Great View of Islands, Lighthouse, and Open Ocean with large private yard

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

Charming cottage with unique oceanfront view of islands, a lighthouse and the open ocean providing one of the most picturesque views that you will ever find on the Maine coast. Situated in a very secluded setting, a relaxing atmosphere awaits you in this comfortable three bedroom beach front cottage.

This one-of-a-kind property is located in the private community of Indian Point, which provides you with access to several private sandy beaches and miles of nature trails along marshes, tidal sand flats, beautiful rocks with spectacular views as well as a boat launch and guest moorings on a sheltered bay. From the spacious front deck enjoy the waves, sailboats and working lobster boats. At night, you will be relaxed by the sound of the surf, the smell of the ocean air and looking at the moon reflecting on the water.

This one-story cottage has a fully equipped kitchen (including lobster and clam pots) adjacent to a dining area and a large living room with a beautiful brick fireplace. There are many large windows throughout the cottage that will allow you to enjoy the unique views from almost every room. This cozy comfortable sunny cottage has three bedrooms . . . one bedroom has a queen-size bed, another has twin beds and the third has bunk beds. It will accommodate 6 people. This cottage has a washer and an outdoor clothes line to dry your wash in the open air giving it a nice sweet smell. There is a 3/4 bath with a shower. There is also a charcoal grill for the grilling enthusiast.

Most guests will stay at Indian Point for its feeling of a remote island retreat while others can take a ten minute drive to the miles of beautiful beaches and sand dunes at Reid State Park or the picturesque quaint fishing village of Five Islands. On the wharf at Five Islands enjoy a delicious dinner of your favorite seafood while watching the boats go in and out of the harbor. On the Island of Georgetown you will find a marina, general store, three restaurants, two lobster and clam shacks and a farm stand with fresh local vegetable as well as gourmet foods.

A twenty minute drive up Route 127 is the historic city of Bath with its rich maritime history and several old sea captain homes. While in Bath visit the Maine Maritime Museum as well as many stores, wonderful shops and more fine restaurants. The American Planning Association has designated Bath's Front Street as one of the country's top 10 'Great Streets.'

A forty five minute drive from this cottage is the outlet shopping in Freeport, home of LL Bean's flagship store. Antiquing is available thirty minutes away in Wiscasset. For day trips you will want to visit Boothbay Harbor where you can board one of many boats for cruising, whale watching and deep sea fishing. Also, you will want to visit the Old Port District in Portland . . . both are one hour away.

Just what a Maine vacation should be!

  • 5 of 5

I am from Maine and grew up going to Reid State Park on hot days, but never knew about Indian Point...what a glorious spot! Sanborn Cottage was comfortable, well-appointed and private, with amazing views! Sea Beach is probably the nicest beach I have ever seen in Maine...but it was nice to be able to walk to four different beaches for variety. We hiked, kayaked, got a claming license and learned exactly how hard it is to dig your own clams, ate at Five Islands Lobster Pound, enjoyed the awesome Farm Market...generally enjoyed ourselves immeasurably! We will definitely be back!

Honeymoon in Maine!

  • 5 of 5

After 47 years of marriage, my husband and I decided to take a week off away from the children and grandchildren. We had such a wonderful week in Georgetown, Maine and definitely did not want to leave! We were happy as could be cooking lobsters, clams, and fresh veggies every day. It was also refreshing not to have the TV or computer on! The location was absolutely spectacular. The cottage was private, perfect, and peaceful. we were

Location, location, location. We had a fantastic visit in July 2012, and were blessed with great weather. The property is stunning: the view and access to the water are superb. We rented kayaks and a paddle board from Seaspray kayaks and enjoyed several days paddling in and around the cove. The property allows pets and the layout of the property is amenable to letting your dog run around the property off-leash, if you so choose. The cottage is simple, but suited our needs nicely. Note that there is a washing machine, but no dryer so you need to brush up on your clothespin skills. The trails in the community offered lots of fresh berries for picking (raspberries and blueberries). The kids are already asking if they can go again next summer!

Indian Point lies at the very southern end of Georgetown Island on a peninsula with beautiful private sand beaches, nature preserve, tidal rivers and marshes, tide pools, and miles of exquisite colorful rocky coast.

Should you venture beyond Indian Point, you can drive to Boothbay Harbor for a windjammer cruise, a tour of the botanical garden, or shopping the boutiques. For a shopping adventure, check out LLBean and the outlets in Freeport, which is 40 minutes away. An hour away, you can sample the cuisines of historic Old Port in Portland.

Closer by, visit the famous Maine Maritime Museum next to the shipyard, attend a concert or music theatre, enjoy the scenic train to the Farnsworth in Rockland, charter a fishing boat, or visit dozens of studios, galleries and antique shops.

Right here on Georgetown Island buy lobster off the boat at the wharf in Five Islands, watch artisans at Georgetown Pottery, explore the beaches of Reid State Park, or enjoy meals from pizza to lobster or even superb dining. Bath is just a 20 minutes drive and Brunswick 30 minutes for any major shopping needs.
