This spectacular third floor direct oceanfront unit features breathtaking views of the islands of Lanai and Molokai from your lanai, living room and master bedroom. Our condo, in the highly desirable 'L' Building, is just steps from the water's edge and world-famous Kaanapali Beach. You can walk for miles or snorkel with the turtles and fish.

Enjoy beautiful sunsets each night as you dine on your private lanai. Look for the green flash! Watch the cruise ships sailing to nearby Lahaina and the distant evening lights on Molokai.

Winter is the season for whale and dolphin watching. You can easily see them from your third floor vantage point. Bring your binoculars.

Our lovely new home-away-from-home has been completely remodeled. It was featured on the Homeowners Tour of premium condos. The condo sleeps four to five with a luxury king-size bed in the master, a queen-size in the second bedroom and a queen-size sofa sleeper in the living room. A nice breeze blows into the back bedroom and through the condo. All rooms are on the same level.(No inconvenient loft!) The unit is air-conditioned with two TV's, one a 42' flat screen. There is a hair dryer in each bath, an Ipod docking station, and free wi-fi. An elevator is nearby for easy access.

Why Herb & Kathy Hauswald chose West Maui

We've always loved Hawaii for its body-temperature air, giant tropical plants, and the immense variety of wildlife and colorful fish. We searched most of the islands before deciding on West Maui. We chose this area because of its slightly cooler climate, greener landscapes, and the proximity to the old port of Lahaina. We also love being able to walk to the market, farmers market, shops and restaurants. The resort itself has beautiful, lush landscaping and all the amenities we want--hot tubs, pools, putting greens, cabanas, tennis courts, even a concierge desk!.

We love Papakea for the beautiful landscaping and low density population here. We love our condo for our fabulous views and the sound of the crashing surf.

What makes this condo unique

We enjoy sitting on the lanai and watching whales in the channel and the lights on Molokai from as close as you can get. The master bedroom is also oceanfront, and we can lie in bed and watch the ocean from there. The luxury mattresses are sooo comfortable! We sleep so well to the sound of the surf!

Fantastic Papakea condo unit.

Fantastic unit. We have stayed in this unit on numerous occasions. Consistently great. Have never had any problems. Owner is friendly and responsive. Unit has best view of ocean I have ever seen in Maui condo. Unbeatable during whale watching season. Kitchen well stocked. Across street from grocery store. Very close to numerous great places to eat. Beach access steps away. Unit is in back of condo complex, so parking and noise are not problematic. Pool, hot tub, and grill very close. You won't find a better unit in this price range. Just returned home a few days ago, and already planning our dates for next summer. L-302 No Ka Oi ! ( the best )

Construction and Broken Refrigerator

Here is a portion of my email to the owner: "I hate to bring this up because everything else was so nice, but I was disappointed that even though I made sure beforehand there would be no construction going on while we were there, there were still boards and tarps up on the sea wall when we arrived. They came down after a couple days, but every day except the weekend, workers were out below our deck, rototilling the dirt, getting ready for laying grass sod. They even had a back hoe running one day, all right under our deck. Not only was it noisy and ugly, but the activity kicked up dirt which settled onto the patio furniture (we had to wipe it down repeatedly) and deck and got tracked into the rooms. The parking area was still blocked off by our room and part of the time, workers were out there shoveling up the rocks that had been put there during construction. I've attached some pics below. We could look past the workers to the beautiful ocean, but couldn't block out the noise. And it seemed like ours was the only area in the complex with work going on. Also, the refrigerator never worked properly. At first it was just not getting food and ice cold. Later, it started making a loud rattling noise (video sound clip to follow in separate email.) We talked to Dave several times and he kept saying that we had turned it up too high, but actually it was not working when we arrived (no ice) and then we turned it colder gradually over several hours, but it never made ice. Once it started making the noise, Dave said to turn it off and then back on, which stopped the noise temporarily. When the noise started again on Thursday night, Dave said to turn it off again and he would have someone come in the morning. The repair person did not come in the morning, so Eric called Dave, who then arranged for another guy to come. The repairman finally showed up around 5 P.M. on Friday. He stopped the noise, but had to turn off the fan until a part could be ordered (to arrive the following Monday, after we left.) So again, the food could not get cold. We had to buy ice all week and had to toss our milk." The owner eventually agreed to give us $100 back for the refrig issue and said he was glad it had finally been repaired (AFTER we left.) He brushed off the construction issue, even when I sent him the email where he assured me earlier that I would only hear the "sound of the surf." Instead, he reminded me that we got a "free" day (part of his advertised special.)

Owner's Response: We have owned our Maui condo for eight years. We have rented it out during that time and this is the first negative review that we have had. All other unsolicited comments by guests to VRBO have been very positive. That is understandable, because the condo has spectacular views and is a beautiful unit that we keep looking like new. It is for this reason that our guests return time after time. We have had one party stay with us nine times and many others three. The condo was rented to the person who is complaining months before their stay. We had no idea that sod would be laid when they were there. Even had we known, we would not have thought that it would be too disruptive since our unit is three stories above any work being done. We are sorry that it turned out otherwise and they got some dust and some noise, other than the sound of the surf. The refrigerator is only two years old, and our manager thought the problem was something other than a defective fan. It did take some time to get the problem diagnosed and a new part ordered. We were happy to give our guests $100 for any spoilage. The free night that we gave these people was not part of any advertised special. We do this occasionally if there is a night available either before or after their stay. We're sorry these guests had a problem with circumstances that were beyond our control.

We just returned from a stay in this condo and found it to be perfect for our needs. The views were stunning and overwhelming to our senses as we come from the Midwest and are not used to such magnificent views! There were five in our party, which meant one had to sleep on the sofa bed. She had no complaints and found it to be comfortable. The beds in the bedrooms were also pleasing. My favorite part was taking a shower in the master bath and being able to view the ocean and palm trees while bathing. The kitchen was well stocked with spices and some paper products. We made use of the washer/dryer combo in the unit as it was so handy. This made for less work upon returning home as no huge pile of laundry! Also, we rented a car for our duration and parking was never an issue. We generally do not vacation in the same place twice but should we decide to return to Maui again, this unit will be the first place we look for availability. Book it! You won't be disappointed! :)

Perfect location for our family!!!!

Herb and Kathy had prepared us for our arrival and we were not disappointed! Upon arrival we were smacked in the face with a fabulous view. We live in California in an "ocean view home" and this place was able to take our breath away. The kitchen was updated and modern and the bedrooms were roomy with comfortable beds. We did not utilize the property all that much, but it was always clean and well represented. The location of the building was easy for parking and the proximity to Kaanapali beach was perfect for us! We love Maui and exploring her beauty. We were able to go grocery shopping and pack lunches in the provided ice chest and take off for the day. Many snorkeling spots are in close proximity to the property... We even saw sea turtles. We truly enjoyed the time we spent at Herb and Kathy's! If location to the water is what you are looking for...this is the pace for you. At one point late at night my husband said to me jokingly " hey can you turn down the ocean waves.?? I can't hear the tv!" Relaxing home environment...recommended to family and friends,
