Secluded deck among the firs and pine trees with a charcoal barbecue, table, and chairs provide for relaxing afternoons. The roads are deserted making them great for biking, hiking or walking the dog. You can walk into Calaverous Big Trees State Park on a trail between two house about 1/4 mile up the street. There is endless hiking here.

Why the Owner Chose Arnold
Rebecca and I continued coming to this area every summer, staying at Cal Berkeley family camp near Strawberry Lake for about 12 years when our children were young. When the kids got older we decided to buy a cabin. We wanted to be near the beautiful Big Trees at Calaverous State Park, close to the Stanislaus River, high enough to get some snow during the winter and close enough to easily drive to Bear Valley Ski Resort in the winter. Big Trees Village was the perfect location and its large, quite, heavily forested lots were just what we were looking for. We are retiring this year and hope to finially be able to fill that childhood dream of Living in the Sierras, at least for part of the year.
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet
It is so beautiful, quiet, safe and relaxing to be at our forest hideaway. We love the Spring and Fall because it is so fresh and quite. You can hike hundreds of trials and often you don't see anyone all day. We do several of the hikes through the Big Trees every year and it is always so exciting I feel like it is the first tiime. Everything changes both year to year and with the seasons. In the winter we spend our time snowboarding, cross country skiing, or sitting around a warm fire place and playing in the snow right at the cabin. In the summer we hike, wine taste, rent canoes for the lakes nearby, visit the Stanislaus River to swim, picnic or fish, visit the local caves, drive to Daffodil hill, tour the nearby gold mining towns, hang out at the recreatin center. Lots of times we stay out at the cabin all day, fix a few things in the morning, go for a in walk in the neighborhood, read and relax.
Car access to the North Grove of Giant Seqoia Trees with groomed and handicap accessable trails. Grove is right at the B marker.
South Grove of Giant Seqoias. Secluded Redwoods with 5 miles of hiking trails in grove. Very few people in this area. Small, but well marked, trails. A must for hikers.
Stanislaus River access in Big Trees State Park. Fun for young kids to play in river, fishing, picknicking and hiking.

As a young person I dreamed of livingin the Sierra Nevadas. During the college summer break of the year I turned 21 I found a summer job in Murphys on a ranch. Later that summer I worked my way up to registrar and book-keeper at the Murphies hotel and volunteered at the local veterinary clinic. It was an idealic summer and I planned to return after I finished college. Several years later my girlfriend (Rebecca whom I married) and I began rented a cabin in the Arnold area and invited a group of about 10 of our friends for winter break. That became a tradition which lasted for about 15 years. Rebecca and I are veterinarians living in Santa Barbara.
