Ocean View #1257, located high up on the 12th floor of the Whaler, offers amazing vistas of the Pacific Ocean, Kaanapali Beach, the neighboring island of Lanai, and the West Maui Mountains. The spacious floor plan has 1118 square feet, including a 213 square foot full-width lanai.

What makes this One Bedroom - Two Bathroom unit different from many others at the Whaler? 1) Its top floor location gives an unobstructed superior view of the ocean, beach, golf courses, and majestic mountains, and 2) Its location is the closest to the ocean you can get without paying the extra price for direct ocean front. Unit 1257 is located on the south sunny side of Tower 2. Relax in the cool island breezes on the comfortable Tropitone outdoor furniture and watch the whales, in season, right from your private lanai. This is the ideal setting for sipping MaiTais, sharing a meal, and listening to live Hawaiian music from below. Although you may never want to leave, you are only steps away from beach activities, shopping, and restaurants--or plan fun sightseeing excursions around the island! Fall asleep each night with the gentle sounds of the ocean.

This deluxe condo features a light and airy seaside décor and many upgrades. The kitchen is been completely equipped with new granite countertops, fresh flooring, wood cabinets, recessed lighting, and all the amenities. The living room and bedroom have been recently carpeted and have mirrored walls and floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize your enjoyment of Maui's exceptional beauty. Both the king-size bed and queen-size Sico (murphy) wall bed provide a restful night's sleep. The full-size marble bathrooms have also been refurbished with new cabinetry and tropical décor. There's also a free washer and dryer inside the condo. If you just can not leave business behind, our unit has an office area, which is laptop-ready with free high-speed internet connection, fax, copier, and printer. Even a complimentary in-room safe is included.

This beautiful one bedroom, two bath home accommodates four people. The unit is entirely Non-Smoking, including electronic cigarettes and vaping, both inside and out. The Whaler does not allow pets. Check-in time is 4 PM (or earlier if ready) and check-out time is 11 AM.


All linens are provided. Check-out cleaning is included free of charge. Additional cleaning during your stay can be arranged for a nominal fee.

Deposit Information:


A $1400 deposit is needed to secure your reservation. The balance is due 60 days prior to arrival. The damage deposit is fully refundable upon satisfactory inspection of the unit's condition following your stay. Hawaii's non-smoking law is firmly enforced by the condo association and violation will result in forfeiture of deposit. Personal check, credit card, bank transfer, money order, certified check or cashier's check accepted or payment through VRBO.


Cancellations received 60 days or more prior to arrival will be completely refunded, less $50 plus credit card processing fees. Cancellations received less than 60 days prior to arrival will be subject to a 3 night minimum charge. Should a reservation be cancelled less than 30 days prior to arrival, or for rentals inbetween December 17 and January 1, refunds will be made for those days that are re-rented, less $50 plus credit card processing fees.

What a wonderful place to spend a holiday. The unit is clean, beautifully decorated, and has amazing views of the ocean -- and for that matter, the green slopes of the West Maui mountains too.

Small thing to be aware of: the balcony is right above a restaurant, so when they fire up their grills the air can get smoky. In that case, don't open both balcony doors, because the draft will pull in the smoke. You can still open one door, by a crack, if you like to listen to the beach sounds, and no smoke will come in.

Bigger thing to be aware of: when we checked in at the front desk, they charged us a room rate for the whole stay, even though we had already paid through VRBO. Apparently some of their units are rented out directly by the owner, while others are rented out through the resort, so they got confused? I didn't pay attention since I knew we had to pay the resort fee, so I just let them run my card. Once I notified them of the mistake they were friendly and fixed it, but it still took a week to release the hold. So be careful when you check in, and keep an eye on your credit card balance.

Anyway, this isn't the fault of the property owner, or VRBO -- so it's still five stars for them! We'll be back.

Why leave the room?

Very friendly and responsive owners. The listing pictures are accurate. The furniture and mattresses are quite comfortable and the AC unit works great (although we preferred sleeping with the sliding doors open, the AC off, with the natural ocean breezes). We loved the reclining chairs, with a view way high above the Whaler Village which gives you some soft sounds of island music in the evenings (which we also loved). The Maui mountains are to the left, with the ocean, beaches, catamarans, and parasailing to your right. Bring your binoculars, lounge on the lanai and people watch all day long. It's never boring. With a washer/dryer in the unit, all you need to do is stock up the fridge and relax. Or you can use the free Wifi and make your friends jealous by posting on Facebook or Snap Chat pictures from the balcony (we did that a lot). We are looking forward to returning!

Perfect for a small family!

We loved this condo. It was clean, pretty, and well stocked for cooking meals in. Mike and Elaine were so sweet, just a pleasure to deal with. We spent a lot of time on the deck, looking at the water and all the activity down below at Whaler's Village. The size was perfect for me, my husband, and our daughter, who slept on the comfortable Murphy bed. My daughter and I even got pedicures at the salon on-site and had a lovely time with the ladies working there. The only caveat I have is that the pool is small and you're not allowed to use any kind of ball in the pool (we like to throw a little pool football around), so if your family are active in the water and used to big pools like the ones at hotels nearby, then this may not be the property for you.

Top Floor view

The view from this condo is amazing. We could sit for hours on the lanai just watching the whales. The sunsets were fabulous. This was our second year at this condo and plan to come back again next year. Thank you for sharing your place with us.

Early Summer Trip on Kaanapali Beach (The Whaler)

Very memorable trip to Maui and The Whaler. This particular condo was just what we had hoped for. The condo itself was very clean, comfortable beds, carpeting seemed new, good a/c unit, plenty of cooking gadgets (including blender), beach chairs, simple boogie boards, couple of water noodles, and amazing views of Kaanapali Beach and West Maui Mountains. The full length sliding glass doors open very wide with screens to the lanai. This made for a very open airy feel when desired. Everything was as advertised.

A couple of helpful hints include: garbage chute near the elevator and allowing visiting friends to park at The Whaler after informing guard shack (no cost for them to park near the tennis courts).

Also, please do not under estimate the power of the waves at Kaanapali when the surf is high. Our daughter passed out from having the wind knocked out of her while riding a boogie board in a late breaking wave. Good low key beach and calmer waves on the other side of Black Rock when surf is high elsewhere. However, surf is usually relatively calm in front of the Whaler.

Activities included a trip to Iao Valley (very relaxing and beautiful), Nakalele Blowhole (short trail might be kind of steep for some especially after rain), golfing at Kaanapali Royal (nice course), surf lessons in Lahaina (safe and very fun), and lots of time on the beach. We only used the pool for the hot tub. Dinners included take out pizza from Roundtable, (2) BBQ's, Hula Grill, Leilanis (great Ono Fish Tacos), and Cheeseburger in Paradise.
