Go waterskiing or sailing, visit the historic St. Lovre Church or watch sun setting over Point Kamenjak. Feeling energetic? Why not take a hike through the Brijuni National Park. After dark, kick back in one of the buzzy waterfront restaurants and sample some tasty Croatian cuisine. It's what vacation memories are made of.
Going Roman—Pula's amphitheater is a blast from the past
A 20-minute drive from many Premantura vacation rentals is the ancient Istrian town of Pula. The biggest draw is the town's 2nd-century BC Pula Arena, one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world. Built in 27BC, when the city was the center of Roman rule, you can just imagine it teeming with gladiators. It's also the host of the impressive Pula Film Festival in July. If Roman's don't float your boat, then visit the Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria, also in Pula, which is housed in a 17th-century Venetian fortress.
Hop to it! Premantura is perfect for beach hopping
Premantura is very much a seaside town and life generally revolves around its many beaches. But don't come expecting to build sandcastles, as Croatia is not known for its sandy coves. Instead, most beaches have smooth white pebbles, lapped by the clearest blue seas. Stupce Beach is a favorite with locals, while Skoljic Bay attracts watersports enthusiasts with its clear, calm waters, perfect for kayaking and windsurfing. If you prefer a little culture to beach hopping, then maybe explore the rest of the peninsula with a day trip to historic Pula.
Llamas not dramas in the Brijuni National Park
Premantura is a popular beach resort on the southern point of Istria. It's a 20-minute drive from Pula, where you can get a boat over to the Brijuni National Park. Once the summer residence of President Tito, this group of 14 islands is stacked with natural charm. The main island, Veli Brijun, has plenty of scenic hikes where you can spot the wild dolphin and sea turtles which flit between the islands. It was also the home of Tito's private zoo, which was turned into a safari park in the 70s, and is now home to llamas, elephants, and mountain zebras.
