Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath Gulf-front home on the Beach

Leave your car and your cares at the marina because Little Gasparilla is accessible only by water taxi! That means our beaches are uncrowded and tourists and traffic are just a mainland memory. If you are looking for a quiet tropical island to relax and unplug, Little Gasparilla is your dream vacation spot. Our "nightlife" consists of giant sea turtles laying their eggs -- our only bar is the sand bar where you can find sand dollars and shells!

Sophie's Beach House is a comfortable and cozy beach house situated right ON the beach for a perfect family vacation spot on Little Gasparilla Island. It has a spacious open porch for sunbathing and catching the gulf breezes. An indoor sun porch also provides a perfect spot for relaxing and reading while still watching the waves and the dolphins cavort right outside your window. The sunporch and living room are paneled with rustic knotty pine paneling for a warm and comfortable ambiance.

NOTE: Little Gasparilla Island is a bridge-less barrier island accessible only by water taxi. You park your car at Eldred's Marina on the mainland, and bring all groceries to the island with you because there are no commercial establishments on the island.

The kitchen is equipped with everything you need and the home has two full bathrooms. Each bedroom has a king bed so everyone can spread out and enjoy sleeping in comfort. Two bedrooms also open to a spacious back porch for additional sunbathing options.

The home also comes with a grill and we provide the services of our island concierge who will meet you at the dock and help transport your luggage and groceries from the dock to the house.

LITTLE GASPARILLA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...PLEASE READ!

• You cannot drive your car to the island and the only access is via water taxi; there is no vehicle ferry.

• You must park your car at the marina at the mainland but it will be perfectly safe there; parking is $6 a day.

• The water taxi is $10 per person each way and he will drop you right at our dock.

• All homes come with a grill. Sophie's Beach House has a charcoal grill.

• All homes come with beach chairs and an umbrella.

• You must bring all groceries to the island with you.

• There are no stores of any kind on the island, not even a convenience store.

• There is no need to bring drinking water; the water from the tap is safe and drinkable.

• There are first responders on the island and we have 911 service in case of an emergency.

• Golf carts are not necessary; the island is only 100-200 yards wide in most places and our concierge will meet you upon arrival to bring you to the house. But they are fun to go exploring and you can rent one on the island from LGI Carts: 941-697-3820. If a golf cart is important to you, you should make reservations well in advance, especially if you are coming over Spring Break or during a holiday.

• You can fish off the dock or the beach but non-Florida residents will need to purchase a fishing license.

About Little Gasparilla Vacation Rentals

We have lived on the island for 30 years and we started renting our own home many years ago when we traveled. Then our neighbors asked us to handle rentals for them -- and now we offer several vacation rentals in a variety of price ranges and locations on the island...from dramatic beachfront homes to cozy interior homes with lots of privacy. Our homes are painstakingly cared for, and very comfortable. We want you to feel like you are vacationing in a friend's home rather than a sterile "rental unit". So relax, kick off your shoes, dig your toes in the sand and enjoy the island lifestyle! "Just bring your groceries, flip flops and a tropical attitude!"™

Overall - Very Good

We stayed mid April 2017.

The location absolutely cannot be beat. The water is about 50' from the house. The beach is amazing, shelling was great and my kids found over 300 shark teeth over the course of the week.

Things to note:

The house does have AC and we had no problems with it. The house is well stocked with all the kitchen stuff we needed. There is always leftover non perishable things such as condiments, salt and other stuff from the previous renters. The coffee maker is a traditional drip style. It does have a DVD player. It also has DirectTV, but the signal isn't that great. If you're inside watching TV instead of outside on the fantastic beach, then you've got issues anyway beyond TV reception. Laundry is in a separate area outside the main house. You'll have to go outside and into the attached "shed" for laundry. The downstairs is off limits, as it appears it's reserved for the owners. You'll only have access to the second floor. There are probably 20 stairs leading up to the second floor. The house was OK for a week, however, the appliances were old and we had several issues with them. The house is definitely dated and does not have a modern feel. But if you're not looking for a 5 star hotel, this will be fine. It wasn't dirty or anything, just dated.

The walk from the bay side dock is probably on the order of 4-5 minutes. You'll HAVE to arrange for the island "taxi" service (Bret's Taxi Service) to bring you and all of your stuff back and forth from the dock to the house. Don't think it is optional. If you rented a golf cart ahead of time, the place to pick it up is halfway between the house and the dock.

The water taxi ride from the marina to the dock is about 10 minutes.

There is NOT a gas grill as the listing suggests, only a charcoal one. You'll need to buy charcoal at the store before arriving.

No bugs during the day. At night, mosquitoes were out but they weren't terrible.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments....Sophie's Beach House is indeed rustic, with knotty pine walls and an eclectic assortment of furniture. (At the beach, we tend to recycle and reuse furniture and appliances due to the difficulty of getting large items off the island on the barge.) There actually IS a gas grill at the house along with a charcoal grill...perhaps it was being serviced during your stay but there are two grills there now. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay....nothing on the island is comparable with a 5-star hotel but we like the rustic charm!

Very comfortable

The home is perfect for a relaxing getaway. It is very clean and the location cannot be topped. Do not be deterred by the logistics of getting on the island. The local water taxi service is very laid-back and will work with you if you have to make emergency beer runs like we did. We love this place and plan on coming back many more years.

Enjoying coffee to the sounds and sights of the waves is awesome and the sunsets are even better.

Overall great place . Could use a little more shade on back deck. Plenty of supplies to start and plenty of room for everyone. Having the back deck was nice as one day was windy and a little chilly but the back deck was in the sun and out of the wind. Having the concierge meet us at the dock was great, we loaded everything on the golf cart , much better than carrying through the sand. Once there you realize how nice it is with no traffic or other noises, just the surf. Rented a golf cart for a day and toured the island, that was plenty for my wife and I as we were there to enjoy the oceanfront. Forpeople with kids a couple days may be better for renting or if you have others on the island you wish to visit, but in all if you want oceanfront and quiet you won't beat this

Wonderful Beach House on the Island

  • 4 of 5

The pictures on the VRBO site don't give justice to the Sophies House on Little Gasparilla Island.

This is a perfect 3/bed room 2/bath Beach House "right on the beach".

It was clean, well furnished, comfortable beds, plenty of linens & towels, washer/dryer, TV, a un real view of the beach and amazing sunsets.

The breeze off the Gulf in the evening with the sound of the surf provides you with the perfect setting for dinner and a quiet moment on the front deck.

The beach is beautiful and loaded with shells, sand dollars, sharks teeth and other treasurers.

Everyone we met on the island was very friendly and enjoying their time away from it all too.

The Island Folks were met we very friendly too.

The Pirate Taxi guy is a little gruff when making your reservations to and from the island. Be specific with him on your times and be there on the agreed times and know ahead of time your dock number. The boat drivers were all pretty cool guys that enjoy their job and helpful with your stuff.

Oh, yes .... your stuff. Shorts, T shirts, bathing suits, beach shoes, sweatshirt, hat, sun tan lotion and minimal other clothing unless you plan to go off island for dinner.

Bring everything think you might need for your stay with regards to food. There is no store here!

A bag of charcoal is a must, snacks, food, beverages, ....check your list over ! DVD's in case there is bad weather.

Don't worry too much about salt/pepper/flour/sugar and most condiments as there are plenty left behind by others....tin foil, trash bags etc. were there too.

A very nice collection of books fills the shelves for your enjoyment Take one Leave one.

The island concierge service is a nice young man named Brett, He showed up in khaki shorts & white collared shirt and was extremely friendly & helpful. He also offers cart tours of the island. Sophie's House is a very short walk from the dock,

Our time staying at Sophie's Beach House awesome and we are planning to reserve for next year for a longer period of time.

We heard some scary stories from other island renters about their places and/or those they rented in the past....we were so lucky to have scored our time at Sophie's Beach House.

Just remember this is an island beach house!

Fantastic view!

  • 5 of 5

This home is beautiful and furnished well! The rental company was easy to work with and very accommodating along with all the staff that we came in contact with! Be aware when staying in this area that it is secluded from all the hustle and bustle of most vacation spots. No convenient stores, just you and the beach and the beautiful sunsets!!! We loved it and wouldn't have wanted it any other way! A little piece of paradise in old Florida! Looking forward to our next stay! Thank you to Tracy Gains at littlegasparillavacationrentals.com
