Kailua is a friendly town of almost 40,000 located on the beautiful northeast shore of Oahu. It is loved for its many beaches and accessible off-shore islands. It is only a 25-minute scenic drive to the airport, Honolulu, and Waikiki. Nearby sites include Sea Life Park, Sandy Beach, Waimanamo, The Blow Hole, Haunauma Bay, and the North Shore.
The beautiful two-mile stretch of sparkling Kailua Beach and adjoining Lanikai have been rated tops among America’s best beaches. Surf Shorebreak, swim with the green sea turtles, kayak or sail to one of the secluded offshore islands and maybe spot the whales breech offshore. It does not get any better than this!

I love Kailua Beach! I grew up in this charming community and appreciate it more every day. My dad was the local Watchmaker/Jeweler and my mom a dynamic Real Estate Agent. They are still happily living together just a few blocks away. Having traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Caribbean and the Pacific I feel blessed to have seen many beautiful places and stay in some fabulous resorts. Having been a vacation home host for 20 years now, I am inspired to constantly improve on our idealic surroundings and to continue to share this dream location with a few happy people from all over the world. Referrals are gladly furnished upon request.
Monica purchased this house in 1996
We strive to be a beautiful and unique beachfront location. I hope never to leave this lovely property, and this great community. I find great joy in being able to share our dream home with a few adventuresome folks from all over this wonderful world.
This is a one of a kind dream home and you will be so happy you stayed with us here!
We have stayed 6 of 8nights with friends in two units. (2couples)
We have enjoyed meal together at the dining in the large unit.
In Kaiula we stayed 3 houses, but here is the best.
Especialy we loved the buthroom in the small unit.We could soak in plenty of hot water. Only one small thing ..... Laundry room was located in the garage. It is more comfortable if it is inside of the room.
Monica and her husband are nice and helpful.
We loved this place very much.
Monica see you next year again!
It was a staying in paradise. We stayed as a family of 5 in both apartments for a week. It was perfect for us. The photos give a good impression of the house and beach, but in reality it is absolutely beautiful and much more nicer!!! ( @ Monica, you may add new photos ;0)).
There s nothing to complain on. Monica and her husband are lovely hosts. We have had everything we needed. The house is perfectly located. It is easy to get to Kailua beaches, Kailua town and a good starting point for any further activities and excursions. For us Kailua has got the most beautiful beach on Oahu, on our trips we visited the main beaches on the island, but we were always happy to return to Kailua. Monica, thanks for a great stay. We will come back, that s sure !!!!
LOVED our stay at this beautiful Kailua beach house for or 30th wedding anniversary. We stayed in the smaller unit which was perfect for my husband and I. Full kitchen, separate bedroom, living room and perfect bathroom for sandy beach goers :) The owner Monica and her husband are super nice people who were accessible if we had any questions. It was secluded, private and perfect. Just open the sliding door, walk across the beautiful backyard and you are on the most beautiful beach in Oahu. Can't wait to go back!! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
This property was fabulous! Our visit involved an event in Honolulu to which my wife had to drive back and forth a few times. This property in Kailua is only 25 minutes to where we needed to go in Honolulu, so very accessible, and it allowed us to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We stayed in the "Bay Suite", the smaller one of two rental suites available in Monica's house. My wife and I stayed along with a friend of mine. There is a bedroom with I believe a King bed, and then a wide sofa that my friend stayed on in the living room. The cool thing is that the bathroom is separate from the bedroom, so each of us had unfettered access to the bathroom, adjacent to the bedroom. There is a full kitchen fully stocked with everything we needed. There is a toaster, but no oven or toaster oven - we didn't need them anyway.
The backyard was so beautiful, and you can walk out the unit in barefeet, across the soft grass, straight onto the beach in back. Beach chairs are available for use, along with boogie boards if needed.
There is an outdoor shower, or a hose you can use if you just want to wash sand off your feet and legs, and the bathroom has a shower, and big jacuzzi tub. The unit has a low maintenance stone floor which is really nice. The bedroom and living room have these nice large ceiling fans, which may come in handy but we hardly needed them with the breeze flowing through the unit when you open the sliding glass door and window jalousies.
The other nice thing is there is a Safeway about a mile away, easily accessible where we could get everything we needed to stock the kitchen.
The beach area is all sandy, so great for just walking out into the waves to frolick. For snorkeling we would head over to Lanikai or drive to some other area with corals.
For the most part it was a pretty quiet area of the Kailua beach away from the more populated sections.
There is room to park one car per rental unit, and the listing mentions a compact car.
We had rented a midsize SUV, which was able to fit, although it was a little tight. We didn't have any problem though, but you probably don't want to bring a larger vehicle there.
We had a really good time and the rental unit met and exceeded all expectations.
Second time at Monica's beautiful house. Have stayed in each unit, and each one is spectacular! So here's the scoop:
1. stunning property. Go to sleep hearing the waves! Modern, clean, comfortable apartments with great kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms. Each unit can easily accommodate 2 to 3 people. And if you need to sleep an extra person, comfortable couches/foldouts in the living area. There is tons of privacy.
2. A lovely green yard with lots of benches and places to sit, in which to relax, which leads to...
3. Kailua beach! This has got to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! Soft sand, warm water, stunning sunrises, long wonderful walks or runs, NEVER crowded. This is all the way down at the other end of the beach from Kailua State Park, where it can get a little busy - but even there, its a universe away from Honolulu. You literally can walk out of your living room, across a green grassy lawn and be on the beach!
3. Beach activities: Monica provides towels, chairs, umbrella boogie boards. All you bring is the sunscreen and the good book!
4. Great location: easy to get into Kailua (although walkable, a car is pretty essential). Frankly, no need to ever go to Honolulu but if you happen to have two foodie kids, its a quick 20 -30 minutes over the hill. Literally 25 minutes to Honolulu Airport via H3. S
4. Lots of great places in Kailua: great food, smoothies, poke, fro-yo, farmers markets
5. Monica is a wonderful host! Totally friendly, energetic, accommodating and engaging. Tons of Aloha! Always has helpful hints if desired.
The only downside is that you have to leave at some point! Cannot recommend this spot more enthusiastically!!!
Let me cut to the chase: This is the place you want to rent on Oahu! I have been to Oahu many times. My husband lived there for several years. We know the island well, and have finally found the perfect place to stay. After spending hours looking at VRBOs online (most of them were too expensive or just depressing) I found Monica's house. It is fantastic! The location is ideal - right on the beach with a gorgeous stretch of lawn between you and the beach to provide just enough privacy. For those of you who aren't familiar with the different parts of Oahu, Kailua is on the lush and far less developed windward side of the island. It has a real "south pacific" vibe to it, with little surf shops and cafes, and the most gorgeous mountains you've ever seen as your backdrop. Kailua beach itself is spectacular. No high-rises. And so many things nearby.
The Details: There are two units for rent on the ground floor of the house. The owners occupy the second floor of the house. The units have been designed very thoughtfully so that the patios are private from each other. Other than saying "hi" to your neighbor, you probably won't even know they're there. Yet if you were a small family or two couples, renting both units would be ideal. Privacy and proximity. We stayed in the larger of the two units and loved it. Natural flagstone floors, a big living room with a fantastic window seat/daybed. The kitchen is large (no dishwasher, but that is no problem) and there is a really nice built in table/nook. The sliding door and windows have built in stops/locks that allow you to sleep with everything open yet feel very secure (not that there is a crime problem, but coming from a big city I wouldn't normally dream of sleeping on the ground floor with windows and doors open). Having that ocean breeze all night is heaven! The bedroom is big with dressers, closet space and a very big bathroom. Multiple ceiling fans keep things super-comfortable when the tradewinds are still. Double doors from the bedroom can be opened up so you can see the view from your bed. All so very well planned. And Monica is the perfect host. Finally, the pictures are nice but they don't do the place justice. For the price of a decent hotel room you can have a paradise escape at this VRBO! Oh, and no loud partiers allowed - which is fantastic! This is a nice quiet place for people who want the same.
