pictures and fully stocked. We enjoyed swimming off the dock, kayaking and evenings around the bonfire. The Market 22 across the street had some of the best pizza we have ever had and the breakfast was outstanding! The location can't be beat! you can drive 10 minutes in either direction and be in Leland or Glen Arbor. The perfect Up north Michigan vacation.

Lovely and peaceful cottage on beautiful lake

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much at this cute and well-equipped cottage on a beautiful, peaceful and scenic spring-fed lake. The location is perfect - you're about a mile to Bohemian Road Beach on Lake Michigan (part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore), about 15 minutes to the very nice town of Leland, and 15-20 mins in the other direction to bustling Glen Arbor - both have markets, restaurants, sights, and shopping. (Across the street from the cottage is a very cute little market that makes good pizza and salads.) This is an amazingly bucolic and quaint part of the country - admittedly, we were there in late June, before the 'official' start of tourist season - but if you love Up North, it won't get much better than this. Farmers Markets in Glen Arbor, Lake Leelanau and Empire on various days for local produce and meats (we made pulled pork from local meat one day - fantastic). Kayaks and lifejackets were a nice plus as well - Little Traverse is calm and brisk and perfect for amateur kayaking.

The house is exactly as described and presented - neat, well- equipped, thoughtfully arranged. We were three adult couples and two teenagers and were quite comfortable - we had perfect weather, which made the large deck and lovely lawn overlooking LIttle Traverse Lake where we spent most of our time. Bedrooms were small but absolutely adequate. HOuse was well -ventilated - adjusting the windows meant always a nice breeze. Kitchen was above average for cottages - good stove and fridge, and a dishwasher, which was a plus. Very nice Weber gas grill on the deck. Plenty of outdoor chairs and a wonderful fire pit. (We spent more on campfire wood and s'mores ingredients than we did on anything else!) Adequate wi-fi. House and property were clean, in good repair and very well-supplied. Full bath was well-designed for a cottage. Half bath upstairs was small but functional.

In summary, we can't think of a thing we needed or that we would change, and we appreciated that the cottage was exactly as described. We would stay here again and would recommend it to others. We had a lovely stay and very much appreciated our time there.
