About Bob Jones
Bob Jones and Doris Groves love their lifestyle of living on a small, plant based farm, with their animals (three cats) and trying to be more self reliant - heating with their own firewood, using their own water and growing as much of their own food as possible.
Why Bob Jones chose Brooksville
Doris has lived on the farm for 30 years and raised her children there. The core of the original farmhouse dates back to 1850 and was a rough hewn cabin hauled from a nearby pond. Bob joined her in 2012 and together they have renovated buildings, built new structures and expanded the vegetable gardens and small orchard. Brooksville is a very special place. There are beautiful woods, rolling hills, farms and a nice mix of long term residents and summer folks.
What makes this Apartment unique
Picture yourself relaxing and reading in a hammock or lounge chair in the afternoon sun or shade by the pond serenaded by frogs and songbirds. Or walking on our back woods trails where you can look for chanterell mushrooms and listen for hermit thrushes and pilliated woodpeckers. Or taking a leisurely bike ride along the country roads. (We can usually provide bikes) Guests report enjoying nature sounds at night including owls, frogs and coyotes. Or enjoy a visit to Forest Farm (20 minute drive), last homestead of Helen and Scott Nearing, key individuals in the back to the land movement in the 1960's. Take a tour there and enjoy Monday night speakers in July and August. We also make suggestions regarding good local restaurants, best food shopping, secret beaches, places to go and things to do in this area. We also provide trail maps and guidebooks to Acadia

Beautiful, peaceful place.
Had a wonderful time here. The property is very beautiful with many trails to walk on. Very kind and helpful owners who are there to make sure your stay is perfect :)
Very enjoyable stay
We had a very nice stay at the property. The accomodations were clean and the owners were friendly and welcoming. We would certainly stay here again.
Sweet Dog Farm was perfect for us. Charming, well equipped, quiet. Our hosts were helpful and never intrusive. A perfect place to launch day trips around the Blue Hill peninsula. We will return.
Quiet, cozy, country
This is a beautiful location to unplug. Relax and unwind. Everything we needed was there, plus lots of great references for area activities. Close by Acadia, without the crowds. Thanks for such a great stay!
Idyllic wilderness gat-away
despite the initial rustic look of this property, it is as polished as any other more sophisticated accommodation in terms of comfort, cleanliness and service. Highly recommend as an option for anyone travelling in this beautiful part of the USA.
Thanks for your comments Pam.
We hope you will return
cozy cottage, great hosts, good place for dogs
This is a nice, comfortable cottage. Bob and Doris were very welcoming and helpful. The woods behind the cottage are great for morning walks with your dog. It is located in a quiet section of coastal Maine, with great kayaking many places nearby. We split our time between local areas nearby and Acadia, which is within a reasonable drive.
Acadia National Park is a one hour drive. Other day trip destinations include Deer Isle/Stonington, Castine, and
The Good Life Center.
