About Albert Holt
Albert and Linda Holt moved to the Big Island after deciding they needed something to do after working in Silicon Valley for the past 30 years. A Kona Coffee farm seemed to be just the ticket. Having had vacation rentals in Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas they were excited about being able to share the Kona Coffee farming experience, and the Big Island Hawaii experience with others, so they built a guest residence just for that purpose. Pictured here with the very first roasted and bagged coffee from our first year (2007) crop.
Albert Holt purchased this Guest House in 2006
Why Albert Holt chose Hōlualoa
Being away from the resorts and tourist hustle and bustle, yet close enough to everything in order to be able to experience the true Hawaii and Aloha.
What makes this Guest House unique
Panoramic ocean views, 1400 feet above sea level where the air is clean and cool, wild turkeys and chickens, and the occasional pig wandering the property, night time nature sounds, calm no traffic lifestyle and plenty of property to stretch out in.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
The view from this property are beautiful. The morning sunrise over the mountain bring pink skies early morning and the evening sunset are right over the deck and are stunning!
The surroundings are quiet with the exception of the birds, turkeys, and coqui frogs :-). Even the upstair's neighbors were respectful of the serene surroundings.
The unit is well decorated and the extras like beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, ice chests, and boogie boards were nice amenities. However, a first morning pot of coffee would be nice as would ice cube trays (filled!). It is not a hotel so, outside of some spices, there was little in the way of amenities in the kitchen and bathroom. The soft water is a bonus but you may want to post something to that effect since it would cut down on the amount of dish soap, shampoo, and dishwasher detergent used. Guests should bring mosquito repellent since the natural surroundings encourage mosquitos. We always travel with the spiral bracelets and used those during our time on the deck. We even popped a few around the candles on the outdoor table.
A few extra bed pillows would be a thoughtful addition since my husband and I both use two (if there were extras we failed to notice them).
We used the very nice washer and dryer thoughtfully placed where it could be accessed by guests in both units. We brought our own detergent since we have issues with scented products but it was very nice that there was some provided.
One word to future guests. Once you park in the garage be ready for a very steep paved driveway, another steepish walk on grass to the upper unit and a very steep grassy walk to the lower unit. Reverse the process to leave. We are in our mid/late-60s and managed it ok (even in the rain) but tried to minimize our ups and downs.
Overall the place was well appointed, exceptionally clean, and had beautiful views. It's quiet, out of town, and adds a bit of what locals enjoy. Know you're getting a bit of natural Hawaii and are staying in a private unit and you'll be very happy.
Best value for the view
Clean and quaint, cozy and comfy.
We loved our week stay at the guest residence on ALs farm. The turkeys, tropical birds, fruit trees, coffee trees and amazing view were highlight to each of our mornings. The outdoor kitchen was a nice change for cooking and met our needs. The shower was awesome, and had a waterfall head. There is no curtains over the sliding bedroom door, and the birds are very loud (because there is no actual window glass, just wooden shutters). We are early risers so this didn’t bother us, but may bother others. We would stay here again, loved it!
Quiet, bird songs, ocean breezes and great view.
When we arrived late in the evening and found the place and we were not aware of the very steep access to the unit but after we got in the place was wonderful. I was surprised to find that when we went to bed there was no curtains to close, that made no difference for the time we were there. The place was wonderful. We had a great time looking down on Kona, you could pick out different places in Kona from up on the hill.
All the things needed for cooking were right there and there were spices to add to your meal. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was great, the chairs in the living room were very comfortable and the TV was easy to use.
One thing that I would liked to have had was for the first morning if there had of been some coffee there for when you get up especially being on a coffee farm.
Overall the place was very comfortable and most enjoyable. Would I book again with Albert, I would, but maybe the next time I would book the upper unit.
Sitting and looking over Kona from the lanai in the evening was great and watching the wild turkeys walking by was enjoyable. We had a very good stay at Alberts place and would recommend it to our friends.
Perfect for a couple needing to unwind
