This unique guest house offers one bedroom with a queen bed, and a full size sofa bed in the living room. Windows in every room look out into the oaks, where you can see deer, squirrels, and occasional rabbits. The cottage was built with the finest materials, including slate roof with copper gutters, bamboo and slate floors, granite counter tops, tumbled marble shower, and maple cabinets. A deck with glass railing encircles the entire house. There is a full kitchen with refrigerator, gas cook top, True convection oven, and dishwasher. For the active visitor, Marin offers hiking, mountain and road biking, swimming, surfing, kayaking, and both fresh and salt water fishing. There are a number of yoga studios within a few miles. For the more leisure minded, Marin offers many fine restaurants, wine bars and cafes, numerous theaters, plenty of shopping in unique boutiques as well as a choice of shopping malls. Adjacent to San Rafael is San Anselmo, a quaint town renowned for its numerous antique stores. San Rafael is the home of one of renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpieces, the Marin Civic Center. It is also the 20th of the 21 California Missions. The incredible beauty and and temperate climate of San Rafael makes it a favorite location for visitors wanting easy access to both San Francisco as well as the wine regions of Napa and Sonoma. I am hesitant to write this review as selfishly I don't want too many people to discover this gem. Phenomenal stay. Joe and Moli were wonderful hosts. Wife and I traveled with the little one (15 months) and 3 nights was not enough. Thank you Joe!

There really are not enough positive things that can be said about this accommodation, it's location and the owner Joe. Our experience here was no less than magical. On this vacation, I have to say that coming home from our day and evening adventures was as much to look forward to as the adventures and entertainment that we were there for to begin with. Coming home after a night of amazing live music to sit on the circular porch, drink wine, watch the meteor showers and listen for the family of deer rustling in the trees and clover. . . .ahhhhhhh. We're coming back! Thanks Joe! You and your home are amazing!

The owner called it the Love Shack. I think this is true ;-). It is a very quiet surrounding and the house is luxurious. We like it very much.

I visited with my mom and brother, and could not have been happier. We were greeted by Joe with a bottle of champagne, and were told about all of the best eateries in town. We felt so well taken-care of, but also were given full privacy. The tree fort was the perfect way for us to kick off our vacation- beautiful location, beautiful home, and kind hosts. We will definitely be back!

This property is exactly as described and pictured, attractive, clean and well stocked, including a selection of videos, a supplied medicine cabinet, and even a drawer of disposable diapers. The setting is charming, nestled in the oak trees, with squirrels and deer wandering through the property. After a day of activities the cottage was a wonderful retreat. It was too cool to sit on the deck, though I can imagine that it would be wonderful, in warmer weather, to be out there relaxing, and gazing through the trees out to the bay. Joe, the owner, was pleasant and very easy to deal with in making arrangements, as well as on arrival. We only saw him that one time, though it was clear he was available should we need anything. If you are traveling with children you should know that the room dividing walls are glass from about eight or nine feet up to the ceiling. That meant that when we put the five year old to bed, we adults had to sit in the dark until he was asleep. If we had known about this we probably would not have booked the property for a trip with children. That said, this is a wonderful cottage, and I hope to be able to return with just my husband on my next visit to the Bay Area.

What a wonderful little spot of peacefulness! I stayed here by myself while visiting relatives in the area. I felt so safe and at peace coming and going at night and during the day. I was able to take advantage of some of the beautiful hiking available at China State Park the same day as I had dinner in San Francisco with my son! Thanks so much to Joe and Mali for a perfect little place!

What a find! San Francisco easily reached by ferry or car and the most delightful quirky darling cottage to relax in. Plus great walks from the cottage to overlook the bay. Shops and restaurants nearby in San Rafael. The cottage itself had everything you could want, well equipped kitchen, comfy bed, comfortable sitting room and outside private balcony surrounding the whole. All very clean and welcoming. Jo was charming and put himself out to return my 'charger' to England. Thank you Jo. We only wish we didn't live so far away as we would return again and again! Certainly one of the jewels of a stay on our around the States trip.

Two women friends and I rented this lovely "treehouse" as an alternative to a hotel, when we were recently in San Rafael for a conference. We could not have been more delighted with the accommodations and our gracious host, Joe. The pictures on this site are good, but they don't entirely do the cottage and location justice. What a gorgeous, peaceful setting to unwind in at the end of a long, stimulating day of lectures. We loved everything about this place!

About the owner: I have lived in San Rafael most of my life, and have always enjoyed living here. It has great proximity to San Francisco, the ocean, as well as the wine country.

Why the Owner Chose San Rafael:
I wanted to build something unique for our visitors, and a 20-sided cottage with a cone-shaped roof set in the middle of some oak trees certainly fit the bill.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Very secluded, peaceful, relaxed environment to rest and recharge. Deer, squirrels, and the occasional rabbit are just some of the wildlife you're likely to come across during your stay.
