Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
This is a very private cabin on a beautiful large 3.5 acre lot. It is in a small community of larger plot mini farms along a secluded section of Stover Creek. This rustic and well maintained chink log cabin is in it's own valley and neighbors are out of view, even in winter months. The large screened porch, with a luxurious hot tub, faces the woods. The relaxing sounds of nature and rushing water will wash away the worries of city life.
Two full bedrooms, large loft and sofa beds provide sleeping for up to 6 adults comfortably. Two large bathrooms and a washer and dryer provide facilities for all guests’ cleaning needs. The kitchen is well appointed, including a large refrigerator, a dishwasher and a full size gas range and stove.
There is Direct TV, phone service and DSL WiFi, a sound system, and central heat and air. The atmosphere from a real wood burning stone fireplace, with a gas starter, makes it feel like camping without 'roughing it.' Firewood is provided.
This wonderful retreat is in the Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area of the Chattahoochee National Forest, but is still only an hour and a half drive from Atlanta.
There are lots fun things to do in this area. Hiking abounds: the Benton MacKaye and the Appalachian Trails heads are about 12 miles away on Springer Mountain, and there are numerous hiking trails close by that lead to several waterfalls, a swinging bridge, and spectacular mountain views. Fishing opportunities in the numerous trout streams and in area mountain lakes are plentiful and cater to all skill levels. The kayaking and tubing opportunities on the Cartecay and Toccoa rivers are very close by and the shuttle services are inexpensive and easy to navigate. More challenging guided white water rafting is a short drive away, as well. Mountain bike trails and horseback riding are also easy to locate and enjoy.
Beautiful downtown Ellijay is about 15 miles away. Ellijay has numerous antique shops and art galleries and small eateries. Ellijay is host to an apple festival in October, while the numerous orchards are open all year long and have tours, some offer hayrides and petting areas for the kids. The city of Blue Ridge is about 25 miles from this cabin. Blue Ridge offers old-fashioned train rides along the Toccoa River and plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy as well. The entire area is rich with history and southern culture and charm.
The mountains of northwest Georgia are not overly touristy or trashy. The locals have character are pleasant and eager to please visitors. Simply driving through this naturally beautiful area is a scenic adventure. Come see for yourself, and I’m sure you’ll have a difficult time keeping this place a secret!

About Eric L Shaw
I am an fly fisherman and hiker and throw pottery which I sell at art festivals in the Atlanta area. Please feel free to ask me for some good fishing areas for your particular skill level or the location for some of my favorite hikes.

Why Eric L Shaw chose Ellijay
This is a very private and special place that relaxes me every time I make that turn off the main road on my way there.
What makes this Cabin unique
I have the creek all to myself and don't have to share, the kitchen is easy to cook in, and the hot tub releases the aches and pains from a good days hiking or fishing in the many area streams filled with fish.

Everything we hoped and more!
This is our second stay. There will definitely be a third. Well worth the drive from Fort Lauderdale. Fully stocked with just about everything you will need besides food and water. Kid's absolutely loved splashing in the creek, hiking the trails and campfires at night. Adult's couldn't get enough of the hot tub. Eric is an amazing host. Highly recommend this cabin and surrounding area. Can't wait for our next visit. Thanks again Eric and Shaw family.
Everything and More!!
My husband and I recently spent 16 glorious March 2018 nights in Eric's Cabin. It was the best yet of any VRBO we have stayed at, this being our 6th. Serenity, and Private, do not do it justice. AND, the creek was the clincher. Our dog, Buddy, was overwhelmed with playing in it, and could not get enough of the surroundings. We came to that area to look for a relocation home, and the town of Ellijay is quaint and friendly. (The shops are diverse, and affordable. Especially the Southern Flare Antiques Mall. )
Eric's cabin is well equipped with all of the necessities, and is overflowing with kindnesses for any age group to dwell there. The Master Bedroom is a gem! Everything luxurious that can be spent on, is there. But the Epitamy of all luxuries, is the porch that houses the HOT TUB.! I could live THERE, and would have, had the temps been a bit more favorable.( 32 ish some mornings). On one WARM morning, my husband and I were in there at 5:30 am, and the sky was loaded with stars, which can be seen from the tub! Then add the sounds of the Cardinals, and the Creek, and you have HEAVEN!!
We give this rental a HIGH 5, and urge you to consider it should you need to unplug. As with any rental, there are downsides, and it too had a few. Cell service is not available, but we had our calls forwarded to the landline, and it was perfect. The Wi-Fi never failed us. There are some steep climbs with the car, so walking was a bit of a challenge, however, eating as much dashboard food as we did traveling from WI, it was a blessing to have those hikes, to warn off the gaining weight!
Because we have chosen Franklin, NC, as our destination relocation community, chances are we will not re-rent this cabin. But I urge you to. It made us comfortable, accommodated, and pampered. Money well spent.
I found the guest book in the pantry cabinet, and in reading what others have said about the cabin, only confirms what I have written here, and also said in my entry in that diary. It was also apparent, that the travelers staying there, think highly of Eric, and do little things to help his business stay a success. As did I. I could not get enough of the balmy temps, some days being 71+ outside, ( WI was -2 when we left), so I raked his whole yard. It kept me and Buddy in the beautiful surroundings, listening to the creek and birds!
Thank you, Jerry and Elly, and Buddy, from WI.
Peaceful and clean!
This place is perfect for a getway from it all. Far enough away from city life but close enough to all the beaty northern Georgia has to offer. Eric was a great host and checked in by phone to make sure we had everything we needed for our stay. We fell in love with the place the first day and cant wait to come back!
This cabin is absolutely lovely and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked and organized. Basic kitchen needs were available. (salt, pepper, other frequently use condiments, laundry detergent, dish soap, paper towels, etc) The host is gracious, available, helpful and he made it so easy to get settle in and begin relaxing instead of having to run to the store a thousand times for each forgotten item. He even provided directions to local attractions. The setting is gorgeous and it was convenient for our Appalachian Trail send off gathering, being about half way between Amicalola Falls State Park and Springer Mountain.
Perfect getaway and well equipped for families. We will be back . Beautiful cabin.
MUCH BETTER THAN DESCRIBED!
We loved the cabin! Was really well equipped with everything we needed. Loved the hot tub. The cabin is beautiful. The pictures do not do it justice. We loved our time here and would certainly come again.
The only thing I would change would be to bring my own firewood next time. The firewood provided must have been cut recently because it's still very alive and wet. Because it's not dried out it tends to fill the house with smoke whenever the indoor fireplace is used (even if you have the gas on full blast the whole time). Because of this we didn't use the fireplace very much.
That being said, many cabins don't even supply wood so that's a pretty small thing!
Overall, an awesome experience!
Thank you for the nice review. I have been concerned with the last load of wood I received and have been suggesting a mix of the well seasoned wood on the side and near the bottom of the pile with the rather green hardwood on the top to keep the fire flaming. Sorry you had a problem with the fireplace I have always provided wood because I thought I had a good source, but I will need to find a better vender perhaps.
Ellijay is host to an apple festival in October, but some of the numerous orchards are open all year long and have tours; some offer hayrides for the kids. Old-fashioned train rides along the river or a visit to an ancient American Indian site can make for a relaxing time in the mountains
