About Bob Jones
Bob Jones and Doris Groves love the lifestyle of living on a small, plant based farm, with their animals (cat and dog) and trying to be more self reliant -heating with their own firewood, using their own water and growing as much of their own food as possible.
Bob Jones purchased this Apartment in 1986
Why Bob Jones chose Brooksville
Doris has lived on the farm for 30 years and raised her children there. The core of the original farmhouse dates back to 1850 and was a rough hewn cabin hauled from a nearby pond. Bob Joined her in 2012 and together they have renovated buildings, built new structures and expanded the vegetable gardens and small orchard. Brooksville is a very special place. There are beautiful woods, rolling hills, farms and a nice mix of long term residents and summer folks.
What makes this Apartment unique
Picture yourself relaxing and reading in a hammock in the afternoon sun by the pond serenaded by frogs and songbirds. Or kayaking on the nearby Bagaduce River where you will see loons, cormorants, eagles, ospreys and fur seals.(We may be able to supply two kayaks) Or walking on our back woods trails where you can look for chanterell mushrooms and listen for great horned owls, hermit thrushes and pilliated woodpeckers. Or taking a leisurely bike ride along the country roads. (We can provide bikes) Or enjoy a visit to Forest Farm (20 minute drive), last homestead of Helen and Scott Nearing, key individuals in the back to the land movement in the 1960's. Take a tour there and enjoy Monday night speakers in July and August.

Verry nice couple at Doggy Farm. Accommodation very good and quiet. Kitchen well equipped.
Everyone who would like forget "normal" live should come to this place. Bob is in addition a very good tour guide in giving hints what are the perfect tours in Acadia. We would come again, only disadvatage, we life soooo far away (Germany).
A great little place
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the farm. It's quiet, comfortable and much better than a sterile hotel room! There was even coffee and tea there for us in the morning! Your kitchen and bathroom (shower only) are downstairs and the sleeping area upstairs which worked great. Our hosts were wonderful and made great suggestions too. While it's a drive to the park, you can do other things in this area that are equally enjoyable. We had a great hike up Blue Hill mountain just minutes away, and Castine and other lookouts are very close!
Cozy Garden Hideaway
We had such a wonderful stay with our great hosts: Doris and Bob at Sweet Dog Farm. The second story bedroom had plenty of windows it felt like our own personal tree house! The Kitchen had all the pots and pans we needed and even some coffee and creamer for our fist morning. There is a nice little deck to enjoy the view of the pretty gardens as well, which made for a great breakfast spot. We'd happily return if we are lucky enough to be back in the area next year! Many thanks!

Tranquil location off the beaten path
My wife and I had the privilege of spending 2 nights here in the middle of August. We slept away the nights peacefully as it is a quiet location which is exactly what we were looking for. It is only about 45 minutes away from Acadia National Park which was the initial reason why we selected this property.
One of the owners, Bob, was always out in the gardens (it is a working vegan farm) and always took time to have a chat with you - even providing some sage gardening advice.
My wife and I highly recommend this rental property if the nightly sounds of nature and a good night's sleep is what you require. There is also a hammock in the back of the property near the pond if you so choose.
We will definitely be back when we venture back to the Acadia National Park - which by the way, is absolutely gorgeous!
Say hi to Bob and Doris for us if you chose to stay. You won't regret it.
Thanks for staying with us.
I really enjoyed our chats in the garden.
We hope to see you on your next trip this way.
Beautiful property in a beautiful part of the country!
We loved our time at Sweet Dog Farm. Bob & Doris were wonderful hosts and the apartment was fantastic. It was very clean and comfortable to stay in. They were very welcoming and provided us with information about the area, as well as Acadia National Park. It was an easy drive to Acadia, as well. We're already looking forward to our next trip back here!
Thanks for the review Mike and Sarah. I enjoyed hearing about your adventure hiking up Beech Cliff. I hope you come back.
Genuine welcome, lovely ambience!
Bob and Doris were wonderfully welcoming hosts, when we arrived after dark and just a little overwhelmed by the scenery we'd been seeing and weariness of a long day's journey. Our visiting time with them left us feeling they were friends who we just hadn't happen to meet before this. Our accommodation was simply beautiful, and the surrounding peaceful quiet was soothing after the hassles of travel and the business of Boston the few days before. The next day, Sweet Dog Farm made a perfect jumping off place for exploring the nearby area.
Acadia National Park is a one hour drive
