The Elisha Howland Saltbox provides your opportunity to experience the unmatched essence of a true 'Olde Cape Cod' home. We offer a restored antique Saltbox with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and room for two more guests in the detached cottage, which is a separate rental. (see below)
Our 1824 home is located in one of the most historic areas of Brewster. Small on size but big on charm, you will see many of the original features, such as the 'ladder' stairs, the old floorboards, the wavy glass windows carefully preserved, and a working replica of the original fireplace. Lovingly brought back to life, this restored antique home truly is a home away from home, complemented with all the modern comforts - fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, basement washer and dryer, cable TV, DVD player, and wifi. We are open year round and welcome you for a visit, whether it's for a weekend, a week, a month or more. We welcome weekend guests during the winter, spring, and fall, and occasionally can accommodate stays of less than one week during the summer.
Located in a quiet residential area of the Sea Captain's town of Brewster, our home has a spacious yard featuring two flower gardens and a shade garden with a stone patio and sitting area. Adjacent to the patio is a water feature with a gurgling stream, making a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a cup of morning coffee or perhaps a glass of wine at the end of the day.
The detached cottage is a separate rental, which may be rented for additional charge by the week or for a shorter period, with a two night minimum stay. We are delighted to offer this space to our guests who rent the main house, to be used by families who would like to bring a grandparent or two, or by couples who enjoy vacationing together, but also want to respect each other's space. The cottage offers a queen bed, small sitting area with microwave, dorm-style refrigerator, TV, and a full bathroom with shower. There is a screened porch with a patio table for two. The weekly cottage rate is half the rate for the main house. Please note that the cottage is not available as a separate and primary rental.
The upstairs bedroom has a standard double bed, walk-in closet in the hall, and TV. Remember the access is via the ladder stairs!
The downstairs bedroom is small and has a 3/4 size bed, which is larger than a twin but smaller than a double. The room includes an armoire....moreless

About the owner: Jane is a Brewster native, whose family heritage dates back to the earliest Pilgrim days. Her ancestors were among the first Pilgrims to settle in Brewster. She knows the Cape and New England well, and is always delighted to help with your trip planning.
Why the Owner Chose West Brewster: We were thrilled when we were offered this property by the previous owner's family. It was their family's treasured Cape Escape for the past 50 or so years. Originally, the home was owned by the same family from the time it was built to approximately the 1930s.
The Unique Benefits at this House: Our home provides a rare glimpse into a simpler life in Brewster almost 200 years ago - but without the hardships that were endured in the olden days.
