A peaceful retreat in a 5-acre orchard, just minutes from all the amenities!
Our location is private and peaceful, yet close to all the amenities of the main village of Eastsound. We have lived on Orcas for over 30 years (my husband, Jim, even longer) and raised our two kids here. We look forward to hosting you at The Cabin in the Orchard, and are always happy to share our knowledge of this wonderful community! The property lies at the base of Buck Mtn. Our orchard is one of the few surviving from 1895 - most of the apple and pear trees (30+) are still robust producers! The original foundation of the homestead is just behind the garden. The cottage was finished in 2016 by Orcas locals, using local wood. The heat is radiant in-floor- we're upgrading to a heat pump soon for better efficiency. We took care to provide full-size appliances: refrigerator, oven w/ stovetop, full-size washer/dryer, dishwasher. For families with babies: high chair, changing table, Graco Pack n Play. Bathroom amenities include: towels, TP, hair dryer, shampoo and conditioner. The beds (queen downstairs and king upstairs) are very comfy. There is a picnic table, a porch with comfy chairs to hang out and observe deer grazing, and a BBQ. There are games, giant frisbees, bocce ball, cornhole, pickle ball for 4 and a pop up badminton net etc. as well. Wireless internet is also available, and a Roku TV for streaming. We have an active VR permit with San Juan County.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

About the host
Hosted by Catherine Ferran
Jim and I met here on Orcas in 1991. I was a "Hollywood Refugee" and he hailed ten years prior from So Cal, as well. Before we knew it, we were raising 2 children together in what we consider to be one of the best places in the world to do so. After downsizing from a home on the mountain side above us, we built the main log home (behind the cottage) and moved there in 2006. We built the cottage and licensed it as Short Term Vacation Rental in 2016. We’re both retired now, and our cottage revenue helps us to continue living on this beautiful island!
Why they chose this property
The building of our cottage was a dream fulfilled, that only took us about 10 years to complete! We love living in the middle of a historic orchard, and we cherish our memories here.
What makes this property unique
The cabin sits in the middle of a 5 acre apple and pear orchard that was planted in 1895, when Orcas was the hub of fruit production for this region! Our trees still bear fruit- enough for us to host a cider press every year! This is a quiet, private and overall peaceful setting that is conveniently located near the main town of Eastsound and all it’s amenities.
