The property has mature landscaping around the home with a seasonal water fall and stream in front of the home. The custom mountain style home has three bedrooms, three full bathroooms, custom kitchen with adjacent dining area, loft office and a huge front room that boasts amazing views of the surrounding mountains. Adjacent to the master bedroom is a large atrium with an endless pool and treadmill with big views of the San Juan mountains. There is a large outside living room with a sectional couch and sitting area to relax in the morning with coffee or evening with a glass of wine. The property offers abundant wildlife. The lake is a seasonal home to many species of water fowl and hosts a resident trout population. The lake is fed year round with a local spring. The fields currently have horses, camels, llamas, alpacas and a small herd of angus cattle!

Steep forested mountains and cliffs surround the ranch on the south, east, and northeast. The ranch is situated in the Uncompaghre Valley at an elevation of 7,200 feet. The Uncompaghre River runs through the town of Ridgway and flows into the Ridgway State Park and Reservoir, to the north. Dallas Creek supplies the ranch's irrigation water and borders the ranch to the North. It flows from the south west and forms a confluence with the Uncompahgre before entering the reservoir. There is a notable wildlife presence in the valley and surrounding areas- mountain lions, badgers, deer, elk, bears, coyotes, wild turkey, bald eagles and golden eagles are indigenous to the area. The regions bald eagles nest in the cottonwoods along the Uncompaghre river as well as in the trees behind the main house on the ranch and are a common sight in the late fall.

If you are an outdoor adventurist, the opportunities are endless. Spring and summer activities include kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering, fishing, horseback riding, biking and high country four wheel adventuring! Not to mention the summer and fall festivals in Telluride which is a short 50 minute drive from the ranch! Winter activities such as downhill or cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, ice climbing and soaking in the Ouray Hot Springs, less than 10 minutes from the ranch! If you enjoy downhill skiing, Telluride offers world-class skiing with unbelievable views!

If you are looking for a special place for your family to gather for a reunion, Thanksgiving, Christmas or vacation to the West to take in the fall colors, this is it!

About Toni Cotton

Drs. Gary and Toni started their life together as veterinarians in the Midwest. They worked side by side in an industry that they were both completely dedicated to as they shared a common passion for animal health and husbandry. After many years of practice, marriage and raising a family, they decided to fulfill a lifetime dream to move to a ranch in Colorado. After 10 years of planning, they relocated to Ridgway, Colorado to start their life as ranchers on the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains.

Dr. Gary, also known as the Camelman, retired from veterinary medicine and became the "Jack of all trades". He spent his days working to complete the infrastructure on the ranch. He built a huge addition to the original barn, several paddocks, a parking area and several livestock shelters. He also designed and completed several landscaping projects around the main residence and barn. Once he had the ranch in working order, he decided to become a real estate broker dealing mainly with ranches and large parcels of land. He started raising Bactrian camels on the Ridgway ranch and has a true passion for these animals.

Dr. Toni spent the majority of her years as a veterinarian working with llamas and alpacas. She had a very fulfilling career that involved a specialty practice which provided her with many unique opportunities over the years. She is now retired as a veterinarian and loves living the life of a full time rancher, wife, mother and grandmother! She works with Dr. Gary as his assistant in his real estate business.

A Little Piece of Heaven on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

This home is set amongst the most beautiful mountain ranges, the San Juans, The Sneffels and others. It snowed twice during my week long stay, which made this beautiful ranch look like a winter wonderland! Ridgeway is quieter than Telluride, but it is a beautiful 45-50 minute ride to Telluride. I loved this location as I was able to enjoy the wood burning fireplace, the endless mountain, sunrise and sunset views, the resistance pool (was great for my recovering knee), friendly animals (Cupcakes the double humped camel was a doll!) and the hosts were lovely, super accommodating and interesting people. I was given trail recommendations, which I took and they were great! I would definitely return anytime of year.
