LOCATION:
The Truckee River House is a riverfront retreat on the Truckee River, a blue ribbon fishery, and has a beautiful view of the river and mountains. The river is about 100 yards from the house. In addition, there are several other nice rivers and lakes nearby within 10 miles. The house is about 8 miles from Historic old town Truckee, 20 miles to the best Tahoe ski resorts, and many beautiful natural places including Donner Lake, Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe National Forest. The City of Reno and the Reno International Airport are just 30 miles away.

DESCRIPTION:
The Truckee River House is a cozy river front home with beautiful sweeping views of the Truckee River and mountains. A hidden gem in a small, secluded, and serene neighborhood. Recent modern mountain renovations and furnishings mix with vintage historic finishes from the 1890's and other renovations to create a playful mix of modern and rustic mountain style. The structure and systems have all been updated and the house is fully equipped with modern conveniences, just relax and enjoy the mountains.

FISHING YEAR ROUND
Here you will find some of the best fishing water that the Truckee River has to offer, and the river is literally right in the back of the house! Access the river at any public bridge (Hirschdale bridge is 100 yards from the house), from access points along the Tahoe Pyramid Trail which parallels the river from Lake Tahoe all the way to Pyramid Lake in Reno, or at the California Conservancy lands and other public access points (access maps available at fishing shops & online). Water access at the bridge is a five minute walk from the house - the bridge can be seen from the house. From the bridge, a short and steep dirt trail must be navigated to reach the river. There are other access points nearby with easier access. The Truckee River can be fished year round! There are also several other great fisheries nearby. Fly fishing, Skiing, Paddling, Swimming, Biking, Hiking, Climbing, Adventure, Peace, Nature, and more, all right outside the door, a true nature lovers paradise!

UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS: New floors and mattresses, upstairs sleeps 8 people in beds. 3 Bedrooms: one king and two queens, plus twin bunk beds. 2 Bathrooms: whirlpool bath and shower in master bedroom, shower in guest bathroom. This level is perfect for 3 couples, or a romantic spacious getaway for two. This house is ideal for families with kids, and group retreats.

Full gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops, all modern stainless steel appliances including: gas 5 burner stove top with griddle, dishwasher, side by side refrigerator, double oven, and microwave. Lots of pots and pans, cooking utensils, and small appliances such as toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder, mixer, blender, slow cooker, and more...

UPSTAIRS DEN: new floors, original rock fireplace and vintage natural wood beadboard walls from the 1890's, comfortable leather seating, work desk with chair.

UPSTAIRS DECK: a large deck facing the river with amazing views of the river and mountains. There are two dining tables providing seating for 10, plus 4 lounge chairs and a new Weber propane grill (propane is provided). The dining area is covered by shade sails in the summer. The deck is gated in 2 places - good for keeping small children and dogs contained. Because the house is built into the hillside, the back deck is on the 2nd story with great views and stairs down to the back yard.

FRONT ENTRY HALL:
New remodel with metal and glass door, skylight, oak live edge bench, tile floors, plenty of room to move, hooks and storage for gear, and some of the original vintage 120 year old wood beadboard walls saved for their charm and history.

FRONT YARD: Heated concrete steps from the driveway to the front door so you don't have to shovel snow. Covered metal grate bridge, and covered patio with seating and firewood storage. Moss covered granite boulders and native plants are spread through the natural landscape. Chunky wood post and beam construction with concrete and metal work update this attractive new addition.

DOWNSTAIRS LEVEL - Recent remodel with a modern mountain mixed with mountain rustic style. New stair and metal railing from the upper level. Amenities downstairs include 1 bedroom with a king bed, walk in closet, and large lounge window bench. The separate bathroom has a luxurious 2 person shower and heated concrete floor. There is a big open living room with views of the river and mountains, a rustic rock fireplace with modern gas stove, bar / kitchenette with seating for 4, a sectional sofa in front of a the fireplace with a 46” flat screen TV, premium TV channel package, and AppleTV box allows you to stream your media. A second sectional sofa with coffee table makes a great gaming area. A very nice full size pool table completes this large open living room!

OTHER AMENITIES: forced air heat (no air conditioning), endless hot water supply (tankless) so everyone can have a hot shower or soak in the whirlpool bath after a day of skiing. Washer and dryer, cell phone service is good (no land line), and high-speed wireless internet (200mbps down / 20mbps up) with unlimited data (in Truckee service outages may be more frequent and speeds are inconstant. It may take days to restore due to harsh mountain conditions), cell service is good at the house for most major carriers.

ADDITIONAL INFO: Nearby amenities in Truckee 8 miles away. Northstar 15 miles away, Palisades and Alpine Meadows 20 miles away, Sugar Bowl and Boreal 30 miles away. Nevada State line is 10 miles, downtown Reno and Reno International Airport are 25 miles.

BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION: The County has begun construction to replace two bridges in the Hirschdale neighborhood. They say construction times are restricted to daytime work hours and that noise, pollution, and traffic measures will be in place. The replacement may take up tp two years, summer 2025 to 2027. These bridges are a few hundred yards from the house and can be seen from the house. Construction may impact guests staying at this house from time to time. Pedestrian access across the bridges and river access will be provided during construction. Guests do not need to cross these bridges to access the house or other local attractions. The road beyond the bridge only provides access to the rock quarry and a few residences, it ends after about a mile and there is no parking down there, so you aren't going to miss out on anything!
NOTE: no refunds for impacts caused by construction by others.

We had a great stay! I had never stayed in this part of Truckee before, but it was nice and secluded. The view from the living room was amazing with the river and snow covered mountains. The owner was super attentive and checked on our stay. Great house, location, and winter vacation.

This is our second year staying here. Great location, beautiful view and easy access. Home is laid out nicely with room for guests in separate areas. Nicely equipped and well stocked with firewood. Plenty of dishes and space to accommodate groups comfortably for dining. We visit our kids who live nearby and appreciate the home is pet friendly and there are nice dog walk areas close by. Host is friendly and responsive. Thank you!

We enjoyed our time there. Plenty of room for all 10 of us plus our two well behaved dogs. This is the only rental I have found that allows enough room for all of us plus two dogs There was just a little snow around. But it’s still a very pretty view with the trees river and the trains going by across the river The house was very comfortable. Kitchen was nice size as well as all the rooms. Talked to host a couple of times. Very nice. Hope to come back again

Great Family House

We had a great stay! Such a beautiful home and location and had everything we needed. The only downside is the house doesn’t have direct access to the river, but we would stay here again!!

Thanks for the great review, I'm glad you enjoyed the house, and I hope to have you back! Yes, it is important for prospective guests to know that landowners along the river are now vigorously enforcing no trespassing. Access to the river from the back yard of this house is not legally possible as there is private property between it and the river. However, it's only a 100 yard walk from the front door to the Hirschdale Bridge where the public may legally access the river. There is also a really nice 100 acre parcel 1/4 mile (10 minute walk) from the house which provides public access to the river, a beautiful meadow, and lots of good fishing water!

Thank you for the 10/10 review! Yes, for future guests, reconstruction of the bridge on Hirschdale Rd. began in 2025 and will continue through summer 2026. It is visible from the house but far enough away that the noise isn't too bad. The construction work must comply with strict noise limitations due to the proximity to residences.

Outstanding property with everything needed for an amazing week long stay over Christmas. We enjoyed this property with our adult kids and and some of our grandkids. The house was very well appointed with everything needed to enjoy our time there. The house had a phenomenal view of the Truckee River behind the house and very convenient to the 80 freeway without knowing it was just minutes away. Everything needed to cook a few of our meals was there. All nice quality as well. The bedding was extremely comfortable providing great nights sleep for all. The owner was very responsive to a few questions ahead of our stay as well as after we got there. We already looked into some dates in the summer to book another visit. After staying at multiple VRBO properties in the U.S. we found one of our favorites here.

The house is well taken care of and in a beautiful location. I communicated with the property owner a few times before we arrived and he was always quick to respond. We stayed here with extended family which included four kids ages 6-9. Beautiful property with a terrific view of the Truckee River off the back of the house. Back patio deck was great for outdoor meals and being immersed in the natural surroundings. Very well appointed kitchen with virtually everything you could possibly need to cook gourmet meals. Bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms were updated and clean. Short drive away from Truckee and Lake Tahoe, with close airport access in Reno. Highly recommend this home.

I'm an avid skier, hiker, biker, paddler, and fly fisher. I love the mountains where I enjoy these activities, nature, peace and quiet, and the great outdoors. I invite you to stay at my home, I will try and provide you with everything you need to have a great vacation!

Why they chose this property

I spotted this small secluded neighborhood while fly fishing the Truckee River many years ago, dreamt about getting one of the homes on the river, and couple years later my dream came true. It's a great location with easy access from the bay area or the Reno airport. We also have access to the best stretch of river, nature, and a ton of activities are right outside the door - no car required! Several world class ski resorts, several lakes and rivers, Lake Tahoe and Reno are within a 30 minute drive.

What makes this property unique

This property stands out most for it's amazing location on the river and the beautiful views. The Truckee River is about 100 yasrds behind the house, there are only a handful of vacation rentals on the river and this is one of the best due to the quiet location, amazing views, and top notch fishing. There are really nice roads and trails right out the front door for walking, running, biking, and sometimes even cross country skiing! The newly completed Tahoe Pyramid trail runs right by the house and is great for biking, hiking, and river access. Other trails near the house go along the river and provide access to public land on the river as well as great views. Boca Reservoir is just a couple miles up the road, and is great for boating, fishing, swimming, paddling, biking, picnics, parties, etc. If you are into biking, there are lots of good options that can be accessed right from the house. Paddlers often put in at this location because of the wild and scenic float, the best rapids on the Truckee are couple miles down stream. Fishing is also great around here, this section of the river is more wild and scenic, and benefits from additional water from Boca Reservoir, Prosser Reservoir, and other feeder streams. If you like to be first or last on the river, nothing beats staying on the river!
