Last House on the Bay at West End of the Island with Dock and Pool
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
The last house on Apalachicola Bay at the West end of the island. This is just before the Cut which is the navigational channel seperating Little St. George Island State Park. This home has a deep water dock (10') with power, a private pool shared among the 10 residential homes of Bayside, a place for parking your boat trailer while you visit. A private boat ramp is available just a few hundred yards away that allows a boat launch directly into the navigational channel. Surrounded by parkland and water, this home is a great experience. And fishing is GREAT here too. The strong tide runs in deep water along the dock going to and from the navigational channel are very productive for many saltwater game fish. Very private and peaceful. Located in the Plantation. A private gated community with new clubhouse and pool.

This is the first time I have felt the need to give a less than favorable review of a house on VRBO. I only wish someone before us had been as honest in an evaluation. First of all while the house was clean, it did not live up to the online listing description. Items that were not as lisited were: It did not have a "smart" TV with video library, but instead a older "tube" TV and no videos. In fact we did not have access to Cable the entire 10 days and were without WIFI for two days. The owner finally brought a DVD player that let us access Netflex Streaming only. Lamps in the living room were broken, smoke detecter unhooked, light bulbs out on stairway, unable to close window on main level so rain and wind came in, and only one chair for the table on porch. We paid rental for the bikes, but unless you were over 6' tall it would have been impossible to ride. Owner promised to refund bike rental but never did even after several requests. Owner always promised to take care of things, but was either out of town or too busy to promptly take action. This house needs someone to check things out before renters arrive, and take care of needed items. It was very frustrating to spend our vacaion time working through these problems.Owner response: A very confused and difficult visitor. Internet TV was available but the cable service was out and the cable service provider had difficulty getting repairs done. Since then, we switched providers from an island based company to the phone company service which should be more responsive. Smoke detector battery went out and was promptly replaced. Heavy storm caused some wind blown rain to come in, but very unusual. Bikes were NEW adult bikes with baskets. Standard frames. Guess this complaint was because his teenage daughter could not ride. We did send a refund check in the mail. This person was always agitated and very difficult to please.

We brought parents, kids, and our baby grandson. The house is very roomy and comfortable, and we enjoyed the porches morning and evening. Kept a boat at the dock to go fishing, but we caught as many fish from the dock as we did from the boat. Bring a cast net and you can catch all the bait you need. Brought our kayaks and left them over at the beach all week. Short walk to the beach, and we had the screened pool (shared with a few other houses) to ourselves all week. Saw schools of dolphin every day! Nice bike trail up and down the whole island. This house is almost at the west end of the island and feels very secluded. Papa Joe's Oyster Bar and Grill over in Apalachicola had the best steamed shrimp. The owner and his crew were very responsive and helpful. I was hearing comments about "next time" from the family by the second day.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children.

Our family had a wonderful time at this property; so much so that we extended our stay from one to two weeks. George the owner made it all incredibly easy and was super accommodating. The house has tall ceilings and amazing views of the bay. The deep water dock was so much fun to fish from. I highly recommend staying here and our family plans to do so again. Enjoy your time here!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: Apalachicola native went into the military at age 18, then a career in the corporate world, now retired to the good life on the island. I live on St. George Island and run the Maritime Museum in Apalachicola.
Why the Owner Chose Plantation:
I purchased this home because of the deep water dock, the privacy, the great fishing at the dock and the jetties. Also, the proximity to Little St. George Island and access to the Gulf via the Cut is great for offshore fishing.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This home is literally at the end of the road. Situated at the end of the island with a broad expansive view of the water. It is all about peace, quite, privacy and the tranquility of the Bay at this home. Enough parking for four cars underneath the house with the entrance under the house that allows getting to and from your car while avoiding inclement weather. The great fishing from the dock allows you to bring in fresh fish to the dinner table each evenig.
