Beautiful water front cottage on Little Traverse Lake!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great time staying here. Little Traverse Lake is gorgeous. Both nights we sat around a fire and watched some amazing sunsets. The house and amenities are really nice and there is a lot of cool stuff in the house. Nice flat screen TVs and the couches and chairs were comfy. The grill worked great and the cover over it was a nice touch. We would recommend this place to anyone! The owners were great to work with too.

Grand Rapids, Mi

Great place, great location.

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at the Lake House twice....once during summer, and again in fall. It is wonderful. We had the whole family during our summer week (6 adults, 2 children) and just 2 couples for our fall weekend. Either way, it worked perfectly for the two groups. It is halfway between Leland and Glen Arbor (less than 10 minutes to each) and all the fun dining and shopping in these quaint towns. The Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City are very close by as well. There is no shortage of great things to do and see. You'll find yourself wanting more.

We decided to do a girls weekend her and had a great time!! The view is incredible! It had plenty of room for all of us! I love the convince of the market 22 across the street. We drove to Traverse on Saturday which was only a half hour away and it was a beautiful drive! We had dinner in Glen Arbor, went to the distillary, did some wine tasting etc.. We made a fire in the wood fireplace which was a great end to a very fun day!!

All About the Girls

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to stay in this fantastic cabin for our annual Girls Only shopping trip to Traverse City and it was positively wonderful! The view of the lake every morning and the crackling fireplace every night is enough to keep you coming back! So relaxing and peaceful no matter what season of the year. I will continue to go back whenever I can!!! It's a place for people of all ages. I highly recommend this great cabin!!

Perfect family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Lake House this summer and have to say it was the BEST vacation we have ever taken! We have been renting a cottage with our family and my sister and her family for the last 8 years. This year, we decided to change locations and stayed at The Lake House. What a great change it turned out to be! The house was absolutely perfect for our two families! The house was impeccably clean and had everything we could have possibly needed to cook a feast for our large group. There were even spices and coffee in the cupboard when we arrived. The owners were so incredibly accommodating when we called with a few questions regarding the house. They made sure all of our expectations were met. The sandy beach area in front of the house was perfect for the kids. We cooked out at the grill while the kids played in the sand and swam in the lake. It was almost surreal watching the breathtaking sunset over the lake as we sipped wine on the deck in the evenings. We can't wait to visit again next year!

Good location, but...

  • 2 of 5

First, we had a great time, but it was because of the people, not the property. Although the pictures adequately show the property as an "up north cabin with character," it's what you don't see in the pictures that is a problem. There is a sandy area for the kids to play but it is separated from the water by a seawall, so there is no beach. Swimming was off the dock and although the kids didn't mind, it was a little trickier to watch them than had they been able to swim from shore. The sandy area is also fairly narrow which made it nerve racking to have a toddler play so close to the drop-off into the water. However, the 2 main issues we had which caused me to give this only 2 stars:

• NEEDS A GOOD THOROUGH DEEP CLEANING. There were huge cobwebs hanging in the kitchen and there was a large cobweb filled with insects in the corner of the master bedroom. The bedroom fans had dozens of 1/2 inch dust bunnies hanging from the blades and cover screen. The curtains were thick with dust and cobwebs. The "white" leather couches in the living area were so disgustingly filthy that we kept them covered with blankets and sheets all week. I pulled the cushions off the couches when we were leaving to check for missing toys and the smell just about knocked me over and the treasure of old food (not anything that we brought) that I found was quite colorful. The living room and master bedroom are carpeted but are covered with throw rugs. The throw rugs were there to cover-up the disgustingly dirty and stained carpet....made me wonder if the rugs had ever been cleaned!

• NEEDS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP. The oven does not work, you are stuck using a 1980's toaster oven for both baking and toast (no toaster) -- hard to bake a pizza in a toaster oven; pots, pans and serving dishes were a hit and miss adventure (only one large mixing/serving bowl); only 2 wash clothes for the 2 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms; the shed which stores some of the outdoor equipment and toys smells so strongly of rodent urine that it makes your eyes water; screens on both the side door and the sliding patio door had large rips; sliding patio door fell off the track daily; the screws actually pulled out of the side door and it was hanging by a single hinge (we repaired).

All and all, it would have been fine if it were just clean and well-maintained. The kicker to the story is that the owners never returned my security deposit check and I had to put a "stop payment" on the check.

Owner's Response: This renter never called and discussed any of these issues during their stay. We are very accommodating and always strive to make every renter happy, as you can see from every other review. It is impossible to fix something when you are unaware that it is broken. Since there is a very limited time between renters throughout the summer, we strive to do our best to keep up with repairs when we are told of them. SEAWALL: We fully disclose the fact that there is a seawall between the sand and the water. The picture on our site, not only shows the seawall, but also shows the width of the sandy area. We have never tried to mislead a guest to the amount of sandy area provided. We do a very thorough spring clean each year, which includes the carpets, rugs, curtains, etc. We obviously do not have time to wash the curtains each week between renters, but find it hard to believe there would be thick dust accumulated since spring. We also can not re-carpet a room between renters when a stain occurs, and therefore, have added NEW, CLEAN throw rugs if stains occur during the season. The "white" couches have never been white. They are taupe, leather couches. There is no "toy shed". There is a shed at the house that stores some tools and lawn supplies for owner use. The oven is fully functional and working. There is a toggle switch that sometimes gets switched off, inadvertently by the renter, however, had we received any mention of this during the stay, it could have been immediately resolved. There is also a toaster on site that is located in one of the kitchen cupboards instead of on the counter. By the end of our season, screens do tend to get ripped and the sliding door gets abused. We get them repaired when we are made aware of them. The security deposit was mailed back. Had we been informed that it was not received, we would have been more than happy to pay the stop payment fee to their bank. However, we were never informed of it. Overall, we received no phone calls or requests from this renter throughout the week. We do our best to keep our guests happy as you can see from our other reviews.
