Just a short walk to the ocean!
This ca. 1900 cottage, beautifully situated on a pond ringed by wildflowers is only 3/10 of a mile to the working docks at West Point. There, kayaks and other hand carried boats may be launched from a small public beach that is also open to wading, swimming, exploring, and the Atlantic Ocean. The pond itself, between ocean on one side and a tidal marsh on the other, is home to turtles, frogs and dragonflies and an attraction for birds and butterflies.
A full kitchen with large dining room, a very cozy den well stocked with books and board games, a sun porch and a living room with a piano and plenty of comfortable seating make up the downstairs. Three upstairs bedrooms sleep six comfortably. Monitor heat is available for chilly nights or enjoy a warm-up by the gas stove. A gas grill is available for picnics on the lawn, or sit around the firebowl for stories under the stars.
Nearby is Totman Cove, Phippsburg's lovely private beach for residents, taxpayers and their guests (that means you!). Just a couple miles away is the Sebasco Harbor Resort with a pub, a restaurant and a seaside golf course open to the public. Hike the nearby nature trails at Morse Mountain, spend a day at Popham State Park, or explore the civil-war era Fort Popham.
The charming city of Bath (only twenty minutes from the cottage) should not be missed with its rich shipbuilding tradition, and a thriving Main Street (called Front Street) with a number of diverse boutiques, antique shops and some of our favorite coffee houses and restaurants. Enjoy Bath's history and culture by visiting the Maine Maritime Museum and the Patton Free Library. Take in a concert, workshop or exhibit at the Chocolate Church Arts Center.
Head north for an easy day trip to Wiscasset (the 'Prettiest Village in Maine') Boothbay Harbor or Rockland. Or head south to Freeport (home of L.L. Bean and numerous outlet stores) or to the historic Old Port in Portland. Or stay close to home for some of the best seafood around.
We enjoy the 'away from it all' feeling our cottage gives us and we think you will too!

Why Owner chose Phippsburg
My husband grew up in Maine so having a rental house in Maine is ALMOST as nice as living there. Some day we will. For now, we'll enjoy our cottage and share it with you May through October.
What makes this Cottage unique
We love the fact that the location of the house makes day trips to the north or the south quite doable. But we're also contented just staying home with a good book or board game. It's a very easy going place.

shabby-chic coastal cottage loaded with amenities and close to Maine's best!
This adorable cottage was full of charm and was vibrantly decorated with unique coastal antiques and finds. There was plenty of space for the whole family to get comfortable, both inside and out... I really enjoyed the small sun porch first thing in the morning. We slept very well on their comfortable mattresses and with Maine's cool August's nights. We put up our own screen house so we were able to enjoy the peaceful pond view at breakfast and dinner time free of mosquitoes (although they weren't that bad without it.) The cottage even had a grill and a large portable fire pit available for outdoor fires. The mud room was perfect place to store all of our beach and hiking gear. There was a shed where we were able to lock up our bikes, as well. The cottage was shocked with the amenities of home that make vacationing in a cottage enjoyable and convenient: dishwasher, linens, towels, iron, small TV, games and more! The washer and dryer were VERY useful, too! They thought of it all!
The location was close to so many sights and activities. We enjoyed taking morning hikes on local nature trails, scenic bike rides and going to Totman Cove right down the street. What a great little secluded beach that was perfect for young children and dogs. In the afternoons we would head to the beautiful Popham Beach, which is free with the Maine State Park pass they provided. The owners provided a wonderful welcome packet and there are guides, brochures and maps at the cottage for those looking for some ideas of where and what to do in the area and beyond.
This area is very special and can create many wonderful family memories. My family has been vacationing on this peninsula every summer since I was a baby. Now, my husband, toddler, dog and I have ventured out to find a cottage that fits our family's needs and wants.... we found it here! We are looking forward to vacationing here for the years to come and making our own wonderful Maine memories!
This cottage is in a wonderful location: walking distance to many ocean views. Close to numerous beaches and fun places to visit. The cottage was very clean and has everything one could need for a fun Maine vacation. The owners were very helpful and full of great ideas of places to explore. The cottage was comfortable for our family of four and we are eager to return next year.
A beautiful and relaxing retreat, that has all of the comforts of home and is close to many activities. Thank you for one of our family's best vacations. We look forward to coming back again this Summer!
