About Nathan Cron

My partner and I, Jesus, moved from San Francisco to buy this home brand new in 2014. We are so grateful to have this home and proud to use it to host guests from around the world.

After visiting the big island in 2012 we decided to make the move from San Francisco to Hawaii Island (The Big Island). Although we had been to Hawaii many times previously, it was during that trip in 2012 we discovered that this little piece of paradise could be our home. No, we aren't retired, and we still work a full week running our business on the mainland. However, since moving here, the days don't seem as long and breathing seems so much easier.

Nathan Cron purchased this house in 2015

Suited our needs just fine

  • 4 of 5

Nathan was great to work with and was prompt in answering my questions beforehand as well as attending to a couple of needs we had during our stay. There were 8 of us and we slept comfortably. My parents stayed in the Ohana house, two of my boys shared a bedroom, another son had the bedroom and our young daughter slept on top of the hide-a-bed in the loft were we slept. Unfortunately, the previous guest apparently broke the small hide-a-bed so she wasn't able to sleep on it unfolded but she was small enough to just sleep on the sofa. We were pleased to find some seasonings, a little cooking oil, even some condiments in the frig, and plenty of kitchen things to make our meals. One thing we were missing was a wire whisk but that was minor. We had a little trouble with the keypad entry working properly but were able to find a house key inside to use too, when the keypad didn't let us in like we thought it should. It was fairly cool during our stay and the housekeeper had forgotten to leave bedding for the hide-a-beds but an email to Nathan and the housekeeper brought over plenty of bedding for the rest of our stay. Overall, we were pleased with this property and the accommodations.

Lovely and secluded

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed an extended family reunion with our adult children, their significant others, and our two grandchildren. Directions were clear and the house rules reasonable. The house was clean and the property well maintained. The shower in the Ohana house lacks adequate hot water and water tends to run across the floor. The bedrooms need dressers: we lived out of suitcases on the floor. The grill was rusted out, but when I brought it to Nathan's attention it was replaced right away. The deck is a wonderful place to sit, read, watch geckos, and enjoy the rainforest sights and sounds. This property is a very good value, and reasonably close to a beach, warm pond, tide pools, and the Kalapana lava flow. I would stay there again.

Beautiful Hawaiian Home

  • 5 of 5

Our large group enjoyed this well-appointed, spacious home. Thoughtful touches can be found throughout and while the house is an old Hawaiian home, it has modern touches that make your stay extremely enjoyable. We loved walking in to the sound of Hawaiian music and seeing the beautiful original wood floors. Many fans are provided to move the tropical air throughout the house, the lush landscaping draws you out onto the lanais and our 7-months-pregnant friend enjoyed the quiet and privacy of the the ohana. We'd recommend this home to anyone wanting to stay close to town but also in the thick of the jungle.

More than I expected!

  • 5 of 5

I was kinda worried that rental was out in the country but it worked out to our advantage! House was beautiful clean and quiet! Beds were pillowy soft. Just right for a Hawaiian vacation'! We were close to warm ponds, fish sanctuary, kalapana easy drive to volcano. Awesome place for the price!

Kipuka House

  • 3 of 5

Our stay at the kipuka house was ok. We arrived later in the evening and the instructions that were given were accurate and easy to follow. The house was well lit and inviting upon arrival.

The house is in a very nice quiet and private area but is a fair drive away from most activities that were of interest to our family.

As a family of 5 there was ample room for everyone to sleep. However we did find that the house was not as equipped as one would expect and was disappointed by the lack of outdoor seating area ie: no table or side tables which limited outdoor meals.

I found that the kipuka property was overall a good value for the price.

Great stay, great location!

  • 4 of 5

Lots of character! Would highly recommend for any family, or large group. Great location on the Hilo side. Very close to the Kapoho Tide Pools, and an easy drive to the Volcano National Park and the amazing Black Sand Beach.

The house is very open and had an older plantation style feel to it.

Home owner was very flexible, easy to work with, and constantly communicated with us!
