Seasmoke Cottage is the private guest cottage on a 4 acre oceanfront property which also includes the owners' year-round residence. The cottage is located at the narrowest point of the Newbury Neck Peninsula in Surry, Maine. A short walk down a woodland path leads to a shoreline seating area to enjoy sunset views of Morgan Bay, explore tidal pools, and watch seals, osprey, and eagles vie for their fish dinners. A short walk in the opposite direction leads to the Carrying Place Beach, a "warm" water (Maine standards!) swimming beach, or to Perry's Lobster Shack, an area landmark frequented by locals, tourists, and boaters. Newbury Neck Peninsula is ideal for sailing, kayaking, biking, hiking, and long walks with views of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. The "Neck" is situated at the center of some of most scenic places in Maine including Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, the Blue Hill Peninsula, and Downeast Maine. And despite its coastal tranquility, it's only 20 minutes away from shops and restaurants.
Seasmoke Cottage is a comfortable and centrally-located place to head home after long days exploring this part of Maine. Nestled in a wooded setting midway between Morgan and Union River Bays, it faces a clay tennis court used exclusively by the guests. The cottage has its own parking, and guests approach the cottage via a private lighted path.
Its spacious deck, with table, umbrella, dining and lounge chairs, is a sunny place for dining, relaxing, or watching your family play tennis.
The cottage is spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and fully equipped. The living room is comfortably furnished and includes a gas fireplace, especially nice on cool fall evenings. The bookshelves are filled with a broad selection of summer reading, games, and puzzles, including children's toys and books. The satellite TV includes HBO.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed dressed in crisp sheets and elegant bedding. Upstairs, two semi-private "rooms", separated by an enclosed stairwell, feature a queen bed on one side and two twins on the other.
The single bathroom downstairs features a tiled walk-in shower and on-demand hot water.
The kitchen is fully equipped for any meal you might want to make. It has a new Atlantic black granite countertops (2016), ceramic cooktop electric range with self-cleaning oven, a refrigerator with ice-maker, microwave, Keurig coffeemaker, Bosch dishwasher (2016), and plenty of pots and pans, bakeware, cutlery, and dishes and glassware.
There is a washer and dryer, but in case you don't want to spend your time doing laundry, there are plenty of extra sheets and towels, including beach towels.
Paper products, laundry and dishwashing detergents, and staple food items like flour, sugar, spices, vinegars, and oils are provided. There is even charcoal for the grill. If needed, there is a pack-n-play crib with sheets, a high chair, and a baby gate for the stairs.
Seasmoke Cottage is thoughtfully equipped and well-prepared to make your time here easy and enjoyable.

Meticulously decorated and fully stocked!
Beautiful cottage. Well appointed. Stocked with everything one needs. By the water. Tennis courts right in front. Wonderful hosts as well!
Great cottage & grounds--wonderful owners.
We loved our stay at Seasmoke Cottage! The location was in the woods, just a few steps away from the bay, where it was fun to watch the wildlife, experience the change of the tides, hang out in the adirondack chairs with a drink and watch the sunset, and paddle around in rented kayaks. MaryAnn and Marc were thoughtful and friendly hosts, very easy to work with; and who had the place stocked with everything that we needed. We would return in a heartbeat!
Dream Family Vacation!
We just returned from staying 3 weeks at Seasmoke Cottage. We had the best time! The cottage is spotless (and I'm very picky!) and MaryAnne has stocked it full of everything you could possibly need. The view is stunning and the grounds are beautiful. Our two boys (7 and 10) loved exploring the tide pools during low tide every day. We saw many seals feeding and saw a bald eagle almost daily. The tennis court was a wonderful added bonus that we used every day and had so much fun playing as a family. The weather was perfect and made it so enjoyable to be outside (a welcome change from the Texas heat!) We visited Acadia several times as it's only about 45 minutes away, and explored several other nearby villages. Marc and MaryAnne were fabulous hosts; attentive but not intrusive, available, responsive, and helpful as needed. The area is overwhelmingly beautiful and the grounds surrounding the cottage are in immaculate condition. We walked to the beach across the street many times on our low-key days, but mostly just enjoyed our time in the cottage, playing tennis and card games. The home has tons of books (adults and kids) as well as many board games and puzzles. We enjoyed our time together in the cottage just as much as hiking Acadia! We would definitely return to Seasmoke if our travels take us to Maine in the future!
Perfect peaceful base camp!
We just finished one of our best family vacations! Seasmoke cottage played a big role in making our vacation a success. We were seeking a clean, quiet, well appointed cottage away from the fray but that would allow us to enjoy Acadia and bluehill area. Each day we launched from the cottage with our two teen/tween boys to hike and bike at Acadia or the surrounding areas. Plenty to see and do. And plenty not to do too! We also enjoyed quiet hours with puzzles and books and playing tennis at the cottage. The cottage is well cared for, and we felt well cared for, too! Had privacy but also access to owners who were always willing to offer suggestions and answer questions should we have any. Would visit this home again!
We love this cottage. It has everything we want: peace and quiet, tennis, and access to the water!
Maryanne and Mark are very caring hosts. Maryanne had the cottage in tip-top shape when we arrived. It was impeccably clean and gracefully decorated. Mark provided extra tennis balls for me to practice my serve which I appreciated a lot. The vistas of the water from the shore are worthy of a postcard, not to mentioned that one can actually swim in the harbor without freezing! This is a place to get away from it all, be close to nature, relax and be inspired.
Seasmoke Cottage is located midway between Mount Desert Island (with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park) and the Blue Hill Peninsula. The region features shopping, dining, dramatic scenery, and outdoor recreational opportunities such as swimming, sailing, biking, hiking, and kayaking. A special feature for guests at Seasmoke Cottage is its private Har-tru clay tennis court. Other Activities: All the tennis you want is possible on your own private Har-tru clay tennis court situated right off the cottage deck. Guests also love the Newbury Neck Beach with the warmest swimming water in the area. There is a lobster shack right down the road where guests can eat on the dock or bring their lobsters back to the cottage deck and enjoy them there. There are local rental businesses that provide bikes, kayaks and canoes, and other recreational equipment. When booking the cottage, just let us know and we'll send you information about that option. And the cottage is located right between two of the most beautifully scenic outdoor areas in Maine: Acadia National Park and the Blue Hill peninsula. Breathtaking locales for hiking, climbing, and long walks abound in the area.
