Little Gasparilla Beachfront Gem; Sleeps 6

Leave your car and your cares at the marina because Little Gasparilla is accessible only by water taxi! That means our beaches are uncrowded and tourists and traffic are just a mainland memory. If you are looking for a quiet tropical island to relax and unplug, Little Gasparilla is your dream vacation spot. Our "nightlife" consists of giant sea turtles laying their eggs -- our only bar is the sand bar where you can find sand dollars and shells!

Hibiscus House is a sparkling clean cottage in one of the most superb locations in Florida. It features fresh, beachy decor, dramatic Gulf views, bright, sunshine-filled rooms, a nearly deserted beach and it includes everything to make your beach vacation memorable.... satellite TV, wi-fi access, use of a dock slip, beach chairs, comfortable beds, a relaxing hammock plus one of the best equipped kitchens on the beach. While the island is relatively remote, access is easy via regular water taxi service and the beach is pristine and uncrowded. The home offers snorkeling gear, boogie boards, a beach umbrella, beach towels, toys and games. The master bedroom features a king size bed, the second bedroom offers a queen size bed and there is a sleeping loft with two twins and a double bed. There is also a downstairs outdoor shower and a spacious screened porch overlooking the Gulf. NOTE: We also offer concierge service to meet you at the dock and help transport your luggage and groceries to the house!

Unlike other homes set back on the island, Hibiscus House is situated right on the beach, for the best views and no long walks to the beach across hot sand. No partial 'peek-a-boo' view from this home....you can eat dinner overlooking the Gulf and the sound of the waves lulls you to sleep at night.

Little Gasparilla Island is very pet friendly and your canine companion is welcome as long as we are notified in advance. There is a $100 pet fee per pet. Our minimum rental period is normally one week; sorry, but we do not rent for weekends. Information on boat rentals and water taxi service is provided with your rental package.

Little Gasparilla Island is a nearly-deserted tropical island with no bridge, no roads and no commercial establishments. If peace and privacy are the hallmarks of a special beach vacation, you have found the right spot! Warm, shallow waters and balmy tropical breezes caress the island....sand pathways meander up and down the island for exploring by golf cart. (Golf cart rentals are available on the island.) You park your car at the mainland marina and take a delightful 15-minute water taxi ride right to our dock. It is best to do all your grocery shopping prior to catching the water taxi....then you don't have to leave the island at all! You can even bring your pets on the water taxi with you! While on the island, in addition to swimming you can snorkel, fish from the dock or the beach, bird watch, explore, collect shells, or simply read a good book in the hammock.

You must notify us if you wish to bring or rent a boat. New regulations enacted by the state of Florida limit boats to 24 ft. at our dock.

LITTLE GASPARILLA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...PLEASE READ!

• You cannot drive your car to the island and the only access is via water taxi; there is no vehicle ferry.

• You must park your car at the marina at the mainland but it will be perfectly safe there; parking is $6 a day.

• The water taxi is $10 per person each way and he will drop you right at our dock

• All homes come with a grill. Hibiscus House has a charcoal grill; please bring charcoal and lighter fluid with you.

• All homes come with beach chairs and an umbrella.

• You must bring all groceries to the island with you.

• There are no stores of any kind on the island, not even a convenience store.

• There is no need to bring drinking water; the water from the tap is safe and drinkable.

• There are first responders on the island and we have 911 service in case of an emergency.

• Golf carts are not necessary; the island is only 100-200 yards wide in most places and our concierge will meet you upon arrival to bring you to the house. But they are fun to go exploring.

• You can fish off the dock or the beach but non-Florida residents will need to purchase a fishing license.

• The beach is dog-friendly but dogs must be under your control, non-aggressive and most homes charge a pet fee.

INTERNET: There is no wired internet service on the island. There are a couple options for wifi. Most people just opt to use the mobile hotspots on their smartphones, especially if they have unlimited data or a large data plan. Cell service is excellent and that is the most convenient option...and it seems to work a bit faster. We can provide instructions on hot spotting if you are not familiar. If you do not have a smartphone, we provide a free Verizon jetpack BUT you have to purchase data AND YOU MUST REQUEST IT IN ADVANCE. You can either bring a Verizon card with you OR we can sell you one when we bring over the jetpack. You can buy as much data as you need, but it IS expensive....so we urge guests NOT to plan on using the jetpack for entertainment...no streaming music or videos, etc. It is more than adequate for checking emails, etc. and most people use about 2G of data per week which is $35. 5G is $60 and 10G is $100. (It is sort of like a cruise where you have to pay for the minutes you are on-line.) You just need to let us know in advance so we can make sure we have a fully charged jetpack available for you. If you bring a Verizon card with you, we can show you how to add the data. Or, we can pre-add data prior to your arrival but you have to let us know how much you think you will need. Just keep in mind that it is NOT the internet you are used to on the mainland, and anything that uses up a lot of data will increase your costs. (It is especially helpful to remind kids and teenagers who are used to umlimited data!) We usually suggest that people download books and movies to their tablets or e-readers BEFORE coming to the island.

About Little Gasparilla Vacation Rentals

We have lived on the island for 30 years and we started renting our own home many years ago when we traveled. Then our neighbors asked us to handle rentals for them also -- and now we offer vacation rentals in a variety of price ranges and locations on the island...from dramatic beachfront homes to cozy interior homes with lots of privacy. Our homes are painstakingly cared for...we want you to feel like you are vacationing in a friend's home rather than a sterile "rental unit". So relax, kick off your flip flops, dig your toes in the sand and enjoy the island lifestyle!

Why Little Gasparilla Vacation Rentals chose Placida

Hibiscus House has a fabulous upstairs sundeck that has lots of privacy and some of the best views on the island. It not only has a screened porch but an open-air porch for outdoor sunning. Inside, the home is beautifully appointed and has one of the most well-equipped kitchens you will find in a rental home. Guests love how comfortable it is, how well-stocked the home is, and its proximity to the beach.

This was a great place for our Fall Break. We loved the simplicity of the island, the weather was beautiful and the water the perfect temp. The home felt easy and comfortable, with everything you need for cooking and simply being. And, of course, beautiful sunsets at the end of every day. It was a scrapbook vacation. Thank you.

                                                              Exceeded our every expectation!

We had high expectations for an island getaway far from the maddening crowds of summer on the albeit beautiful but overrun beaches along Florida's Gulfcoast. LGI and Hibiscus House exceeded them all! We were concerned that the week before the 4th of July even LGI would be packed, but there seemed to be only a few other families on the island. The house was very comfortable and well stocked with most everything you may forget from condiments for meals to a great library with selections for every reader and a ton of board games and beach trappings for the family. Laurie did a great job of helping coordinate everything from boat and golf cart rental to the concierge to get our bags and groceries from the dock to the house. While the TV and internet access is a plus, we didn't use them or miss them the entire time we were there (not even the kids)! Nothing but lovely long walks, finding tons of sharks teeth and beautiful shells, swimming with manatees and dolphins (yes, literally swimming with them in the Gulf), encountering a sea turtle looking for the perfect spot to nest on the beach in Don Pedro State Park, napping, eating, swimming, gorgeous sunrises from the dock on Placida Harbor (literally with silhouettes of dolphins breaching the surface in the channel -- postcard perfect) and even more stunning sunsets from the porch and beach out across the Gulf (one evening after a 10- min. afternoon thunderstorm there was a double rainbow at the southern tip of the island while the sun sank into the Gulf -- truly fantastic). Really I don't think it couldn't have been a more perfect family vacation. We are definitely planning on going back. A week was not long enough, but it was truly the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation we have had as a family in a long, long time. Believe what the literature and the comments say, you don't need to bring a lot of stuff.. literally t-shirt and shorts (to lounge around the house and take walks), and your swimsuits, bug deterrent of some sort if you plan on spending anytime inland or on the dock side (less breeze=more mosquitoes -- not too bad on gulf side due to seabreeze), sunscreen and groceries. The beauty of this island, house and vacation is that less really is so much more. Not having any place to be or schedule to follow other than the sun, the moon and the nature around you allows you to disconnect from work and daily obligations in order to finally relax and reconnect with what is truly important. THANK YOU!

We had the best family vacation ever at Hibiscus House! It seemed like it would be tough to fly in with kids, Uber to Placida, grab groceries at the Publix and get on a water taxi to get to the island, but it really wasn't. We had planned to arrive in the afternoon, but our flight was delayed. We arrived at Eldrid's Marina as the sun was setting, but we were able to get in touch with Pirate's Water Taxi and Brett, the LGI concierge. Everyone waiting for us, and it worked out great. Our water taxi guys were friendly and helpful, and Brett is great and will help you load and unload everything into his golf cart and then into your rental house. When we arrived at Hibiscus House, the owners had turned on the lights and the AC for us and had lovely jazz music waiting to set the scene. Because we arrived at night, we were not able to get all of our provisions upon arrival, but that wasn't a bad thing. We had fun grabbing the water taxi to go back to the mainland and load up again. Hibiscus House is beautiful, comfortable (the master bed, couch and kitchen chairs were all really comfortable) and very, very clean. They have a ton of staples, so don't overpack. The pantry was stocked with cooking oils, vinegars, lots of spices, some canned goods, pasta, rice and beans. It was like staying with friends. They have every imaginable pot, pan, storage container and cooking utensil you could possibly need. They also have lots of beach towels, bath towels, beach toys, beach chairs and even left over sunscreen and aloe vera (just in case you get a little too much sun). The loft had lots of kid toys and books--our 11 and 4 year olds were thrilled. During our stay we had a mix of absolutely clear skies and beautiful weather, combined with some seriously stormy weather. It was all beautiful. After the storm, we went down to the beach to find amazing shells. During the sunny weather, we all played in the calm gulf waters. There are no crowds on the beach--it was unreal and serene. Everyone we met on the island was welcoming and kind. We especially loved our visits with the owners' dog, Iris, who came to say hi, and Samantha, the island Newf. I can't say enough about the island and Hibiscus House. We can't wait to go back! Here's what you should bring--bug spray, sunscreen, t-shirts, shorts, a swim suit, a sweatshirt and a good book. Also, if you need to have some availability to work remotely, bring a hot spot. We did, and it worked great.

                                                              Go and unwind :)

                                                              PERFECT Vacation!

My husband and I have been privileged to travel around the world and this was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had! Laurie was fabulous to work with and Hibiscus House was everything we could have wanted! Our favorite feature: the sliders that open the entire house to the beach . . . sitting at the dining room table each morning was like eating directly on the sand . . . because there was absolutely nothing obstructing our view. We ate dinner every night (after cooking in the well-equipped kitchen) on the screened porch with a perfect view of the spectacular sunset . . . but none of the hassles of bugs. Again, perfection! LGI is quiet and tranquil with great shelling and swimming. The house was comfortable and inviting . . . we are already planning our return trip!

Beautiful sunsets, getting out with the kayaks allows you to be with many dolphins for hours. Perfect place to relax and just simply enjoy life.

Laurie was great and responds to any question you might have immediately.
