The cabin is the summer home of Children's Mystery Author, Wylly Folk St. John, and has been a place of refuge and retreat for generations. The "One-Shot" Cabin was first purchased in 1954 with the proceeds of her first publication in Red Book magazine, a "one-Shot" novella. This rustic cabin provided the setting for her book "The Secrets of Hidden Creek" and is certainly the best place to read it! She, many of her friends (such as Olive Ann Burns and Celestine Sibley) and their children would spend summers here working on various literary projects and floating on the lake while their husbands went fishing. Not much has changed since those days! Her husband's fishing boat, Becky-Jen, is parked on one side of the dock and her great-great grandchildren use it to map out adventures of their own every chance they get. We invite you and your children to share in the magic.
There is a canoe and floats if you would like to spend your time on the lake as we are located on a deep- water cove (in the Spring, Summer and Fall that is; from January to March- we affectionately refer to the backyard as "Lake Not").
The Disney movie "The Secret of the Pirate's Inn" was based on her book of the same title and is included in our DVD library for your enjoyment. There are also countless books to choose from for fellow readers who will choose to simply laze their days away reading. We have a collection of board games to entertain you at night. Over the years, we have made some changes in the interest of modern convenience and comfort. We now have a hot tub with waterfall overlooking the lake and mountains. There is a private 2-story play area ("The Fort") that provides fun for all ages. If you are looking for a fun and relaxing time with your family in the North Georgia Mountains- look no further! |
