Enjoy a one bedroom beach bungalow a 20-second walk from Southern California's best beach. This is a white sand beach with volleyball, surfing, amazing sunsets, and lifeguards. Good sized room (10'x11.5') with queen sized bed, 32 inch Samsung Smart TV (already logged-in to Netflix and Amazon Prime), alarm clock, night stand with light, fans (rarely needed), ample closet space, and dresser drawers. One bathroom with towels provided. Living room with 50 inch Samsung HD Smart TV screen (already signed-in on Netflix and Amazon Prime) and free fast WiFi. Fully equipped kitchen- blender, toaster, microwave over, silverware, plates, bowls, glasses, cups, and refrigerator. Washer and dryer, if needed. Fun small patio including BBQ and cocktail table. Boogie boards, learner foam surfboard, beach towels, cooler, beach umbrella, 2 kayaks, frisbees and other beach toys. Off-street parking! Bungalow is limited to two occupants, sometimes an additional kid is allowed but this must be agreed to before the reservation is finalized. I will be nearby and will check that there are not additional people staying at the house. Additional occupants than as agreed on will cause immediate expulsion without refund of any money.

Pretty on the outside, dirty on the inside

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY AS IT IS, PLEASE READ.

The house was cluttered and dirty when we arrived, unlike the clean pictures from the listing. One of the set of locks didn't work at all and all the deadbolts are very hard to align with the key and need to be replaced. There were cobwebs inside the house that had to have been there for months. There was no space inside the kitchen cabinets for anything we brought. The bed is held up on top of cinder blocks. The bathroom shower curtain had mold on it. The carpet is separated from the floor and filthy. All of these problems are easily visible, I didn't need to look hard at all. The owner Jeffrey showed up unannounced in the afternoon and began to water his plants while my wife and I were cuddling. We told him all the problems we had and he said a discount could be offered and he left it at that. On the day of checkout we left the place in nearly better condition than we found it. I put his hide a key back where it belonged and left my car parked there while we grabbed lunch across the street. Jeffrey proceeds to freak out that we're still there, when we weren't. Later I try to get a 40% discount due to the poor condition of the house. He says he cant do it, starts giving me lame excuses about how hard it is to clean his house and rudely accuses me of extortion and that his lawyer friend agrees with him. I sent him pictures of every single thing that I listed earlier and he just acts as if i made it all up and telling me how lucky i am to find such a great deal for his property. VRBO will do nothing about it and I never got that discount that he lied to my wife and I about.

2 stars are for the location and proximity to the beach.

I have never given anything such a bad review.

I have never received worse customer service in my life as I did with this experience.

Just clean your house and take care of the property like a business should and this could have been a 5 star review!

Owner's Response: My house is booked either just the guest room or the whole house as with VRBO all summer long and more than half of my bookings are repeat guests or friends of repeat guests. My place is the cheapest in the neighborhood and half the price of a comparable house of the same age and condition 3 doors down from me that is also booked all summer. I think the titles of the VRBO review before yours and the two after are more indicative of how people usually feel about my place… Del Mar's best kept secret! Iconic North County Beach Cottage. The perfect Del Mar bungalow. Despite being the cheapest place in the neighborhood, you asked for a significant discount before you booked and demanded one after you got here. I had every intention to give it to you because I really just want people to be happy. I offered you 35% off but felt coerced when you demanded significantly more. It takes at least 3 hours to give the house a good hotel style cleaning and 7 hours to give it a deep clean. But, every guest almost without fail wants to check-in early and leave late… just like you did. I explained this to you before you arrived, when you requested an early check-in. This is why I was “freaking out” when you had not checked-out on time. So, I texted you but you did not reply. I had no idea if you were inside or not, and my next guests were already wanting to check-in! I have to water my yard every few days and try to do this when guest are gone, but I never enter the house. The fridge is empty except for some soft drinks, water, beers, and condiments for guests use, most guests appreciate this. I had an empty shelf above the coffeemaker for guests but no one ever used it... ever. So, I filled it with tea, sugar, and essentials that guests do use. But, I will empty out another shelf for future guests. I work my tail off to make sure that my house is clean, but it is never going to be pristine and no one should come here wearing white gloves. This has worked extremely well for the vast majority of my guest so far. Still, I appreciate your input and I will be adjusting things here to even better accommodate guests in the future.

The perfect Del Mar bungalow.

Iconic North County Beach Cottage.

Walk to the beach,or the track,or to several excellent restaurants..what's not to like here? The cottage has everything you need if you'd rather stay home too. Jeffery the host is a world class charmer and knows all the local angles. You can't do better than this.

Del Mar Vacation

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at my place. Due to my price being half or less similar properties in the Del Mar Beach Colony, this causes it to be booked back-to-back all summer long. Add that my guests almost always ask to come early and leave late like in your situation, which I don't charge extra for and I always try to accommodate. The people coming in right after you wanted to get into the house before you even left. This leaves only time for a basic clean, similar to a hotel, but not enough time for a deep clean on a 1,000 square foot house like I want to do. I appreciate your input and I plan to replace my carpets this week (the first opportunity in three months) and do other improvements. I always strive to do better, and I will see how I can do better in situations like yours. I want every guest to have a fantastic and affordable stay.

Del Mar's best kept secret

It actually doesn't get better than Jeffrey's beach house. Centrally located in northern SD, this place is a barefoot walk to the beach and 5 minute drive to dozens of good restaurants, local points of interest, and adventure activities. Jeffrey is a gracious and friendly host, allowing guests to use his beach supplies and is very easy to communicate with. He also provides other basics such as toiletries and kitchen supplies. I would specifically reccomend booking with Jeffrey for the ultimate northern SD experience. You will thank yourself, I promise!
