I WAS THE DEVELOPER'S REAL ESTATE BROKER AT HONUA KAI FROM 2009 to 2016 when we sold out!

I am also a licensed attorney in both Hawaii (Bar No. 8295) and California (Bar No 178241)(voluntary inactive).

OUT OF THE 189 one bedroom units at Honua Kai only SEVEN are located in the inner courtyard. The reasons are as follows: 1) Big Ocean Views 2) Incredible night views over looking the big Hokulani pool and all the tiki torches that surround it and that surround Duke's Beach House. 3) If the trade winds are blowing, the inner courtyard protects you 4) No noise from the road or surrounding resorts. and 5) You look at the Honua Kai Resort not at somebody else's resort. Please take a look at our photos and you'll see that they are actual pictures of the unit and upon your arrival you will say that the pictures do not do this place justice. I say its the second best unit since there is only one stack of 1 bedroom units in the inner courtyard. There's seven floors and our unit is on the 6th floor. Also, know that this unit has the highly desirable 700 sq ft floorplan. This floorplan has a bathroom that has the separate tub and glass shower (not all in one) it has double sinks and you have dual access from the master bedroom and the living area. If you want to make your trip special this is the unit for you.

Best of Both Worlds!

Best of both worlds! A cross between staying at a really nice resort with having all of the ammenities of home. The Honua Kai is a newer resort with multiple pools, areas to lounge, and a pretty good coffee shop with decent espresso. Stroll out of the lobby through the immaculate grounds, past the pools and you can have lunch at Dukes Restaurant on the beach. (Dining suggestion: take a short drive over to Star Noodle. It sounds like a hole in the wall - anything but! Its a funky, trendy place filled with locals. Be sure to make a reservation in advance or you’ll never get in.) The unit itself feels larger than the photos, which appear spacious online. There is a wall of glass that opens to a lanai overlooking the courtyard and ocean. Well appointed kitchen, bathroom and linen closet. It is very clear that Joe and his wife know what they are doing and pay attention to detail with their unit. It is immaculate with clear instructions and helpful suggestions. Everything from kitchen utensils and appliances to boogie boards, noodles and beach towels have been thoughtfully stocked for use. Even a bottle of champagne, Maui coffee and chocolate macadamia nuts were given! If you prefer to skip eating out, the Times Market is within walking distance for groceries. NOTE: Don’t listen to the parking attendants for directions. They told my wife and I to walk on the busy highway. It is far safer and shorter to cut through the parking lot toward the spa. You have a little path to walk on and pop out right across the street from the Times market. We visit Maui each summer and this year skipped renting a car. It worked well because the Honua Kai is close to Whalers Village and Front Street. There is a $3.00 shuttle just outside of the lobby that picks up on the hour and will take you to Lahaina. Very convenient. Also, the taxis are about half the price of taking Uber. Figure on spending about $100 with tip to or from Kahului Airport for a family. All in all, I highly recommend Unit 613 at the Honua Kai!

We just arrived home after 10 days in Maui at the Honua Kai Resort. It was actually a family trip and my husband and I stayed in Hokulani 613. It exceeded our expectations of a resort stay!! The unit was beautiful and had the most spectacular view. We were close to all the amenities the resort had to offer and Joe was very helpful when we arrived. I hope to stay at that unit sometime in the future when we return to Maui!

Great place

Everything was exactly as described on VRBO. Clean, convenient, large lanai, wonderful amenities, and nothing broken or in disrepair. Though we did not need to contact Joe he made it clear he was available, if necessary, and easily reachable.

Great vacation spot

Loved our stay. The room was very clean and inviting upon arrival. The room has a great view and was more spacious than I thought it would be. My only wish was that there would have been an option for housekeeping. We stayed 7 days and that was too long without housekeeping which

left all the work to me.

Amazing trip to Maui!

We just returned home from a wonderful week long stay in H613. Joe met us at check in and everything in the condo was perfect and ready for us. The view from the lanai was just amazing and we loved having breakfast and lunch looking at the ocean. Our kids slept on the sofa bed and said it was very comfortable! Convenient location with just a short drive to Lahaina for dinner or to Kapalua for a perfect beach day! Highly recommend Honua Kai 613!

For those of you returning to Honua Kai you know the difference and for our first timers the best way to sum up the difference is that the inner courtyard 1 bedrooms would sell for $1,000,000 and the exterior units sell for $825,000.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
