Beautiful two bedroom waterfront home on a crystal clear Michigan lake
Loon Lodge is a secluded lakefront home just minutes from the bustle of Traverse City. It is perfect for families and couples looking to get away and relax.
The house is right on beautiful Long Lake, one of Northern Michigan's most popular lakes for fishing, swimming and boating. The house has a dock and a large deck looking over the water. Loon Lodge is very secluded; the nearest neighbor is more than one hundred yards away, hidden by the trees. The property has more than 200 feet on the water.
The house features two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are two queen beds, two single beds and two day beds. The living room is large and spacious, with a cathedral ceiling. The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped. The house has hardwood floors throughout. Outside there is a new gas grill and fire pit.
There is a canoe for your use, along with paddles and life jackets. You can also bring a boat; we provide a mooring and there is a public boat launch across the lake. There are public tennis courts within walking distance. There are also islands in the lake that you can explore, many with lovely beaches.
The area has much to offer. The house is fifteen minutes from Traverse City, a lively and pretty town with shopping and festivals. Interlochen Music Camp, the Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Platte River, and Michigan's finest wine country are all close by.
Please note that we rent Saturday to Saturday during the peak summer season. Shorter fall rentals are possible.

About Tim Calkins
My grandparents purchased land on Long Lake almost 100 years ago. The property is still owned by the family. We also own the nearby woods and preserve the area. It is a unique and special retreat. We rent the property a few weeks each year to help cover the rather large Michigan property tax bills!
Tim Calkins purchased this House in 2000
Why Tim Calkins chose Traverse City
Loon Lodge feels like a remote retreat, nestled deep in the woods. In reality, it is just 15 minutes from lively Traverse City.
What makes this House unique
Our home has three very special features. First, it is right on Long Lake, a spectacular northern Michigan lake. The water is clear and the sunsets are beautiful. The lake is great for swimming and boating. Second, the house is very private. It is situated in the deep woods on a huge lot with lots of lakefront. Third, the house is near Traverse City, so while it feels like you are really away from it all in the deep Michigan woods, you can get to a store quickly if you run out of flour or want to go to a movie.

Wonderful location, beautiful lake
Comfortable, well stocked home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Great Place to Experience Rustic Leelanau County
This was our 30th anniversary and our experience was just what we wanted: an old style cabin on a lake tucked in the woods. My wife's family had one similar to this one many years ago on another lake in Leelanau county.
The dirt road to the cabin is a little tight, but becomes routine quickly. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are large. The patio over the boat house is great to view the lake during the day and stars at night. The propane furnace and ceiling registers warm the cabin quickly (only needed it one night). There is a wood burning fireplace with heatilator also.
This would be a great place for summer vacation also. Bring a boat for skiing and cruising. The lake is large. Seaplanes easily land and take off (always a nice experience to see).
Matt & Barb
This place is as described on the site. Nice place in a great location. Even though there are houses relatively nearby the feeling is you're secluded in the woods. The patio is cool to sit at as it has a good view of the lake. The swimming is excellent. My two sons and I we're in the water every day. We had 4 adults and 2 kids staying and it was very comfortable. If you haven't been to Traverse City, it's a great "small" city to visit and is close to the house. My tip- The directions provided are very helpful so keep them available and with you during your stay. Also, you really do have to try Moomers - Wow.
Wonderful stay at Loon Lodge!
We had such an amazing time at Loon Lodge! Our kids (almost 4 & 6) absolutely loved the cottage and the lake. Loon Lodge is very secluded and great for kids and dogs to play around without worrying about traffic. We brought sandals that the kids wore in the water since the rocks can be slippery and they did just fine. We also really enjoyed snacks and dinner on the outdoor patio. The bedroom setup with one queen and one twin in each room worked well for us with little kids since we could separate them (one with grandparents and one with us) so they fell asleep faster. The rooms are also very big for a cottage. The road can be a bit hard to find the first few times, but it also helps with the seclusion. We look forward to visiting again!!
I'm delighted you had a good stay and hope you can make it back next year.
Wonderful cottage getaway
It is a wonderful setting as it is both remote (tucked away in the woods by the lake) and close to all the modern conveniences of the city. The cottage is very cozy and the outdoor seating is a real plus. Having access to a canoe is a lot of fun. Overall, it is the perfect woodland get away .
Nicely equipped. Close to Traverse. Great location on the lake.
Northern Michigan is a vacation paradise. Traverse City is a charming town with a cute shopping district as well as all the usual larger retailers. The area is full of beautiful inland lakes, in addition to spectacular Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes. At the house, you can swim in the clear waters of Long Lake, lay in the sun, paddle around the lake (canoe provided!) and hike. There are five islands in Long Lake; they are all public and free, so perfect for exploring and picnics. Long Lake has great fishing, too. There are many attractions near by. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park is just twenty minutes away. The Platte and Boardman Rivers are great for canoeing. There are wineries, bike trails, Leland (a cute fishing village), hiking trails and breweries. It is a wonderful area.
