Vacation in an ancient circular dwelling with all comforts of home

Acadia Yurts offers visitors the most unique way to stay on Mount Desert Island. Four fun, eco-friendly Yurts will bring you as close to nature as camping, with all the amenities of home. Acadia Yurts also has electric heat inside each yurt so that you can be comfortable during any season. About Aaron Sprague

Aaron is an Maine native. He was born and raised across the bridge in Trenton and grew up attending local Bar Harbor schools. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the past 15+ years beginning as a prep cook in high school then moving toward general manager. Aaron's favorite extracurricular activity is learning all he can about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. As often as he can he trains locally and loves sharing this passion with others.

Karen is a transplant. Originally from Chicago she made her way to Maine in 2009 and fell in love immediately. In Acadia she enjoys hiking, trail running, yoga, and long walks on the carriage roads. Karen teaches yoga during the summer months among some of Acadia's favorite vistas- Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain, Parkman Mountain and ocean front in Bar Harbor. Karen is presently enrolled in massage school and will graduate April 2015 with hopes of sharing the gift of massage at Acadia Yurts.

As a couple we have done quite a bit of traveling and through that we have narrowed down the particular way we like to travel. The biggest factor for us is having a furnished kitchen in order to prepare health minded foods to nourish our bodies and support all our outdoor activities. The idea for Acadia Yurts has been brewing for quite some time. Friends of ours live off the grid in a yurt and we greatly appreciate the rustic, romantic feel of the yurt but wanted some of the comforts of home- running water, heat, electricity. From there Acadia Yurts was born. We deeply hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!!

Cute and cozy Yurts in Southwest Harbor!

  • 5 of 5

These Yurts are located in Southwest Harbor Maine. Great experience. They have all the amenities to make your stay enjoyable. Be sure to bring your laptop-they have movies to borrow--otherwise you will be totally off the grid! They do have WiFi.

Near Acadia--plenty of trails to hike nearby. Dog friendly which was a plus for us. Karen and Aaron were there if we needed anything.

Fantastic week in Acadia!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week in the Sargent Mountain Yurt near the back of the property. It was utterly amazing! The yurt was spacious, clean, and well-equipped. Beautiful kitchen, nice bedding. Karen provided thoughtful extras like a starter supply of local coffee and quality tea, and she is available for massage and yoga. The property is right next to the park on the west side of the island. Bar Harbor is about 25 minutes away, and the carriage lanes and park loop drive are all on the other side of the island, so be aware that you'll be on the "quiet side" of the island. There are still plenty of trails and hikes withing walking or biking distance from the yurt, and crowds were almost non-existent, so that was a big bonus for us as we like to avoid the crowded touristy spots when we travel. Overall, an amazing stay in a beautiful space. Highly recommend!

This is a fantastic experience that I recommend to all families!

  • 5 of 5

This is a fantastic experience that I recommend to all families! Our family wanted to go camping in Acadia national Park, but some family members wanted to stay in a nice hotel. This is the best of both! The yurt is a wonderful structure that makes you feel close to the outdoors without the unpleasantness that sometimes the companies camping. The owners run an immaculate property and Karen's yoga class is one of the best you will ever take! You cannot do Acadia national Park any better than staying at Acadia Yurts!
