My husband and I love this quiet area, close to Interstate 40 which will take you into Tennessee in about 35 minutes to do the best white water rafting in the area and it can take you into Asheville in 30 minutes for great shopping and sight seeing.
Delia Hoffmeister purchased this house in 2008
This property is a gem and close to everything. We pride ourselves in cleanliness.
The jacuzzi is like a mini-pool and the large fire pit is a the perfect place for all of your guests to tell their stories.
We booked for 10 adults and 10 children. These Florida children have never seen snow so this was a tubing/snowboard trip for us. We ended up with 6 adults and 10 children.
The living room was set up so that all of us could be in the same room comfortably. The leather sofa set is sleeper sofa on one side and recliner on the other with a nice oversized chair. The table behind the couch seats 6 comfortably and we had 3 children under comforters on the floor in front of the fireplace at all times.
There was plenty of dining area and more then enough plates and utensils for all. Wish we had found the electric griddle in cabinet to the right of sink earlier.
The master suite is huge! There are two separate master baths divided by a walk in closet. One side is garden tub, toilet and sink. Other side is shower, toilet and sink. Because of their size, we used these as the main baths for everyone.
The other 2 main floor bedrooms were roomy beds were comfy and share the main floor bathroom in a hallway off the kitchen.
Upstairs is Kid Heaven! There is a huge game room with foosball and air hockey and 3 sleeper sofas that divides the bedroom areas. One side is 2 bedrooms and the other is a bedroom and bath. There were plenty of games, books and other activities for them.
Lots of comforters, blankets and linens. After we found the towels that were still in the dryer we realized we didn't have to share the 4 towels left in the bathrooms.
The Donkey in the gated community was a big hit with everyone.
The cons: The stairs and main upstairs play area are over the master suite bed and the hot tub is right outside the master suite french doors. My children insisted that we take the master suite since we paid for the trip and we found there was no quiet time for us. The grandchildren up and down the steps until they went to sleep and then their parents out at the fire pit or hot tub after they could relax until the wee hours. A TV in the Master suite would have been helpful to drown out the other noises.
There is a dated Plasma TV in the living room and a small tube TV upstairs both have a DVD player but we could not get upstairs one to work.
The driveway is steep, steep and you slide around even without snow. They did offer a level parking area at the other property they own nearby.
Loved the mud room/laundry area but it really could use some hooks for all the jackets and better area for all the shoes and boots.
Overall we were very comfy and had great time.
one of the sofa beds could not be used so we went and bought air mattresses, washer dosen't work very well and it could've been cleaned a little better. But we had great fellowship with each other
The property is nicely tucked away, a home away from home! All amenities in the home were great! Our goal was to go to the mountains and relax, and this place provided us with exactly that. Owner was very accessible and available when needed.
As a frequent guest and user of VRBO homes, I would like to offer some recommendations to the owner to make check-in and checkout easier for the next guests.
(1) At check-in- provide the code to gain access to keys, either in the instructions or via private message to guest 24 hrs prior to check-in so as to avoid having to call to gain access to the home. Signal in the mountains can be an issue as we had no phone service, which we were perfectly fine with, and knew about this, so we called 2 hours prior to get this information. Most people don't realize they have no signal and would be stuck, and could not gain access to the home! (2) As part of the VRBO - "what to pack" instructions, make sure that owner includes that the guests should also pack basic spices like salt, pepper and other spices if they need for their cooking while staying at the property, as these are not provided at the home. This would have been very helpful to us, as the closest store was not easily accessible once you get to the home. Not a big deal, but would have made things easier. (3) Make sure that the check-out time listed on the VRBO instructions are the same - VRBO listed check-out at 11am but maintenance crew was at the home at 10am to advise that check-out was at 10am. Again not a big issue, just would be nice to know in advance. (4) Lastly, owner should make alternate provisions for garbage pick-up if guests are using the property on a holiday where a Monday is also a holiday. The garbage dump is usually closed on Sunday, per the property instructions which was fine, but it was also closed on Monday which happened to be on a holiday weekend. This created somewhat of an issue as we had to haul five+ bags of garbage back in our vehicles as the dumpster was closed and the nearby gas stations were watching and threatening to fine. This was the only experience that was not pleasant for us, as guests should not have to haul their garbage back with them! Perhaps the owner can make special accommodations for Memorial Day and Labor day guests as they both fall on a Monday and the dumpsters will likely be closed for (2) days - Sunday and Monday. Again, these are just recommendations as our stay was simply awesome! Thanks Delia!
We had such a wonderful time here. The place doesn't look big from the outside but the inside was super spacious. The master bedroom itself was huge ! It had 2 separate bathrooms and like almost a little living room area along with the bed. The upstairs area was a huge asset. The kids loved that area and they loved the two rooms with bunk beds. Hot tub worked great. There was wood to build a fire and make smores. Kitchen was spacious. Everything worked. We had 4 separate families that stayed here and there was more than enough room for us all. It was definitely worth it and a great price. The driveway up to the house is a little scary, but once you make it up, it's all good.
Our family has been vacationing together for 12 consecutive years. By far, this was the worst experience we have ever had. When we arrived on Sunday, July 10, the house was not ready for us. When we walked in, the laundry room was full of towels, sheets, etc. to be washed. All the family pitched in and got to work to make the house livable. There were crumbs on the table, the kitchen floor was unacceptable. The house needed vacuuming and of course, the beds weren't made. We all pitched in and swept, moped and vacuumed and made beds so we could go to bed for the night. I tried several times to call the owners, however, they didn't answer or neither call back. The only comfortable beds were on the ground level. The upper level had mostly futons and we had adults who had to sleep up there because of our big family. The owners of the house would not respond to my calls before and after our visit. They admitted to the cleaning people that they had failed to contact him that guests were coming that day. We didn't know what time to arrive and what time to leave. Very little contact with the owners long before the stay and after. We booked this house in January 2016, so there was simply no excuse for this MESS!!!!!! One Plus, my great-grandchildren enjoyed the donkeys and fed them daily. One last comment, the owners were on an Alaskan Cruise and I guess they simply forgot about people who were going to stay in their home. We are from SC so we enjoyed the cool mountain air.
There were 15 of us that stayed at the house. We were in town for a family wedding and needed a place large enough to accomodate our group, coming from Pennsylvania, Florida and Tennessee...This house fit the bill. The house was great and well equipped. We loved the hot tub and spent many evenings there. We also enjoyed a fire in the fire pit a couple evenings. We were a bit thrown on the drive to the house, as you leave the main road and travel onto what seems to be a desolate area, however once you get to the house and up the steep drive..the questionable drive seems worth it...and once you do the drive a couple times it doesn't seem as bad either. The wifi seemed to go in and out and some of our group never were able to connect, for some reason, but again, not really a major issue for us. Over all a great house and would totally recommend it to others.
Hooker Falls is a MUST see if you love hiking with beautiful water falls.
