The charming, sunny Verandah upstairs level flat is centrally located in Hendersonville on a private, multi-home property, close to downtown (only 3.5 miles). Elegantly appointed 2 bedroom home, each bedroom with its own en suite, private bathroom. Spacious rooms, A/C, fully equipped kitchen and upscale furnishings offer guests all the comforts of home, with the added benefit of the home's historic roots. Entrance requires climbing stairs to the upper level. Not suitable for children under the age of 12 or pets.

Anniversary Getaway

We enjoyed our stay at this property close to downtown Hendersonville. There are several great restaurants nearby. It’s about a 35 min drive to Asheville. The rental was very clean and easy to find.

Great location and great space!

Great House and Location

We loved staying at the stone house. It was such a central location for all the hiking during the day and town at night. The veranda was wonderful! We spent 90% of the time we were awake there. We would highly recommend this house.

This property was fantastic; secluded location but only 15 minutes from downtown. Having Elisabeth meet us there with info about the property and recommendations of things to do was a nice surprise. We will definitely stay here again next trip to the mountains.

Fabulous!

This property is gorgeous and very comfortable. I don't think we've ever stayed at a rental that was decorated so beautifully; there were even tasteful Christmas decorations. Everything is as described and exceeded our expectations. The porch is especially nice, and we enjoyed brunch out there. I highly recommend everything about this property and hope to return in the warm weather!

The property was clean, well maintained with a great layout and great amenities.

We rented this property for an extended girls weekend and couldn’t have been more pleased! It was clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The bedrooms were large and each had its own private bath. The large enclosed sunroom was bright, nicely decorated and overlooked snow covered trees. During our visit, a foot of snow fell over about 10 hours. Elisabeth plowed the drive, shoveled the steps, made a path to our car and even cleaned off the car so we didn’t have to. Top notch service and beautiful accommodations. We highly recommend!

Wonderful weekend getaway

We stayed in the Verandah property for the weekend while meeting friends in Asheville for a music concert and it was exactly what we were looking for. We didn't want to stay in a hotel and were hoping to find something a bit more off the beaten path, but close enough to Asheville and the surrounding towns. Elisabeth met us upon check-in and gave us a nice overview of the house and its history, then gave us some great recommendations for things to do in the area while we were in town. Like other reviewers have mentioned, she is very knowledgeable and friendly and the pictures of the house really do not do it justice. We had a wonderful night's sleep both nights and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer! We did learn that she actually has a handful of different rentals available and now we are considering one of her family friendly cabins to bring the kids along for a summer vacation.

A Gem among the Fall Colors

What a perfect place to enjoy a long weekend. Historic and beautifully renovated and decorated, this second floor unit with veranda was perfect for the four of us. We covered a lot of territory, from Biltmore to Flowering Bridge to Hickory Hill. Elisabeth was the perfect hostess. Follow her suggestions for restaurants! Some of the best food I’ve ever had!

Beautifully decorated and maintained

My daughter and I were in the area for a family reunion. We loved the veranda, catching up over a glass of wine or cup of coffee. The beds were very comfortable, and each was a queen with its own en-suite bathroom. The house was very clean. There were lots of good lights, making it nice for reading. The kitchen was small but adequate to prepare a potluck dish for the reunion. Keep in mind that while this is a self-contained unit, it covers the top floor of a very large historic building while another unit covers the bottom floor. We could occasionally hear voices from below. The owner thoughtfully provides white noise machines, so this was never a problem. Just something to be aware of.

As the owner of Brightwaters Vacation Rentals, (several cabins, cottages and the historic Guesthouse) I take great pride in creating a home away from home for my guests and, as a host, I've met a lot of great people. I'm happy to share my knowledge and experience with you when you visit Western North Carolina.

Why they chose this property

Brightwaters, established in 1938, has a celebrated history. Today, the fully renovated flats (Garden level and the upstairs Verandah level) offer guests all of the comforts of an elegant Southern home. Each flat is a complete home - 1200-1500 sq. ft., offering large, airy rooms.

And to celebrate the home's 80th birthday, book 3 nights and get the 3rd night for only $80 through May 24, 2018!

The Brightwaters Guesthouse was originally built in 1938 as an 8 bedroom, 6 bathroom guesthouse. The founder, Samuel Childs, built the Brightwaters Guesthouse and Lodge and Dining Room, as well as 25 cottages on his 400 acres, in the surrounding area. The entire resort was called Brightwaters Estates, and was frequented by guests, primarly from Florida, looking to escape the summer heat and enjoy the cool, mountain air. On the grounds of the Guesthouse, Childs renovated an 1800's one-room schoolhouse to make it the dining hall for guests staying at the Guesthouse and the surrounding cottages.

In the 1970's, the Guesthouse was renovated into 2 flats (one upstairs and one downstairs). Each flat had 2 bedrooms/2 baths, a living room, a dining and a kitchen. And the former, interior staircase was removed.

Today, the Brightwaters Guesthouse takes back it's original name and has been refreshed and restored to it's former glory, exposing the refinished hardwood floors and tongue and groove paneling. The Brightwaters Guesthouse offer guests the opportunity to step back in time and enjoy it's timeless elegance.

Brightwaters: Verandah is a great house for getting away to enjoy the outdoors. Very close to all of the best mountain biking and hiking trails - DuPont, Pisgah, Bent Creek and Mills River.
