Beautiful Home: Labor Day Week - up to 6 Nights Available
- Minimum stay:Contact owner
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Beautiful ranch home with a lower walkout finished basement, built in 2006. Nicely furnished; all you need to bring is your suitcases, groceries, trash bags, charcoal, hygiene supplies, and toilet paper and toiletries. You also may want to bring fire wood if you plan to use our outdoor fire pit so you don't have to scrounge around the area or buy it. Just about everything else is provided. If you're vacationing with your friends or have older children that want some privacy...this is it.
This house has a maximum approved occupancy for 10 people over age 2, plus 4 children under age 3 at the time of the rental.
The upper level has 3 bedrooms (1 king and 2 queen size beds), 2 full baths, a modern kitchen, dining room, living room with a 42' satelite TV, and a laundry room. Walk out to a large balcony with a stainless steel gas BBQ grill, and sit back in comfortable chairs and enjoy a nice view of the lake with beautiful evening sunsets.
The lower level is almost self-sustaining with 3 bedrooms (2 with queen beds and the 3rd with a bunk bed (1 full size bed on the bottom and 1 twin bed on top)). There's also a queen size sleeper sofa in the recreation room. There's 1 full bath, a partial kitchen/wet bar with a refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven, a huge recreation room with a 42' Satelite TV, pool table, dart board, 12' Shuffleboard table, and card table. Walk out to a covered patio with a chargoal grill and relax in the hammock with your favorite drink. There's also a picnic table and 6' square kennel next to the patio.
The master bedroom has gorgeous furniture and the king size bed is so soft and comfortable you may spend your vacation right there watching a movie on the wall-mounted 32' TV... Unless you take a few moments to relax in an oversized tub surrounded by wall candles. The other 2 bedrooms on the upper level have brand new queen size mattresses and the rooms are beautifully decorated and very spacious.
There are gas firelogs in the upstairs and downstairs fireplaces. Sit back and enjoy a nice warm fire with your loved ones on those cool Fall and Winter evenings. Please don't put anything into these fireplaces; if you want to cook some marshmellows or any other food items, we have a huge fire pit in the backyard for your enjoyment.
Linens and towels are provided as an option and the beds can be made prior to your arrival. You will need to strip the sheets and pillow cases off the beds, and wash and dry them and the towels before your departure. This is so our maid service can have the beds ready for the next guests if needed. Or, you can bring your own bed linens and towels and don't worry about doing the laundry on your last day of vacation. It does take a while to wash and dry all of the linens and towels, so if you choose to bring your own bed linens, you'll have to make the beds upon arrival. Please let me know at least 2 weeks ahead of time so I can notify the cleaning service.
There's plenty to do right at the lake house or within a few hundred yards. You can walk down to the beach for a swim, use our 12' water trampoline with a slide, or take the pedal boat out with 3 others for a fun spin around the cove or do some fishing. Or, pedal yourselves over to the Marina's sandy beach for sunbathing and fun stuff to do for the kids.
Children of all ages will have a blast running the 4 passenger golf cart around the yard or exploring the neighborhood...or taking the golf cart over to the Marina in the morning or afternoon for breakfast, lunch, or to use the playground... then you and yours can drive it over at night to enjoy the Tiki Bar with great food and live entertainment on weekends. The restaurant and tiki bar are seasonal; opening in mid April and closing the end of September.
If you're bringing a boat we don't have a dock available on the property; but, we do have a covered slip with a lift at the Marina (slip #E24); located just around the corner from the house. This is a short 5 minute walk or use the golf cart and zip right over. There's food, beverages, gas, and even ice cream, all at this convenient location. If you need a boat, don't worry, the Marina rents those too.
Our waterfront area is small, but it has a sandy and grassy beach. There's plenty of room to sit in a lounge chair and watch the kids play. There's also a fire pit near the beach so your family can enjoy an evening campfire and roast marshmellows. Our membership at the Marina offers the use of their beach that has a dock, swim platform, and swings for the kids.
And yes, we love our pets and if you need to bring your four legged friends along on your vacation it's okay. Some restrictions apply.
We'll try to make your vacation fun and relaxing. If there's something you need we'll do our best to make it happen!
Keep checking on the calendar for availability dates; some dates are temporarily blocked pending tentative reservations. I update the availability calendar every few days!
New this year: we have a wi-fi system for internet access!
Keywords: Waterfront home near buoy marker C2A. Level lot, 2 floors with 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, adjacent to marina (covered slip available) and restaurant/tiki bar with entertainment, pedal boat, golf cart, and pet friendly.

This is a wonderful house for all ages. We had 3 generations, and all were comfortable. There were thoughtful touches everywhere, making the house feel like we were staying in a family home, not a rental. All of the rooms are large, allowing everyone there own space. Everyone loved the game room, and with the second living area, it allows for quiet time upstairs while playing downstairs. The kitchen was wonderfully equipped! Again, it is obviously a home meant for a family to enjoy. We've stayed in homes in the past that left us wishing we had brought our own kitchen items. That is definitely not the case here. Everything you could want is right there, including lots of space to move around! The slope into the lake is so gentle, it was very safe for our small children. They had a blast all week, with our 5 year old declaring it to be the "Best vacation EVER!!"Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We try to have everything at the lake house that you'd find right at your own home...plus a few other things for that added touch. We've received many great ideas from our guests over the years that helped us improve on the accommodations. Mary Kay and I are going shopping this weekend to buy a 6qt dutch oven so you won't have to bring one the next time. We're glad you enjoyed your vacation and hope we'll stay with us again next year.

Great property and the price is right! Our family spent Easter Weekend at this property and we had a blast. The house is well furnished and spacious. There was plenty for the kids and teens to do even though is was a cool time of year. Smith Mountain Lake is a great place with a lot to do even though we could not swim in the lake at this time. The kids ALL loved playing at the lake shore in a little wooded area. They spent hours there and we could watch them from the comfort of the inside or deck. We are booking this house again for the warmer season!Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: You were our first guests for 2013 and we're really pleased you, and all of your family, enjoyed the Easter weekend at Smith Mountain Lake. We do our very best to provide a great place to relax and enjoy the lake at an affordable price. Mary Kay and I appreciate you choosing our lake house for your weekend retreat and hope you'll visit again soon.

Our family had a Thanksgiving holiday together. We had not been together for Thanksgiving for twelve years. We had a wonderful time sharing laughs, playing games, watching football, cooking dinners, making smores at the campfire and just enjoying our children and grandchildren. The house was clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to accommodate our group. We would highly recommend a vacation at this property.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We're really pleased that you and all of your extended family members enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday week at Smith Mountain Lake. Mary Kay and I added new gas log sets in the upstairs living room and downstairs recreation room fireplaces, a 12ft shuffleboard table, and new kitchen knives. After talking with you last month about your plans to have all of your family together for Thanksgiving, we also made sure we had a roasting pan availlable for your big turkey. It sounds like you all enjoyed everything the house has to offer.

This was a wonderful home with a good floor plan and can easily accomodate many family groups. The spacious great room, deck, kitchen and dining room allowed for great interaction. At the same time, different groups could be doing different things while yet still together. The downstairs great room provided another spacious and similiar area. Our grandchildren especially enjoyed the beach and lake area. Our family also enjoyed the other amenities, such as the pool table, fire pit area, taking rides on the golf cart and trips to the marina's beach and playground. We played games, watched movies, viewed beautiful sunsets and had an overall wonderful time. Our four year old grandson said, "let's stay here forever!" Many memories were made and we thank the owners for sharing their home with us.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: We're really pleased that everyone enjoyed Smith Mountain Lake and everything our house and the surrounding area have to offer. Mary Kay and I are heading out to the lake this afternoon and adding a 12ft shuffleboard table to the downstairs recreation room. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and we hope to see you all again next year!

What a great house! It's much much bigger than you would expect! You could have 14+ people in that house and it wouldn't of felt crowded. The basement is huge with pool table and a dart board. We were having so much fun inside that we had to remind ourselves we were at the lake and go outside and enjoy it. It's right next to Mitchell's Marina. It was only a couple minute drive with the golf cart. Marina also had a little restaurant and sold ice. We loved the location. It was so easy to rent a boat or grab some food. It was also extremely clean and well stocked. There were plenty of towels. I love that they had the spice cabinet and everything else we needed to cook. After seeing the house, I feel like we had one of the best deals on the lake. Highly Recommend. Thank You!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car.
Owner response: We try to have everything available that a family would need to make the stay at our lake house enjoyable. Mary Kay and I are pleased that you, Courtney, and your guests enjoyed your stay at Smith Mountain Lake and the Saunders Point area.... and we agree with you... this may be one of the best deals on the lake! Thanks again.

This house was absolutely wonderful. It was well appointed with lots of amenities that made our stay fantastic. Everything was as described and the house was very spacious. There was 13 of us yet we never seemed crowded. The kids (of all ages) enjoyed the water trampoline and paddle boat too. Although the access to the lake was small, as described in the rental information and photos, it was more than enough to enjoy the water. We rented a pontoon boat at nearby Mitchells Marina and had no problem boarding here. We would highly recommend the house to anyone with a large group or family. Tom and Mary were so nice and accommodating. A wonderful experience and great memories for our entire family. Thank you for the vacation we will always remember and talk about.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: One of the best things Mary Kay and I like about this house is the large rooms. The bedrooms, living room, and family room are really big. The house is nicely set up to accommodate large groups while keeping a warm, comfortatble atmosphere. We are extremely pleased that everyone in your group enjoyed our lake house and the "toys" we've provided for the kids. Mary Kay and I continually add more things to make the house and lake front more enjoyable for people of all ages. Thank you for staying with us and we hope you visit beautiful Smith Mountain Lake again.

A beautiful home that was large enough for our group . We visited Peaks of Otter, Booker T.Washington Monument, D Day Memorial ,and relatives. We went fishing ,ate at local restaurants, and took the kids to the amusement pier at the bridge. Found the cemetery to be interesting. We had a very good time. Thank you Tom & Mary Kay .Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: It sounds like your family took advantage of the many wonderful spots Smith Mountain Lake has to offer. Mary Kay and I hope you'll consider staying at our home again if Smith Mountain Lake is in any of your future vacation plans.

We enjoyed the house. We expected better access to water. We we told we could use the small beach next door, which we did. It would have been nice to have a diagram of the location of the boat slip. It took over 30 minutes to find it while crusing around in the bass boat. We had a lot of fun in the gameroom playing pool and darts.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Mary Kay and I enjoyed talking with you when you arrived and are pleased you and your family enjoyed your stay. The boat slip numbers are posted on the road side of the dock only; I'll ask the Marina owner if he will add slip numbers to the water side. We'll also update the guest book with a diagram of the Marina showing exactly where the slip is located. Thanks for the suggestion!

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: My wife and I have been married for 39 years. We have 3 grown children and 6 grand children. In our younger years we raised and showed Golden Retrievers. Now..we try to get out to the lake as much as possible with the family and enjoy this fantastic lake.
Why the Owner Chose Huddleston:
Smith Mountain Lake is a vacation paradise. There's nothing else in Virginia that can compare to this lake. We hope you'll enjoy your time here as much as we do.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Besides the fun you'll have on the water, you can find some one-of-a-kind places to experience. Stop by the Mayberry Drive In Diner and enjoy some great food in an old-time diner atmosphere. Then pull your car into the field out front for an outside drive in theater double-feature movie. WOW...just like back in the 50s and 60s!
Take a 30 minute drive to Burnt Chimney and taste some homemade ice cream at the Amish-run Homestead Dairy.
If you're lucky enough to be here on July 4th week, this is the best spot on the lake. The biggest fireworks on the lake happens at the end of the cove. You can sit in the back yard, go over to the Marina where the fireworks are being lauched, or take a boat out into the cove and watch a spectacular display of lights as reflections shimmer off the water. You get an added benefit of seeing the County's fireworks just over the hill on the opposite side of the lake.
