'Waimea Ohana' is the best in up country living just off the beautifully scenic Kohala Mountain Road on the 'sunny side' of Waimea/Kamuela, a cowboy town with breezes and milder temperatures that provide an idyllic Hawaiian environment. The ultimate in comfort and classic Hawaiian style, this impeccably restored large three bedroom, two bath island home has beautiful views of the Kohala Forest Reserve and Mauna Kea. Ideally located just minutes from Waimea town center offering many unique shops, galleries, farmers markets and excellent dining options. The home is very private and quite situated on a half acre of lush landscaped land that is intrinsic to well being. The Waimea Ohana is classic Hawaiian style architecture with wide hip roofs and a large covered open lanai, the perfect spot to enjoy your cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at sunset. Waimea town is the best central location to explore everything from the nature of the Big Island ecology to the future of the universe at the Mauna Kea Observatory and of course the best beaches on the island are just minutes away. Quiet street and luxury bedding made for a very restful week exploring the western end of the Big Island. Though we weren't sitting on a hillside on a ranch, we were within steps of the view shown on VRBO with chickens clucking in the neighborhood. The beautifully appointed and decorated bungalow felt like home for two seniors, two adults and two little boys. The carpeted garage with laundry was an added bonus for active children when a shower blew through and we couldn't play in the yard. The high-end kitchen was well-equipped and a pleasure for the cooks in the group. The rainforest, canyon areas and beaches were within easy, panoramic drives, and Waimea was only two miles away with restaurants, groceries and Farmers' Markets. Mauna Loa is "right there" on a clear day, and Laura was "right there" as well to answer any questions, offer travel suggestions and arrange paddle boarding lessons, a massage or any other request. Comfortable and convenient, the Green Ohana provides a refreshing rest at the end of busy days of exploring and touring.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Many families have discovered the magic of the Big Island of Hawaii and can't wait to come back to experience more! The Waimea 'Ohana is centrally located to all the activities on the Island and after a big day we are happy to provide a Luxury Hawaiian Retreat to you and your family to come back home to!

This is one of the best appointed and comfortable rentals I have ever stayed in. The owner has thought of everything, and the house is in immaculate condition. The kitchen is wonderfully supplied, and the deck and bbq made for fun entertaining as well. We based our work out of the house, which was easy with its large garage area. A very enjoyable stay!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

I have rented quite a few houses, and this is by far, one of the best. The kitchen was fully stocked, which is a huge plus since my wife is a chef. In addition, the house was clean, and a housekeeper came during our stay to straighten up. Furthermore, the beds were unbelievably comfortable! I come from a family of light sleepers, and the beds were warm, cozy, and soft to touch. We all slept sound asleep, and woke up well rested to explore the beautiful island of Hawaii. We did not encounter any problems, and Laura was very kind, and easy to get in touch with if we had a question. I recommend this vacation rental without hesitation, as it fit all of our needs. If we do come back to Hawaii, we will definitely be coming back to this house! Thank you Laura!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

This is a beautifully appointed bugalow - a great Wimea homebase! No details forgotten: updated finishes and decorations throughout and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Laundry onsite and space to park multiple cars make this is a great place for a group or multiple couples to come and go, make meals and revive for the next adventure. It's a solid drive from any beach, but makes up what it lacks in quick beach access with quality and comfort.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

I recently stayed at this beautiful vacation home with several other couples. We were all in town for a wedding and needed a place to stay for three nights prior to relocating to the wedding location. IT WAS PERFECT. A short drive to the beaches and Waimea town center. Secluded - so quiet at night. The backyard and back patio were so wonderful for cocktails before dinner. I must say the highlight was probably the beds - so comfortable! The kitchen was not only fully stocked, but fully stocked with nice products. I can't say enough about this place - it was perfect.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
About the owner: We have lived in Hawaii for almost 30 years and have had the privileged of raising our two children here in Waimea. We are a hotel family, and have been involved in the hospitality industry worldwide most of our lives. We are excited to bring you a really cool experience for you and your 'Ohana! We know the art of hospitality and how important the little things are that make a difference. We want you have a quality experience that you will always remember.
Why the Owner Chose Kamuela (Waimea):
Waimea was voted one of the Top 10 Places to live in the United States by Forbes Magazine 2012. This Waimea home is uniquely situated in one of the town's best locations, at the foothills of the Kohala Mountains on the Sunny Side of Waimea. We love the home because it has some of the best weather on the island and near the beaches and it is centrally located to all the island's activities.
