Located On North Captiva Island Beachfront On Pine Island Sound

The North Captiva Fish Camp is one of two houses within the Point House Properties. It is located on North Captiva Island which is accessible by boat or ferry. A true classic old Florida fish camp, it was built around 1900 and has been owned and cherished by the Kinsey Family since 1962. It survived three major hurricanes and numerous tropical storms. Located on a peninsula, the Fish Camp is nestled between Safety Harbor and Pine Island Sound. A white, sandy beach and dune walkway connect it to the Point House and its own private deep-water dock that's steps away from the front door. A cozy get-away designed for two to four people, it features full kitchen, remodeled bath, air conditioning throughout and a wide sittin' porch facing Pine Island Sound. There simply is nothing else like it.

Here is a list of questions we are frequently asked plus a few tips to keep in mind during your stay. We hope you find this information useful.

Q. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET ACROSS TO THE ISLAND?

A. BRING YOUR OWN BOAT - If you are traveling with your OWN boat you can pay, launch and park your vehicle at Pineland marina:www.pinelandmarina.com

BOAT RENTALS - There are several vendors who offer boat rentals. These are some our past guests have used with good results:

• Boats and Fun - Located on North Captiva, they advertise canoe and kayak rentals as well. Their website is www.boatsandfun.com.

• Monroe Canal Marina – Boat Rentals 239-282-8600

• Pineland Marina- www.pinelandmarina.com

WATER TAXI - There is also a safe, reliable water taxi that leaves from Pineland Marina. They have a staff of experienced, licensed captains. The boat ride from the marina to the island takes about 20 to 40 minutes depending on the tides. Contact them for hours and availability:

• Island Girl Charters - 13921 Waterfront Drive, Bokeelia, FL 33922, phone 239.633.8142 and website www.islandgirlcharters.com

Q. ARE GOLF CARTS AVAILABLE ON THE ISLAND?

A. We're glad to say there are no cars on North Captiva Island.! Yes, golf carts are a great way to travel and explore. For pricing and reservations:

• Boats and Fun - Located on North Captiva, they advertise canoe and kayak rentals as well. Their website is www.boatsandfun.com or 239-214-8676.

Q. IS THERE WIFI AT THE HOUSE AND WILL I GET RECEPTION ON MY CELL?

A. No, we do not have WIFI at either house. I use my personal hotspot when I’m out there if I need to get onto my computer. Yes, you get cell reception on the island.

Q. IS THERE A GROCERY STORE ON THE ISLAND?

A. No. There is however, a small island “general store” called Mango’s. It is great for the “forgotten item” but not to be used as a full grocery store. We strongly encourage you to bring your own groceries (packed in plastic bags) and water. There are grocery stores on Pine Island Road, which is en route to Pineland Marina: (Publix, Walmart & Target).

Q. ARE THERE ANY RESTAURANTS ON THE ISLAND?

A. Yes. Barnacles is open for lunch and dinner, serving good island fare plus beer and wine. Mango’s has a pool side bar serving limited bar menu plus drinks. If you feel like exploring, there are waterfront restaurants on nearby islands, accessible by boat.

Q. ARE FISHING GUIDES AVAILABLE?

A. Yes. In addition to fishing, our favorite guide provides eco tours, bar hopping tours and shelling tours as well. A native of the area, he can give you history and pirate information too!

• South Fish Private Charter – Phil Kinsey 239-940-4371

Q. IS THE WATER ON THE POINT SAFE?

A. Yes. However, it is chlorinated well water. We suggest bottled water for drinking, and tap water for cooking and bathing. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND YOU WILL BE STAYING ON A BARRIER ISLAND. Water comes at a premium; keep you usage to a minimum to avoid problems with the water system staying up with demand.

Q. ARE THERE BIKE, KAYAK AND CANOE RENTALS?

A. Yes. Please call for reservations and pricing information:

• Boats and Fun - Located on North Captiva and advertises canoe and kayak rentals. Their website is www.boatsandfun.com or 1-239-214-8676.

Q. ARE LINENS INCLUDED?

A. Yes. Bed linens and bath towels are provided. We ask that you bring your OWN beach towels for outside use.

Q. IS THERE A BBQ GRILL ON THE PROPERTY?

A. Yes, both properties have a park style charcoal grill. Bring charcoal if you wish to grill out.

Q. ARE WASHER AND DRYER ALVAILABLE?

A. The Point House does have washer and dryer for guest use. The Fish Camp does not.

Q. WHAT DO WE DO WITH OUR GARBAGE?

A. There are two large trash cans for the Point House and one large trash can for the Fish Camp. REMEMBER... ALL TRASH MUST BE BARGED OFF THE ISLAND! Garbage should be secured in plastic bags before depositing in the garbage cans. Crush drink containers and break down boxes to avoid additional charges for garbage. Any garbage left outside the cans will cost you $10.00 per bag! Make sure can lids are secure so the local critters don't make a mess.

Q. IS THERE A FISH CLEANING STATION?

A. Yes. It's located on the Point House dock and has running water and electricity. Please clean the table after use, and do not clean those delicious, juicy fish inside either house.

Q. WHAT IS PROVIDED IN THE KITCHEN?

A. We try to keep the kitchens fully stocked with everything guests will need...wine glasses, knives, pots, pans, china etc. If you notice something we've missed, let us know. Also, help us out by not removing items from the house.

Q. WHAT DO I DO IN AN EMERGENCY?

A. Dial 911. There is a manned fire station on the island to respond to calls. The local phone numbers will be provided at check in.

Q. ARE BEACH CHAIRS PROVIDED?

A. Yes. Adirondack chairs are on the decks at both properties. Just don't leave chairs on the beach because extreme tides will relocate them.

Q. HOW’S THE FISHING?

A. Amazing! You can fish right outside your front door.

Additional Notes:

We are on a septic system:

PLEASE!! DO NOT DUMP COOKING/FRY OIL OR BACON DRIPPINGS DOWN THE DRAINS! JARS ARE PROVIDED TO DISPOSE OF SUCH ITEMS. IT'S A NASTY JOB TO REMOVE FOREIGN OBJECTS FROM THE SEPTIC TANK! ALL FEMININE HYGIENE PRODUCTS MUST BE DISPOSED OF IN THE TRASH.

Enjoy your stay- We promise you'll never find anywhere like it again!

The owner was very helpful and offered to bring our luggage to the ferry stop with his boat. Would definitely stay again and recommend staying there.

                                                        Perfect for a slow-pace vacation

                                                        Sherry Y.Pittsburgh

My husband and I took our 9 year old granddaughter on vacation. We were suppose to go to Marathon, however, the resort never reopened because of the hurricane, So, three weeks before our vacation, we changed locations. I found this on VRBO and booked it. There wasn't a lot left without paying a fortune. This was our first visit to North Captiva and it was definitely an experience. There are no cars or supermarkets on the island and only three restaurants (not a big deal since we rarely eat out).

The rental is clean, private, small and has all of the essentials. It was perfect for three people. It is right on the water and you can see the ocean from the bedroom windows (the sunrise is also visible on that side). There is not a lot to do on the island, but that is okay with us since we love to fish and really wanted a slower place trip. We caught several fish right from the beach. We also saw dolphins and shark almost everyday. The only negative was there was no pool (which we knew ahead of time) and thought it wouldn't be a big deal since my husband and I really never get in water anyways and thought our granddaughter would swim in the ocean. However, for our granddaughter it was a bigger issue. There is a park at the opposite end with beautiful beaches and she did swim a couple of times. Fortunately, we met a wonderful lady on the island and she allowed us to be her guests so that our granddaughter could use their pool. We did reserve a gulf cart for a few days. Unfortunately, it wasn't available when we went to pick it up because the previous renter had crashed it. So, we walked and jogged everywhere we went.

My husband and I would definitely stay at the "Fish Camp" again for just the two of us and are, in fact, trying to figure out the next time we can go.

This property is absolutely amazing! Set out at the northern end of the island, super private!

                                                        Kristen L.

We loved the fish camp and hope to return soon! Spectacular sunrises right out the bedroom window/back porch! Great fishing right from the beach and the house itself is plenty large for all you need. We cooked several meals in the house and drove into town for a few drinks. Recommend renting a golf cart for sure for exploring and making it over to the gulf side. The location is perfect, beautiful, quiet and relaxing! You should probably just check it out yourself!!! :)

                                                        A little taste of Heaven

                                                        Shakara D.Asheville

What an amazing place! Love the rental, beautiful views of the beach right out of the bedroom. I honestly feel we had the best place on the Island. So private, just absolute paradise. We saw dolphins, tortoises, beautiful birds, etc. Walking distance to a great restaurant, incredible nature walks and the Island store. Everyone was very friendly on the Island. We will definitely be back! P.S-make sure to bring all the food you need, not many groceries available at convenient store.

Check out our Facebook Page (North Captiva Point House) for menus and pictures of some of these restaurants. We’re always adding more! Q. ARE FISHING GUIDES AVAILABLE? A. Yes. In addition to fishing, our favorite guide provides eco tours, bar hopping tours and shelling tours as well. A. Yes.
