About Smoky Mountain Vacation
As natives of Waynesville, we love living in the mountains and enjoy the casual living here. Never a big believer in spending any unnecessary time in traffic kept me close to my childhood roots. Birthing babies and raising them in the mountains with the small town atmosphere and the closeness of family and a mix of great friends made it an easy decision to stick around these parts.
Smoky Mountain Vacation purchased this House in 2007
Why Smoky Mountain Vacation chose Cecil
My great great grandfather found love in these mountains back in the mid 1800's and settled down to be farmers with a knack for growing apples. Our family had a small cabin where the present house sits since the 1950's where we gathered for picnics and camp outs. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to build our dream home here. It has always been considered one of the better views in Haywood County. We designed our home to reflect the beauty of the environment surrounding it and for the home to blend into the mountain. You will love to watch the sunsets as they change daily and we can honestly say we have never seen the same sunset twice. There may be a better house or a better view but there is not a better house with a better view.
What makes this House unique
Complete privacy with no other homes in sight, unobstructed views, additional 200 acres to hike and mountain bike, the feeling of being pampered by the unique yet comfortable interior of the house, relaxing on the screened in porch listening to the sounds of the mountains and sitting around the fire pit at night will give your family a lifetime of vacation memories.

Incredible Home, Amazing Views!!
The house was as amazing as we had expected! David was a terrific host: quick to respond to emails/texts prior to & during our stay; having him show us up the mountain that first time was a nice touch. For reference, we have an AWD Dodge Journey, & it handled the drive up & down just fine. The house had everything we needed and more. The views were just amazing, and it was hard to say goodbye to them.
We traveled with our three kids (ages 14, 8, & 4), and had a great time exploring the area: things we would recommend would be Cataloochee Valley (seeing the elk was fun!), the many nature trails & waterfalls in the area (Looking Glass Falls was a hit), horseback riding at Sandy Bottom Trails, stopping in to shop in Asheville, and just enjoying evenings the house & playing games & listening to music with our kids every evening. The house was a welcome respite after busy days out & about.
We cooked most meals at the house (it has all the tools you’ll need) but did take advantage of the amazing pizza at Angelo’s, and had a great dinner at Bogart’s (the
Bogart’s Philly & ABC sandwiches were particular favorites). Lunch & coffee from Panacea was fantastic as well.
If we ever visit the area again, we will definitely try to book this rental! If you’re interested in this home, do yourself a favor & go for it!
Our vacation was absolutely wonderful! The pictures dont do this home justice. It is clean and very nicely decorated with a lot of things provided ; appliances, cookware, seasoning, paper products, cleaning supplies, games. My family of 5 plus my mother had more than enough room to move around plus some. The beds are very comfortable and all the linens are provided. The heated floors in the bathrooms are a plus esp on cold mornings! We visited early March and saw snow for the first time and had a blast!! The views are amazing day and night and are just breathtaking! The property is well taken care of and David is a pleasure to work with and very responsive. We drove up the mountain in a minivan and as scary as it was made it up and down just fine multiple times. It would have made it easier of we had 4wd but we did it. Make sure to double check any emails before arriving to see the specific directions David sends you, it will save you time and driving cause GPS isn't correct. We would return to this property in a heartbeat and are very thankful that we got to spend out time here!! Thanks David
Everything I had hoped for & more!!!
When my adult children asked me what I wanted for my 50th birthday, I told them all I wanted was a weekend in the mountains with them & their significant others.
When we got there Dave was great to meet us & show us around & go over all of the details.
The view was spectacular, the property is so nice to hike around, the dogs loved it!
The house is amazingly well kept, attention was paid to every detail!
We made incredible meals as the kitchen was so greatly equipped, built a great fire in the evening, played guitar & just kicked back to relax!
The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms very well designed & clean.
It started snowing on Sat. afternoon, and we were able to play in the snow, then go warm up inside for another great birthday dinner!
We woke to 5 inches of new snow, and the view of the mountains & city below was breathtaking!!!!
Dave was available by text or call and helped make my birthday an amazing experience!!! Can't thank you enough for sharing your beautiful home with my family so we could make great memories! Looking forward to many more visits!
Wonderful experience, BEAUTIFUL home and SPECTACULAR view!!
I can't rave enough about this house and the owner. David was the best host we have ever encountered. He was so helpful and ensured we had all we needed. The ride up wasn't as scary as I thought it would be...but I would DEFINITELY make sure you have 4WD. It was a little bumpy and the creek you have to pass isn't as bad as it seems. The photos posted don't do the house justice. It's absolutely beautiful inside. The bathrooms are luxurious and the kitchen has all the necessities. And the beds are super comfortable. Everything was clean and easy to use. And there was more than enough space for us eight girls. We can't wait to come back in the summer!
We rented this home for a week . It is everything that is advertised. Beautiful views. Has all the comforts of home. Plenty of room .Spent every night out by the fire pit. Dave you may have to replenish you fire wood. I would recommend this home to anyone.Great place
Exceptional view, home and experience
My son and I spent the most amazing month here. I ditto all other comments made and add: We absolutely loved driving up and down the 2 mile road, 1.5 being hard gravel. The gravel portion was graded nicely while we were there. We do have a Subaru Outback 4 wheel drive so that made the drive down a dream. Without the 4w it would mean a lot of brake use but doable. Many switch backs, corkscrew turns up, up and up. Meeting other vehicles along the way was a fun challenge as the road is single lane. Always worked out as there seemed to be only a handful of others on the mountain. The house is at the end of Harriett's Trail, topping the ridge. Two creeks to drive through (no warnings) or maybe the same waterfall twice. We never determined. I have over 65 years of coming to Waynesville so there is much great history as well as local family for us. This was our most fun and most beautiful stay. Even our local visitors said it was the most beautiful wide view they had ever seen on private property. Many called it the million dollar view and were sincere about it. We saw deer, hedgehogs, turkeys, etc., but no bears.
Although we didn't use the basement level we agreed that kids would have a great time there. It offered so much for them. The work out room is quite amazing also. We can't recommend this property enough. David, the owner who will meet you at the apple barn when you arrive, is delightful and most accommodating.
Hiking and mountain biking trails next to house.
