The Mermaid's House:

The Mermaid's House is the perfect West Marin getaway. Located on the waterfront of pristine Tomales Bay, it is an ideal spot to relax and unwind. The house is literally built out over the water, so there is nothing between you and the picturesque Point Reyes National Seashore as you gaze out through the giant glass windows.

The Mermaid's House offers amazing views of the abundant birdlife that inhabits Tomales Bay and it is not uncommon to spot a seal or two swimming by to say, "hello." The house, nautically themed, creates the illusion that you are traveling aboard a lavish ship, without the seasickness of course. The spacious interior of the house has an air of tasteful class while maintaining a cozy rustic feel.

Complete with a grassy front yard, large deck with a hot tub, and its own pier, the Mermaid's House is also well equipped for outdoor living. Whether you spend your time in West Marin hiking in the park, kayaking on the bay, or just relaxing, the Mermaid's House is the perfect setting to enjoy some world famous oysters, have a drink, and look out across the bay as the sun sets.

We love staying at the Mermaid House. It’s very comfortable, well-appointed, a great location, quiet, and easy access to a couple great restaurants in Marshall, Point Reyes Station and the National Seashore.

As usual, Karen was very welcoming and informative on check in and out procedures. We were there over Christmas and much to our surprise there was a fully lit and decorated tree to welcome us along with Christmas decorations around the house. It doesn't get any better than that!

Our Happy Place on Tomales Bay

Another delightful stay. The new hot tub was terrific. So peaceful sitting in the living room looking out at the bay. Many pelicans flew by this time!

We spent a fantastic week at the Admiral's quarters. Swimming and paddleboarding from the dock, soaking in the hot tub, enjoying the view from the deck and the house. So much to do nearby. Great meals at the Marshall Store and Tony’ Seafood. And cooking at the house worked well.Karen was a responsive and helpful host. We look forward to coming back.

Relaxing and Reflective Stay

We had a wonderful stay and was both rejuvenating and reinvigorating - and all that we wanted to "get away" from it all. All amenities, views of the bay, proximity to cycling, hiking, kayaking, restaurants - all were perfect to enjoy Nature's Bounty. Owners are wonderful and responsive. A Perfect Getaway

This is a beautifully maintained bay front cottage. Gorgeous views, great/comfortable furnishings, and close to Hog Island Oysters! The hot tub is also perfect for two and a wonderful way to wrap up the day. Close to lots of good trails, kayaking and eye-popping drives. It truly is a perfect getaway!

Return to Among the Best of VRBO Rentals Ever

Stayed here multiple times over the years and this is among the best consistently of all those VRBOs we've experienced. Absolutely first class property, location, and hosts. It simply doesn't get any better short of owning the property yourself! On second thought, having owned a VRBO rental for 20 years, renting this property is better than owning one!

A great getaway

This was an excellent getaway for our anniversary. Beautiful views looking up and down the bay. Sitting right on the water, looking west, we had great afternoons on the deck. Located near good eating spots, and a short drive to all the myriad of hikes. A well appointed house with all the amenities. Fred is a responsive and thoughtful host.

Securing the property was easy, the owners provided very clear information, and the place was as advertised. It poured the entire time we were there but the house was a cozy place to ride out the storm.

Tranquility in Marshall

The Mermaids House is the perfect place to enjoy Pt. Reyes and all it offers. After a day of amazing hiking, coming back to the house to watch the sunset and sleep with the lapping waves is what life should be all about. It was an awesome base and i look forward to returning soon.

Ideal Getaway

We spent three nights at the Admiral’s Quarters. It is a great place to stay while enjoying the Pt. Reyes/Tomales Bay area. The location is close to many attractions and has a beautiful view of the bay, particularly at sunset..The interior is charming and includes everything you need for a relaxing stay. The hosts, Fred and Karen, are good communicators and a pleasure to work with. This was our third stay, and we look forward to returning.

Wonderful Stay

My wife and I spent our 40th anniversary at the Mermaid House. Upon walking in the door, my wife cried out loud about how beautiful the place was. I know we sat for hours each day talking and looking out the window. We like to cook meals, and the kitchen has everything we need. We could not have been happier. Before we left, my wife stated we would return here someday.

What is there to say about this home that hasn’t already been said? It’s truly a little piece of paradise and you couldn’t get closer to the water if you were on a boat. Comfy bed too! This was our second time here and we’ll be back again in the future.

We’ve enjoyed the Admirals Quarters once again. This time the weather was perfect and after hiking Point Reyes we were able to enjoy the deck listening to the tide come in. When it couldn’t get any better a flock of pelicans zoomed right by us. A few dozen oysters at Tony’s, back to the unit, turn up the fire. Doesn’t get any better than this!

A wonderful find

Wow, this place is great! It's peaceful, scenic, and inviting. The apartment is so well decorated and it has everything you would need. The cute village of Pt Reyes is close by for your shopping needs. The only small negative is the shared bedroom wall with the other apartment is very thin so you can hear and understand what the other people are saying. Hopefully the other guests are as quiet and respectful as mine were during my visit.

Wondeful Home / Beautiful Location

We have stayed in the Marshall area serveral times. The Admiral's Quarters was the nicest home we have stayed at, by far. The decorations and overall quality of the home were exceptional. My only (very minor) gripe was that the hot tub cycled throughout the night. I am a light sleeper, so it would sometimes wake me as it is outside of the bedroom window. But, I would not let that keep us from booking again. Overall, highly recommended!

I've never stayed in a house so beautiful. so much love and care has gone into the place, with beautiful nautical artwork. It feels like being on an ocean liner as it's right over the water. I brought my mom here for her 80th birthday in lieu of a trip to Ireland we had to cancel. The area has so much of the feeling of Ireland. She was so happy and loved the house as well. We will surely be back.The owners were lovely as well and Fred was prompt in responding to a question I had. thank you for our magical stay. Alexis

A time to relax

It is a little off the beaten track as Hwy 1 winds down the coast, but you won't be disappointed once you arrive! The house is divided into two rentals, but they are totally separate. The views from the Admiral's Quarters over the bay are terrific and the rental is built and furnished in an authentic nautical theme complete with portholes and ship's equipment. If you love the sea, you will feel very much at home here. The kitchen needs a little work but has a plentiful supply of dishes and cooking accessories and is furnished with one of the best-stocked pantries we have seen in a VRBO (and we have stayed in many). This place was very quiet and the bed comfortable, which made for very nice sleeping. All and all, we had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay, a chance to eat some great seafood and explore a part of the coast that was new to us.
