About Kim Meyer
Kim, who is from New Orleans, Louisiana, has been a frequent visitor to Gatlinburg since early childhood. After experiencing the beauty of the mountains, views, waterfalls and all of the activities offered in the area, she knew she wanted to have a vacation home here. When the cabin became available, she convinced her husband, John, who is from Lafayette, Louisiana, to buy and renovate it. Black Bear Ridge was born and for the past ten years has been upgraded and kept in pristine condition. Our cabin had been with a rental company but we decided to change to VRBO. We hope you give us a chance to introduce you to a true mountain experience.
Kim Meyer purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why Kim Meyer chose Chalet Village
Once you come to Gatlinburg, you will know why we chose this area; the friendly people, entertainment, which includes all of the amenities located in both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, outdoor activities, shopping and wonderful dining. Some of these amenities include Dollywood, Splash Country water park, the aquarium, Titanic, The Island, which includes unique shops, dining and a 200 foot ferris wheel. The dining includes a vast array of restaurants such as The Park, Cherokee Grill, Smoky Mountain Brewery and No Way Jose's. The activities include hiking in the Smokies, ice skating ( year round), skiing, white water rafting, tubing, zip lining, shopping in the arts and crafts community where local artisans create and sell their crafts. For the nonhiker, the Motor Nature Trail is an option for those wanting to view the Smokies from the comfort of their vehicle, which is located at traffic light number 8, Airport Road.

Perfect area! Close to Gatlinburg and very quiet.
We loved mornings and evenings on the deck. The kitchen had ample supplies to do just about anything!! The only negative thing we could say was for some reason, the clothes washer only used hot water. All my clothes came out hot and wrinkled. But everything else was wonderful!! We will be back!
Amazing cabin, scary driveway
Loved the cabin, was a perfect stay for our honeymoon, will definitely come back
Cozy, clean and a romantic cabin overlooking the mountains! Very nice place for a couples getaway!
Perfect place to unwind! Clean, comfortable with a nice fireplace! Feels like home. Nice porch to enjoy your morning coffee.
Nice 1 bedroom get away. Clean. Convenient. Secluded. Owner was responsive to questions.
Nice area. House could use some TLC
We stayed at this cabin over New Years 2018. The location is excellent with easy driving access to numerous hiking and viewing spots in the Smoky Mountains. We were 10-12 minutes from Gatlinburg and maybe 15 from Pigeon Forge. The cabin sits in a relatively quiet area which was nice. The driveway leading up is steep but we had no problems driving up even with snow and a bit of ice. My wife and I have rented cabins all over the country for a number of years. Neither of us expect the Ritz Carlton and in fact we like the rustic charm of a cabin in the woods. Mouse droppings in the kitchen drawers...maybe we could live with. After all we were in the woods. Sort of. The stove had two burners. One of them wasn't working. While we appreciated the sign on the stove informing us that 1/2 the burners weren't operational, we would have appreciated it more had this been fixed. This cabin comes with utensils and pots and pans to cook with. Again, we didn't expect gourmet cookware, but the dented, worn items supplied, made us both sort of roll our eyes and smile. All of these little details can add up and often make the difference between fair and good or even good to great. If this had been our only challenges I would have given this place 3-4 stars. But then there was the heater. For the first few days it was able to keep the cabin at 66 degrees but on the last day before we left (which was New Years Day), it stopped working altogether. This meant on the morning of our departure (Jan 2) the temperature in the cabin was 48 degrees. I called the owners on that day to let them know about this but never got a return call. So in closing, I do not think it unreasonable to expect a fully functional heating system in the middle of winter or stoves that are operational. If the owners actually make these repairs and perhaps consider a modest upgrade in the kitchen supplies they make available for guests, this property would be well worth the price.
Steven & Shelley,
First of all, we would like to thank you for choosing Black Bear Ridge. Regarding your review of our cabin, we would like to state the following:
Concerning the mouse droppings, the weather was extremely cold when you were there. You are in the woods and mice will, unfortunately, seek out the warmest place and Gatlinburg has experienced an unusually frigid winter. We have addressed this issue and there have been no further problems. Looks like the mice won that weekend.
Concerning the stove, we had attempted to locate a burner with no success and therefore have purchased a new stove.
Concerning the kitchen utensils, no one else has made us aware of dented or worn items.
Lastly, it was very unfortunate that the heat pump failed, however, it's impossible to address an issue that we aren't made aware of until the day you left. Once we were made aware of this problem it was repaired in three hours, which is how we operate Black Bear Ridge and thus have a repetitive and loyal following.
We hope you choose Black Bear Ridge in the future.

The cabin was beautiful!! Very cozy...driveway is very steep.
We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time! The cabin was absolutely perfect for a couple. We enjoyed the hot tub and the pool table. The bed was very comfortable. The cabin is just far enough out to be secluded yet very close to the town of Gatlinburg. The owner was perfect to work with and responded very quickly to any questions that I had. I would definitely recommend this cabin and we would definitely stay there again.
Being next to the Smoky Mountain National Park affords one the opportunity to hike, enjoy the views from your car, see nature at its finest and take spectacular photos to enjoy for years to come. The entertainment is endless: World Class Exhibits such as Titanic, the aquarium and Dollywood and many others. Dining experiences range from the very casual to fine dining. For those who enjoy shopping, there is something for everyone.
