  The rental is great, the Internet/phone didn't work for the first 2 days. But they were able to get both repaired for us. The Groundskeeper Ricardo was very nice, and super helpful. My bigger complaint is that he was too helpful, and around a lot. I woke up to him sweeping, he came to the beach with us etc. I'm sure some of it was my broken Spanish with his broken English. But overall a nice guy just looking to help. The rental is large, tons of windows, hammocks and yard are great.

  I couldn't reccomend this place any higher. Highlight was the caretaker Richard who was looking out after the house and me and my friends during our stay. I would make him coffee and breakfast in the morning and he would point us in the right direction for the day. The house is beautiful and easily accommodates 4 people. Would stay there again. Having a car made it even better as the house is 6 km from Jaco and about 1km from Playa Hermosa and the local restaurants and bars.

  Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

  We (2 adults, one 3-year old) had a great time in Playa Hermosa, Casa Escondido. We took a bus straight after we landed in San Jose and so we spend our first 4 nights in Costa Rica here. The house is very comfortable and big. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The ceilings are very high, which gives it a lot of space. The caretaker is extremely friendly and accomodating. He took us up to the waterfall for a hike just in the backyard of the house. The garden is part of the jungle. If I would have to say one thing that was not comfortable, it was the bikes. Don't rely on them, their old and crappy, which was unfortunate because we didn't have a car and had to rely on them. Internet is working great! Playa Hermosa is pretty and about a mile away from the house!

  Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

  Owner response: Katja, I am glad that you had a good time at our house. I'm terribly sorry the bikes were in poor shape. I am going to be there next week and will purchase 4 new bikes so this doesn't happen again. I hope that you and your family are able to come visit Casa Escondida again.

  I've been to Costa Rica six times, been up and down both its Caribbean and Pacific coasts. I can easily say this property is in a league of its own. Not your typical gaudy american-ized vacation mansion, this property is instead your home away from home. Nestled up against a mountain-side on a quiet road one kilometer from the beach, this property offers you and your family/friends all the amenities you need to escape, unwind, relax, and feel as if you're living in Costa Rica. The owners treat you like family from the start, quickly answering all your inquires (and offering unsolicited advice and suggestions). Perfectly located near world-class surfing (Playa Hermosa), Manuel antonio National Park, and Jaco (for your city needs), this property is ideal. Absolutely wonderful.

  Wow, where to start, my fiancée and I stayed from Feb-Oct of 2009 and had the time of our lives. I was lucky enough to get a job at a local international school that enabled us to stay so long, and my fiancée became a certified yoga instructor in Montezuma (just a beautiful boat ride away from Hermosa). She began teaching yoga right down the street from the house at a local studio. She literally rode one of the house's bikes to work everyday. Due to our lengthly stay we were able to plant a huge garden right at the house. We had fresh jalepenoes, green & red peppers, cucumbers, corn, etc.The lemon, lime and papaya trees weren't quite mature while we where there but must be by now. The place is absolutely beautiful with all the wildlife literally in the huge back yard. The stream adjacent to the house keeps those scorching hot days just a touch cooler. The waterfall just ten minutes from the house is like out of a magazine. Not to mention you have the Pacific Ocean with world renowned surf, a gorgeous beach and awesome restaurants just a short bike ride away. Jaco a ten minute drive up the coast has all the amenities one could desire, with elegant restaurants, shops and all the tourists activities that come with a tropical beach town. We drove down to Panama about five hours south along the coast twice. It is a very easy country to travel in and the locals are wonderful. We are getting married soon and are planning an extended honeymoon back at the house. To all that get the opportunity to travel down to Casa Escondido (the hidden house) take it!

  My girlfriend and I rented this house at the end of '09 and first couple weeks of '10 and it was probably the best trip we ever had. The house is not extravagant but it had everything we needed including an outside deck/hammock area where we spent most every night talking and drinking and whatnot. Totally private and there's a really pretty waterfall a short walk away. The house is on a dirt road one mile straight to Hermosa Beach. The surf there is huge and we often found ourself going a couple miles north to Jaco to find "smaller surf" as embarrassing as that sounds. We rode the rickety bikes to the beach for the first half of the trip until we renting mopeds for the last half and that was a lot of fun. We also took the bus (not the fastest but very cheap and and bus stop is on the same road as the house) to Manuel Antonio National Park about 70miles south and it's hard to come up with superlatives that adequately describe the park. Animals everywhere and the beaches in the park are tucked away with monkeys hanging on trees that hang right over the beach area. Overall, I can't say enough about what a positive experience we had renting out this house.
