About Mary Lee Treter

My husband and I have been vacationing in Traverse City for many years. Doug came up with his family as a child every year growing up and then after we married we brought our children and now their children as well. We have enjoyed many countless hours of Pure Michigan pleasure with our immediate and extended families and now we want to share the beauty of this amazing area with our guests. No matter what the season there is always something for everyone in Traverse City, Michigan.

Mary Lee Treter purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Mary Lee Treter chose Northwest

We chose this home on this property because it connects to the family property we vacationed at with our children for so many years. We were blessed to have been given the opportunity to purchase this beautiful piece of heaven on earth 7 years ago and love the peace and quiet it provides.

What makes this cabin unique

Since purchasing our property we have completely renovated the 'barn' now known as HARRISON'S HIDEAWAY. It has a warm and cozy feeling when you enter and you'll immediately feel calm and relaxed when you look outside at the beauty of nature that surrounds you. Yet you're only minutes away from doing any of your favorite activities like shopping, golfing, snowmobiling, skiing, tubing, biking, fishing, gambling, swimming, boating, sightseeing and so much more! Perfect for a Family Vacation, Girls Getaway, 55+, Honeymoon or Romantic Getaway.

The best vacation you had...

  • 5 of 5

We lived in Harrison`s Gateway in July 2017,durring this time of year the water in the Lake Leelanau is very warm about 74 F ant there are lots of cherries on the trees.Mary Lee and Doug are the best owners that we have ever met....Mary Lee warmly welcomed us and took care of every little thing so that he could wonderfuly spend our vactaion. We had wood to the fireplace, quiet, greenery, song of the birds, rabbits, deer, wild turkey and privacy. If you want to feel happy choose this place. The Lake Michigan in July is warm about 70 F and you are able to swim, the water is see through. What a pleasure swimming in the lake.We were lucky that Mary Lee and Doug took us an a boat cruise on the lake.Sleeping Bear Dunes are fantastic.Orchards full of fruit cause you to be happy and full,no mosquitoes !! and the house has AC with a fully developed kitchen. In a small village in Sutton Bay they have the best ice cream in the area.Around are woods, meadows full of flowers and 100% relaxation.Imagine when you wake up and walk barefoot on the grass. The clean, the beds comfortable and a large TV for good evening or fireplace with family. If you love nature you will love Harrison Gateaway. For sure we will come back because we fell in love with this place. You could used water shoes for the lake.We had and it work greats.

Great place to hide away!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here and thoroughly enjoyed both the hospitality (impeccable!) and the local scenery (also impeccable!). The fire pit was a big hit with the kids as were the kayaks on Lake Leelanau. The cottage itself was clean and fit our family nicely. The proximity to the all the attractions of the Leelanau Peninsula and Traverse City lead to all sorts of fun and adventure. Altogether it was a wonderful place to stay!

Just lovely!!

  • 5 of 5

We just enjoyed a wonderfully refreshing week in Harrison's Hideaway in the middle of August 2016! The reviews were right on: Mary Lee definitely has the gift of hospitality, and we experienced it first hand! Is there anything quite as yummy as a warm loaf of homemade bread? And that was there waiting for us when we arrived! The cottage is in a lovely setting, beside beautiful Lake Leelanau, spotlessly clean and neat, and a vase of fresh flowers on the table was a lovely surprise when we walked in the door! We had some wonderful daytrips around the area, enjoying the vineyards, orchards, charming communities, quaint villages and State Parks in near-perfect weather! When we needed a boost in the WiFi service, so we could communicate with clients back home, Mary Lee even was able to get that arranged for us. Thanks Mary Lee for all your many kindnesses! We feel as though we have made a new friend!!

Great Vacation - July 2015

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Harrison's Hideaway during the last week of July — the perfect time of year to appreciate the lush green setting with plenty of birds and bunnies. The cottage was clean and cozy with all the amenities we could ask for for a comfortable and relaxing vacation, including a welcome gift of fresh bread and flowers. A very short and scenic walk to the shore of Lake Leelenau, Harrison’s Hideaway is far enough away from Traverse City to afford us the feel of being in a remote locale, yet just a 15-30 minute drive to TC, Leland, Sutton's Bay and Interlochen. Mary Lee, the owner, is extremely pleasant, helpful and thoughtful and really strived to make our stay a pleasant one. We especially enjoyed spending quiet early mornings drinking coffee on the back porch as we planned the day before us. By the time we left, we felt that we had experienced a true vacation in a very special home.

A truly wonderful and magical place for families

  • 5 of 5

Harrison's Hideaway sits on a lovely piece of land with quiet, peaceful surroundings. It was wonderful being so close to the water, enjoying beautiful sunsets, and seeing more stars than we thought possible. The home was well-stocked and very clean. The owner was delightful and did all she could to make our stay even better - from baking fresh bread to giving out spot-on recommendations for dining options and trips with our children. The location made it very easy to get to downtown Traverse City and other delightful beach-side towns, as well as being it's own adventure with making smores at the fire pit and swimming/boating from the dock. This was one of the best vacations we have had in years. We will definitely be back!

The property was impressively clean and the owners were wonderful at making sure our stay was comfortable and convenient. The beautiful rolling hills leading to the water below were a great setting for a relaxing getaway. I would recommend this property to anyone.
