About Karen Roper
Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can, he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others. Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen teaches yoga during the summer months among some of Acadia's favorite vistas- Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain, Parkman Mountain and ocean front in Bar Harbor. Karen is presently enrolled in massage school and will graduate April 2015 with hopes of sharing the gift of massage at Acadia Yurts. As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!

Great Place Even for a 6'6" Man!
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay in this Tiny House. It had all the necessary amenities but not too many that it filled up the house. There was enough seating options for both of us.
Being 6'6" and my wife about 5'8" we both fit well in the loft area and the bed was great for the both of us. I would stay here again if in the Acadia area. They also left us with great recommendations for hikes and restaurants.
The house is relatively close to Southwest Harbor (which is great if you want to avoid the touristy Bar Harbor. Also close to good hiking areas.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! Please come back and visit any time!
Clean, cute and comfortable!
Cute tiny house and great hospitality!! Thank you, Karen and Aaron for a fantastic mini-vacation!
Beautiful Tiny House
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Tiny House and property were charming and had everything we needed. Also, Karen and Aaron were super responsive to any of our needs. I would definitely recommend this to anyone thinking of visiting Acadia National Park or the surrounding areas.
So lovely! Comfortable and Cozy! Exceeded my expectations.
The Tiny House was perfectly appointed. It had everything I could need and then some. I appreciated being able to make my own breakfast and dinners (especially the local scallops I sautéed in brown butter!). I spent a week in mid-May and it provided me with the comfort and solitude I needed. I wholly recommend this property. I hope to return.
Tiny House, Big Smiles
We spent a wonderful 3 days in the Tiny House! After hiking all day it was great to come back to this homely space and be able to cook our own food and simply enjoy our evening. We definitely want to come back!! :)
Loved the tiny house!
My boyfriend and I came to stay in the tiny house as part of our college graduation trip this May. Karen and Aaron were incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout the whole process- especially with our late arrival on the first night. The tiny house is equipped with everything you need (coffee included- a big plus for me) and the location is great. Only about a 25 minute drive to Bar Harbor and is close to all of the hiking trails and park entrances. Something to note- if you are staying during off-season, most restaurants will be closed so you'll need to go in to Bar Harbor to eat. But you'll also be missing most of the lines and traffic, so it turned out to be great timing for us! Huge thank you to Karen and Aaron, we had a fantastic time and can't wait to come back!
Southwest Harbor is affectionately known as the 'Quiet Side' of Mount Desert Island. Home to Acadia National Park, rated one of America's favorite places by Good Morning America in 2014, the activities are endless. With hiking, biking, walking trails, swimming and ocean views there is something for everyone. Acadia Yurts is owned and operated by MDI residents Karen and Aaron. This young couple brings 20+ years of hospitality industry knowledge and experience to provide you and your loved ones with a vacation experience to remember for years to come. Yurts are ancient circular dwellings and Acadia Yurts has brought modern comforts to create a beautiful union of comfort and proximity to nature. Most of the yurts sleep up to 4 with the exception of the 30' Yurt which sleeps 6. Each yurt includes a furnished kitchen, private bathroom, and comfortable bedding to make you feel at home. Acadia Yurt's now also features a Tiny House for rent for singles or couples looking to downsize! Karen is a certified yoga teacher and massage therapist and will provide spa like treatment in your comfortable dwelling at extra charge. Southwest Harbor is located less than 2 miles away and has locally owned restaurants, specialty stores, and shopping as well as a library, parks, and ocean views. Local restaurants offer fresh seafood with their unique flair. Some of our favorite places are Fiddler's Green, XYZ, Eat- A- Pita, and Sips. Outdoor enthusiasts have their pick of hiking within 5 miles of Acadia Yurts- Beech, St. Sauveur, Acadia, and Flying Mountain within a couple minutes drive. Swimming at Seal Cove Pond or Long Pond within minutes. Bass Harbor lighthouse and Wonderland walking area less than 10 miles away. Or board a Friendship Sloop with Sail Acadia for a 2-6 hour sail around Acadia National Park. Your choices of how to enjoy Acadia are endless and there is truly something for everyone!
