Why Rosemary Matchak chose Seal Harbor

To build a house was a lifetime interest--and we did it. We are sure you will appreciate the thought and effort that went into our endeavor, and find yourself immediately at home! We visited Acadia National Park for years and were fortunate to be able to eventually live here year round. For us to live among mountains, forests and lakes all while being on the ocean is wonderful almost beyond words. We built a home of classic design but with sustainability and comfort as our priorities.

Beautiful space!

  • 5 of 5

What a privilege to stay in this house! Beautifully crafted, well appointed, clean and cared for with attention to detail and concern for the enviornment. Perfectly located in a quiet, wooded area on the edge of the park. Rosemary and Charlie offer kind and thoughtful hospitality. We would love to come back!

Lovely in every way!

  • 5 of 5

This year we replaced our NJ beach vacation with a vacation in Acadia National Park. It was one of our best decisions ever, thanks not only to the beauty of the park and the amazing variety of things to do, but also to this beautiful house. As others have written, the location was perfect in every way--many places, such as Jordan Pond and Seal Harbor beach, were walkable--and everything else we did was within a 15-minute ride (Bar Harbor, kayaking in Long Pond, Cadillac Mountain, Park Loop Road) or at most 30 minutes (Bass Harbor). Rosemary and Charles were perfect hosts, checking in from time to time (and giving us homegrown veggies) but never hovering. They put obvious care and thought into every detail of this home, which they built and decorated themselves. It was perfect and memorable for this family of 4. Don't hesitate to book Sunscape!

An excellent place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This home is immaculate and we loved it. Very clean and well kept, only a couple of years old. Located in a very nice area. The location is kind of central to most things you might do. Bay Harbor is about a 20 minute drive where most restaurants and grocery stores are. Acadia National Park is beautiful so you'll enjoy the drive. As the owners point out, don't plan on using your cell phone at the house. I think that is because the National Park doesn't allow cell phone towers in the area. However, surprisingly, there is 4G service at the top of Cadillac mountain.

The best place to stay on Mount Desert Island!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for us to stay during our week long trip to MDI. The location is wonderful, easy walk to Seal Harbor Beach, Carriage Roads, and Jordan Pond House. Only 15 min drive to Bar Harbor. Rosemary and Charlie were excellent hosts and wonderful people to get to know! We really enjoyed meeting them and we were so thankful for their great hospitality. The home itself is brand new and very clean, which was extremely important to us since we were traveling with our 15 month old. I agree it isn't the best house for kids, but with 4 adults and only one toddler we were able to contain and keep a close eye on him! Such a great vacation... we will definitely be back!

Peaceful vacation with perfect location

  • 5 of 5

A perfect place for an Acadia vacation. Great location: An easy walk to the carriage trails and a short ride to Bar Harbor or to the hiking trails. One of the best prepared homes we've stayed in -- excellent for 3 adults traveling together, but would be good for couple or family, although not with small children. We walked, took horse-drawn carriage ride, enjoyed many park features, visited Asticou gardens, shopped, and relaxed in the quiet beauty of this home and this national treasure. Very thoughtful and responsive owners. Highly recommend.

Sunscape is located in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood setting in Seal Harbor. The home is immaculate and thoughtfully built and furnished. If you are looking to bike, hike, walk, fish, play games, and relax, then this is an ideally located Acadia vacation home. Very easy access to Jordan Pond and the heart of the park. Very easy access to Bar Harbor as well, without living with the daily hustle and bustle. The owners are exceptionally nice and thoughtful - don't be surprised when you receive homegrown vegetables from the garden! All of the best of Acadia is at your fingertips!
