Beautiful house in a great location!
Mike and Diane's house is beautiful! Couldn't get over the double-tall windows in the master bedroom overlooking the ocean - gorgeous. We were up here in October when the leaves were changing, and the park was at its finest. Highly recommended!
Very nice place for hiking
Just a few hundred feet of travel in either direction on Rt. 3 and you find yourself at either a carriage road (no bikes) or a hiking trail. Each of these options gets you into the park within an hour's hike, or other beautiful places outside the park on the network of trails that are open to the public. We could launch our kayaks right from the rocky beach which was nice. While we were there, Jose was in the Atlantic and there were high surf warnings, so not very inviting for kayaking and swimming. Lovely for watching boats and listening to the waves. The Burning Tree restaurant is very close and delicious. The cottage's three full baths were the crowning touch of a homey place in a lovely setting. Thank you to our hosts.
Fabulous location and views
This is a very spacious and comfortable vacation home with a fantastic setting and location. It is situated very close to the charming towns of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor, and very close to the south entrance to Acadia National Park. It’s a short 15- to 20-minute drive to Bar Harbor. You can also get to interesting trails and sites on the “quiet side” of the island in relatively short drives. The house is very close to Asticou Inn and the Thuya Gardens, both worth a visit or two.
Then there are the views—lovely, peaceful vistas of the water as well as access to a large stone beach. We rented kayaks for the week, and when the water was smooth, we could go out. It was a treat to be able to do that when the water and schedule allowed. We also had a fire on the beach but you definitely need a permit from the local police station, which we secured. Whether they grant you a fire or not is dependent on the amount of rain they’ve had.
The set-up of the home was very comfortable. We were there with another couple and each had their own space and bathroom. The master bedroom has spectacular views, and the second bedroom has nice side window views. There are also full, lovely views of the water from the living room, dining room, and back porch. We saw eagles, a seal, and a good amount of boat traffic, including some lobster boats. There is a third bedroom that is a den on the back of the house with a pull-out couch and access to a full bath.
We often went out exploring for the day and came home to eat dinner and gaze at the water. This place is a find and the owners are extremely nice to work with.
Location, Location, Location, Beauty and Peace
What a perfect home. We love peace and quiet, and this home is incredibly restful and quiet. How wonderful that the lovely home has its own beach (rock, like most beaches on the island) on the ocean. Would you like to wake up with a two story panoramic view of the beach, ocean, and boarder islands? Hard to believe, but this home has it all. Your neighbors are the Bourke estate (of the purse company), and a stream, so no noisy neighbors. The Asticou Inn (wonderful restaurant) and Asticou azalea gardens (beautiful) are very close. A pleasurable morning walk on a carriage road next to Little Long Pond is also very close. The owner, Mike, is a pleasure to work with, extremely helpful, incredibly knowledgeable, and very prompt with all communications. My wife has NEVER said that she would like to return to any VRBO home previously, but she is already planning to return to this home next year. Of course, the home is well appointed, clean and comfortable. Despite being quiet and away from all the congestion of town, it is easily within 15 minutes of Bar Harbor and within 30 minutes of anywhere on the island. The home is also located very close to the southern entrance to Acadia NP, the Jordan Pond House, the horse carriage stables, multiple carriage road entrances, and no traffic getting to sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, since everyone else comes in from the other direction by way of Bar Harbor (leave VERY early to get a parking spot). We did not want to leave and can't wait to go back! We have already recommended it to a number of friends.
Spectacular Oceanfront View
We have stayed here each year for the last several years and look forward to returning next year. This bright, light home invites in the outside with its large windows overlooking an island-studded ocean. Views of lobster boats checking their traps and sailboats crossing in front of the beach provide peaceful entertainment for those moments when you return from exploring the island. The house is conveniently located minutes from the restaurants and shopping of Bar Harbor, Seal Harbor, and Northeast Harbor. We highly recommend this home for your Mt Desert stay.
After a week here we are truly sad to be leaving this very well appointed home on the beach. Close to everything, including the lobster pounds. Beach a few steps from the back door, secluded area yet easy access to Acadia-2 minutes away, and downtown Bar Harbor. Mike the owner was very easy to work with and made sure our stay was memorable. I highly recommend this getaway, in fact, we are considering an additional stay next year. Great value. Lots of room for our family. We found everything we needed for a great vacation. Thanks Mike!
