About Don Rucker

We live in Summerville, South Carolina. But, the sweet spot for us is Maggie Valley, North Carolina.

Don Rucker purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Don Rucker chose Smoky Mountains

Terri and I wanted a great view without having to drive up a mountain road to enjoy it. We ride a Harley Davidson so having a paved access road is very important.

What makes this cabin unique

Soco Mountain View!! Conveniently located near the Blue Ridge Parkway and the National Park.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful stay at the Bear Den. It was the perfect get away for our 10 year wedding Anniversary. We loved the comfy bed & couch & giant TV. We also enjoyed the hottub which relaxed our muscles after a full day of skiing. Thank you for sharing your home on VRBO. Keren & Michael P.S. We enjoyed all the pictures too! You are so artistic!

The Bear's Den was just right for our family of 5. The porch and swimg were great.

We enjoyed the hot tub after a day of hiking. The only down side is the proximity of the main road through Maggie Valley. The road noise distracted from the tranquility of the swing and beautiful views. Our family enjoyed grilling and the picnic table out back and playing cards at the kitchen table. The cabin was just the right size for us.

The hot tub was great and the view from the back porch was very peaceful. Loved the location as well. Maggie Valley is a very nice little town and very close to the Smoky Mountains.

Almost Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Most relaxing cabin I have ever stayed at - everything was perfect. Very Private but not to the point of being in the woods. I sit on the porch for hours everyday without seeing anybody but I did enjoy lots of birds. The road going to the cabin had very little traffic so I didn't have to worry about my children playing outside and play outside they did. The front yard is like a little mountain and my kids loved rolling down it. I don't think we turned on the TV the entire time we were there. We loved being in the mountains and the view is awesome. Our BEST Memory: Roasting marshmallows at the Fire Pit and going to Joey's of course.

Wonderful cabin in a great location!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I met our daughter and family for a wonderful vacation in March 2017. We slept 5 comfortably. The views are wonderful. We were there during snow and sun. Mr. Rucker was kind enough to make sure we had wood for the fireplace. He also took it upon his self to let us know that we could park at the bottom of the mountain during snow and ice (since the neighborhood road is not scraped). He is quick to return any emails sent. The house is apportioned well and very clean. Everything you need is there. You are close to everything in Maggie Valley and just a short drive to Cherokee. The entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway is not far. We look forward to another vacation in Maggie Valley. We will try to stay at the Bear Den then as well.

Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

House was very clean and had a beautiful view from the back patio. Owner is very helpful and responsive. I would definitely stay there again. I would, however, caution anyone from going to Maggie Valley this late in the season as a lot of the businesses are already closed until spring. We especially missed going to Joey's House of pancakes, which EVERYONE suggested! All in all, we had an amazing trip, due to the many hiking options, the ski resort and beautiful views.

Great little find in Maggie Valley

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed for three nights in the middle of November. There was enough chill in the air to make a fire every night and soak in the hot tub.....what a luxury for us Florida flatlanders! It is a very clean, modern house just off the main drag and is a nice base for hiking and exploring the area. Everything you need is there...and the beds were super comfortable. Don was very easy to work with and he attended to a problem with the hot tub right away. The views were amazing but we were surprised that it is located in an area with close neighbors and felt more like suburb than woods. We really enjoyed our time there and thank Don for being so gracious.
