Beautiful country cottage 15 minutes from downtown Petaluma, and 45 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge. The cottage is 565 square feet with a queen size bed and one full bathroom including Carrera marble shower and slate tile floor. The cottage floor is re-purposed Douglas fir whose former life was a grain mill. The cottage is bright and sunny with a wrap around deck. There is a separate kitchen area with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, a gas fireplace, a 50' flat screen Samsung TV with hundreds of channels, free wifi enabled, HD DVD player, and a quiet area for reading and reflection. There is guest parking for one vehicle. We do have quiet hours from 10:00 PM until 7:00 AM. Our Tax number with Sonoma County is 1554N. The cottage is suitable for two people.
I am a retired licensed general contractor. My wife is also retired. We are both originally from Chicago, and moved out to Northern California back in the 70s. I enjoy baking bread in our pizza oven, hiking, pouring wine at a local winery, traveling and cooking. My wife is an artist who dabbles in oil painting, mosaics and ceramics. We both enjoy cooking, traveling and visiting the fantastic local Sonoma wineries and many excellent restaurants. We can offer lots of suggestions and recommendations for local attractions.
Tom Coleman purchased this cottage in 2007
The first time I saw this property, I fell in love with the views of the Sonoma hills. It reminded me of traveling and hiking through Ireland and England.
Seeing lots of stars at night. Watching the sun and the full moon come up. Fresh eggs from our chicken coop during the Spring and Summer. Harvesting fresh vegetables and fruit from our gardens. Sitting quietly in our peaceful rock garden or swinging in the hammock. Staring out at the views of the Sonoma mountains. Reading on the covered back deck. Making homemade pizzas in our wood fired pizza oven. Smelling the lavender in the summer and jasmine in the spring.
Tom and Carol could not have been sweeter or more accommodating to us. The cottage is warm and cozy and super cute, and my partner and I had a great time staying there. We got great recommendations from Carol about places to visit in downtown Petaluma and in Sonoma. The cottage was just a short drive/cab ride from the restaurants and shops in the business district of Petaluma, and Sonoma was about a 25-minute drive away.
As if all of that wasn't enough, Tom and Carol shared some of their wine with us, and provided us with a few eggs from their backyard chicken coop. They made for a great going-away breakfast on our last morning in the cottage.
My wife and I were looking for a place on the outskirts of Petaluma from which to conveniently access the vibrant downtown and explore rural, southwestern Sonoma County . We couldn't have chosen a more perfect spot. Carol welcomed us most hospitably, and we were instantly charmed by the cottage, inside and out. After breakfast each morning by the warm gas-lit fireplace, we headed out, often along quiet backroads, to explore the beautiful countryside, from Petaluma to Tomales, Valley Ford to Dillon Beach, Occidental to Bodega and all along Tomales Bay. The rain had recently turned the hillsides and pasture-lands into a sparkling green imitation Ireland. It was spectacular! Along the way we enjoyed lunch one day at Dinucci's in Valley Ford and the local history museum in old Tomales High School; but mostly, we just delighted in the beautiful scenery.
Another highlight was an afternoon in the town of Sonoma, where we took in a great photography exhibit at the Sonoma Valley Art Museum, window-shopped around the plaza, had a delicious, inexpensive lunch at Sunflower Cafe, and visited the historic mission. Our "souvenirs" included wine, a variety of local artisan cheeses and several fanciful and utilitarian gifts from the jam-packed and affordable kitchen-ware shop next-door to the Cafe.
In the late afternoons we came back to the cottage to relax, have a cup of coffee (everything we needed, was there for us), watch a bit of the World Series on the high-def tv, then head downtown ( about a 10 minute drive) for dinner. Our first night began with a glass of wine at McNear's - great fun - then an awesome dinner across the street at Central Market, where our four-course meal and the waitress who served it were 5-star! Night two was a birthday celebration nearby with our son and his family - also great, of course. Night three was a top-notch steak dinner at Seared, just up the block from Central Market. To round out a perfect three-day visit, we shopped on Kentucky Street, drove through the interesting old neighborhoods, and had lunch - yum - at Hallie's - like McNear's, a downtown Petaluma institution.
All-in-all, it was a great little getaway, and Tom and Carol's rental cottage was the perfect "home away from home". Thank you, Tom and Carol!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Tom and Carol were most welcoming and helpful with finding stores, wineries and the wonderful bread store on the way to the beach! The cottage in conveniently located close to the coast and also not far from the wineries either in Napa or Sonoma. It is also very quiet and peaceful and a nice place to unwind. We welcomed the use of the outside grill and all the amenities inside since we enjoy cooking. Would recommend the cottage to anyone and would come back to stay if in the wine country again.
I wanted to celebrate my birthday in Petaluma because I had read how beautiful and peaceful it is. Glad I did! I love the small town feel, the amazing food at various restaurants and café! And the friendly people! Tom and Carol were amazing host! I am so glad I stayed at their charming cottage. A clean and beautifully appointed cottage, comfortable bed and amazing scones to enjoy with coffee! Add a serene countryside and you have a perfect weekend getaway! I will be back soon! Thanks again, Tom and Carol!
I'm always a little skeptical about new places, but I was so very glad I booked the cottage. Tom and Carol were available when needed, but not at all intrusive. Very private and absolutely adorable. The cottage was beautiful and was fully outfitted. Close drive to many different places and lots of great places to eat in the area. I will definitely be back.
We were visiting from Ontario, Canada and Tom and Carol's cottage was the perfect escape! The location was perfect as it gave us the opportunity to tour the Redwoods, the Coast and the Wineries! Tom and Carol were the perfect hosts and Carol makes great scones!!! Thanks Carol. If you are considering this rental look no further. The cottage is absolutely sweet and actually exceeds the photos!! Wonderful Stay!!
