Overview

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Beautiful two-bedroom oceanfront cottage apartment with unbelievable second floor views and next-door to historic Fort Moultrie.

This is the best small vacation spot you'll find. The views from the second floor porch, bedroom and living area are unbelievable. The historic Fort Moultrie property and a large maritime forest extend for over a mile up the beach making for a seemingly deserted island during walks and runs. We have a birds-eye view of every boat that passes through the harbor whether it's a cruise ship, sailing ketch or shrimp boat.

Fishing out front is good and you're almost always guaranteed to see lots of bottle-nose dolphins. Swimming right of the rock jetty is good as we have a gentle slope with small, lapping waves.

You can walk up the beach in the morning to watch the sunrise over the ocean and then sit out front in our Adirondack chairs to see spectacular sunsets over the harbor and the steeples of old Charleston.

Our place is a 100 year-old Southern beach cottage that was built to house Army Corps nurses prior to WWI. While totally updated and in great condition, we've made sure to preserve the old beach cottage charm. It's wonderfully decorated but is all about comfort.

We have lots of books for reading and napping. Much to our chagrin, we also have wireless internet, cable, DVD and an iPod ready CD player. We are literally next door to historic Fort Moultrie that is now a very uncrowded National Park but played an integral role in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI and WWII.

Sullivan's Island is not a tourist town. It is a beautiful and quaint village island. It's mostly made up of full time residents. It is very safe and family friendly. You can bicycle down to the town center for great restaurants with outdoor dining, playgrounds, tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, galleries and a small grocery store. Lots of folks think of Sullivan's Island as 'Mayberry by the Sea'.

Best porch view on Sullivan's!

  • 5 of 5

Our visit was amazing. Wonderful spot - loved seeing the tall ships arrive in harbor & all the other ships, boats, & dolphin! Keith was a wonderful host. We will definitely be back!

My family and I had a great stay. The beach wasn't too crowded and it is close to many restaurants and activities.

Charming, Eclectic Beach House

  • 4 of 5

Loved this quirky, warm, and welcoming waterfront rental. Walls are filled with charming art, mostly related to the area. Great little touches (flashlight, sugar packets, salt & pepper, spices, a quilt to cover up with, clothes line & clothes pins--for wet suits, etc.) along with lots of comfy seating, great furniture on the porch, and the wonderful Adirondack chairs on the dunes. The place is over 100 years old so it's painted floors are a little slanted, it's windows won't open, and wind whistles in the front door. I loved the character it brings to the unit. My handy-man husband saw projects he'd like to fix! This is a second floor unit so the views are terrific. The climb up the steps may be a little tough on retired seniors.

A beach walk that goes for miles

  • 5 of 5

Waxing rhapsodic.. we all know how these reviews go... this one deserves a great one, what a find! It really is a quaint historic two story cottage of which we rented the upper quarter. Clean, nicely outfitted, full of beautiful local art and whimsy, every couch and chair beckons for a book, and there are chairs everywhere, rocking chairs in the front porch, lounge chairs on the back porch.. even charismatic adirondacks on the shore's edge.

We fished off the rocks, flew kites, watched kayakers and paddle boarders launch in front of us. You can do everything here. The walk around Fort Moultrie up along the long reach of Sullivan's Island beach is outstanding. Starts right at the front door.

If you've not been to Sullivan's island before, don't expect a lot of action beyond waves and breezes... it's the sleepy coastal town we all dream about, with a few outstanding restaurants and shops thrown in. Reflective and relaxing, that describes the part we'll take away with us.

This place is quiet, it's homey, Keith is wonderful to work with.... if you're looking for a getaway to relax and explore, you've found it.

Birthday Trip

  • 5 of 5

This property was quaint, clean, comfortable, and historically interesting. The location was fantastic! Loved the view! Neighbors were friendly. The island was a wonderful, relaxing place to spend time at. We really did not need to leave the island to find everything we needed. I would certainly consider staying here again and would recommend it to a friend.

Great location and well kept historical rental

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just finished a stay and loved the place. Its in a great location with a nice beach in front. Amazing if your looking for a cozy charming place not the overly modernized new places. Lots of good ship watching plus tons of wildlife. We saw dolphins nearby almost daily and can spend hours watching the pelicans dive fishing. Lots of great history with the fort next door and great books about the area in the cabin. The rental is well stocked with books, puzzles, cooking utensils, hair dryer, coffee maker, working appliances and washer dryer. You can tell Keith does a great job of keeping up on the place. We also liked the neighbors cat that patrols the ground but doesnt bother you much.

We appreciated that Keith is open to responsible dog owners but decided to leave our guy back home to avoid the long travel. I hope dog owner renters appreciate and show respect as a place this well kept rarely allow.

Plenty of good food just down the street and we loved Obs Daughter the most. Mount Pleasant also has lots of options within 10 minute drive.

We took in daily runs across the Ravenel Bridge which highly recommend for runners or walkers but be sure to hit before or after hot part of day. We also had an awesome sunset sailboat charter out of Patriot Point. Charleston is a great place with tons to see and do and we enjoyed our first visit with a walking tour.

I hate pointing out such great places to rent because I know it wont stay easy to rent for long but have to give a great review for such a great place to stay!
