About Don & Michele
This property was Don's childhood home and we have long-standing personal ties to the area. As we do not currently reside here full time, we offer the property for vacation rental when not in use by us or family. The structure itself had modest beginnings as a rustic hunting cabin that was added on to over the years. While not architecturally new, overall it is very important to us that our home is clean, functional, and comfortable; we do our best to enable relaxation and fun, and we like to emphasize the local flair in the decor. It is an incredibly special place and we very much want our visitors to enjoy their stay; we enjoy sharing fun local hidden gems to help make a visit even more special, so please ask and we'll be happy to provide ideas that fit your individual interests. Sharing one's home is an exercise in trust; we ask in return that guests treat our home and possessions with care, respect, and responsibility, and to communicate honestly and forthrightly with us.
Why Don & Michele chose Lansing
The Point has been in Don's family for generations! The location is truly unique, and the views are unrivaled. There are no residential neighbors, and despite the neighboring marinas, the property is private and peaceful, as it is almost completely surrounded by water. The location is within easy reach of beautiful hiking trails, wineries, waterfalls, farmer's markets, and two fun college towns. Unlike so many other Cayuga Lake cottages which are located on a cliff, there are no tall staircases here, and one feels much more connected to the lake!
What makes this House unique
The location of this point in combination with the angulation of the lake really does make this property feel almost like an island. Boaters are active in the southern portion of Cayuga Lake, so during the day on weekends there are lots of sailboats and cruisers to watch, but it is still enjoyable for kayaking and swimming. Midweek and during the off-season the lake is quiet and peaceful, and the wildlife really does seem to like the property; we have a great assortment of 4-legged and winged visitors passing through, depending on the season. We love the proximity to Ithaca and the vibrant college scene (while still feeling like we can enjoy a private retreat), and all that the wine region and nearby state parks have to offer. A truly memorable spot for a break from everyday life!
