About Smoky Mountain Vacation

As natives of Waynesville, we love living in the mountains and enjoy the casual living here. Never a big believer in spending any unnecessary time in traffic kept me close to my childhood roots. Birthing babies and raising them in the mountains with the small town atmosphere and the closeness of family and a mix of great friends made it an easy decision to stick around these parts.

Smoky Mountain Vacation purchased this house in 2007

Why Smoky Mountain Vacation chose Smoky Mountains

My great great grandfather found love in these mountains back in the mid 1800's and settled down to be farmers with a knack for growing apples.

Our family had a small cabin where the present house sits since the 1950's where we gathered for picnics and camp outs. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to build our dream home here. It has always been considered one of the better views in Haywood County.

We designed our home to reflect the beauty of the environment surrounding it and for the home to blend into the mountain. You will love to watch the sunsets as they change daily and we can honestly say we have never seen the same sunset twice.

There may be a better house or a better view but there is not a better house with a better view.

What makes this house unique

Complete privacy with no other homes in sight, unobstructed views, additional 200 acres to hike and mountain bike, the feeling of being pampered by the unique yet comfortable interior of the house, relaxing on the screened in porch listening to the sounds of the mountains and sitting around the fire pit at night will give your family a lifetime of vacation memories.

Having a yard at this elevation to swing in the hammock and toss a bean bag or horseshoes is rare.

Everything I had hoped for & more!!!

  • 5 of 5

When my adult children asked me what I wanted for my 50th birthday, I told them all I wanted was a weekend in the mountains with them & their significant others.

When we got there Dave was great to meet us & show us around & go over all of the details.

The view was spectacular, the property is so nice to hike around, the dogs loved it!

The house is amazingly well kept, attention was paid to every detail!

We made incredible meals as the kitchen was so greatly equipped, built a great fire in the evening, played guitar & just kicked back to relax!

The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms very well designed & clean.

It started snowing on Sat. afternoon, and we were able to play in the snow, then go warm up inside for another great birthday dinner!

We woke to 5 inches of new snow, and the view of the mountains & city below was breathtaking!!!!

Dave was available by text or call and helped make my birthday an amazing experience!!! Can't thank you enough for sharing your beautiful home with my family so we could make great memories! Looking forward to many more visits!

Wonderful experience, BEAUTIFUL home and SPECTACULAR view!!

  • 5 of 5

I can't rave enough about this house and the owner. David was the best host we have ever encountered. He was so helpful and ensured we had all we needed. The ride up wasn't as scary as I thought it would be...but I would DEFINITELY make sure you have 4WD. It was a little bumpy and the creek you have to pass isn't as bad as it seems. The photos posted don't do the house justice. It's absolutely beautiful inside. The bathrooms are luxurious and the kitchen has all the necessities. And the beds are super comfortable. Everything was clean and easy to use. And there was more than enough space for us eight girls. We can't wait to come back in the summer!

Exceptional view, home and experience

  • 5 of 5

My son and I spent the most amazing month here. I ditto all other comments made and add: We absolutely loved driving up and down the 2 mile road, 1.5 being hard gravel. The gravel portion was graded nicely while we were there. We do have a Subaru Outback 4 wheel drive so that made the drive down a dream. Without the 4w it would mean a lot of brake use but doable. Many switch backs, corkscrew turns up, up and up. Meeting other vehicles along the way was a fun challenge as the road is single lane. Always worked out as there seemed to be only a handful of others on the mountain. The house is at the end of Harriett's Trail, topping the ridge. Two creeks to drive through (no warnings) or maybe the same waterfall twice. We never determined. I have over 65 years of coming to Waynesville so there is much great history as well as local family for us. This was our most fun and most beautiful stay. Even our local visitors said it was the most beautiful wide view they had ever seen on private property. Many called it the million dollar view and were sincere about it. We saw deer, hedgehogs, turkeys, etc., but no bears.

Although we didn't use the basement level we agreed that kids would have a great time there. It offered so much for them. The work out room is quite amazing also. We can't recommend this property enough. David, the owner who will meet you at the apple barn when you arrive, is delightful and most accommodating.

Memorie are made of this...

A glorious place to get away, renew and refresh! We spent Thanksgiving with our family including 4 young granddaughters who loved every minute. The house is cozy and yet there are plenty of places for active little ones to play. The furnishings, design and location are beyond lovely. The views are divine - we loved watching as the sun set and seeing the lights downtown came on - from the top of the mountain Waynesville looks like a strand of sparkling jewels at night! I've never rented with a more accommodating owner - so helpful and considerate. We topped out last night with a bonfire and our "littles" still talk about the fun they had!

Beautiful home with a fabulous view and close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

Our family came up for Spring Break to stay in is what I now refer to as my sanctuary! Absolute peace and quite with the nearest neighbor barely visible through the trees - I think it took me two days to even notice! After walking in to the home for the first time, I could not believe the view in front of me...absolutely stunning! The home itself, is nothing short of exquisite with a wonderful layout, large rooms, beautiful furnishings and tasteful decor. You can tell that the owners put a lot of thought into this home and it is well maintained. There are neat little features from lighting to architectural design that were so impressive. It is stocked with everything you'd expect and even hope for - paper products, trash bags, detergents, spices, linens, Wii games, board games, etc. The kitchen has everything you need for meal preparation. There is even a substantial CD collection and stereo for guest's use that we took full advantage of! Enjoyed having the music flow throughout the home. We would sit and watch - from inside, on the screened in porch or the deck - the view constantly changing with the clouds rolling by. Nighttime offered a completely perspective of overlooking the town full of twinkling lights!

The owner, David, is a pleasure and easy to reach. He met us at the bottom of the mountain and lead us up Harriett's Trail to the property. We would have never found it otherwise! The drive up (and down!) the mountain is quite the "adventure" being that it is a one lane gravel road that is quite steep and winding even going through two creeks. Follow David's instructions...take the curves wide and put it in 4WD going up and low gear going down. Takes a few extra minutes to traverse but so worth it!

When we did decide to venture out, we spent time window shopping in the lovely town of Waynesville, ate lunch at Haywood's Smokehouse and also at Clyde's, toured around Lake Junaluska, and spent one afternoon in Cherokee. Dollywood, about 1.5 hours away, provided a full day of activity. We also explored the nearby National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway and sought out quite a few waterfalls. Many things to do with so little time. This place is close to everything!

We hated to leave but look forward to returning one day! Many thanks for a wonderful family vacation!
