About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Aloha! You’ve found us! Boy are in for a treat! Keep reading to see why you stumbled across quite possibly the best value, one of a kind vacation rental in Hawaii in your price range that keeps our guests coming back year after year!

"Maui Sands was built back in a time when property wasn’t as expensive and developers took the time and money to make sure that their condos were surrounded by lush landscaping." - Fodors Travel Guide

First off, let’s quickly cover location. There are two buildings at Maui Sands that are direct ocean front. Our building (building 4) & building 5. Building 5 is backed by a parking lot, ours is backed by a mango tree & expansive lawn - so quietest building in the complex! Building 4 is also the closest building to the water (12ft from the condo) and our ground floor unit (4B) is just 25ft to the steps down to the water. You'll see abundant marine life at Maui Sands thanks to the Kahekili Marine Reserve that fronts the property. It prohibits the hunting & capture of many species of Hawaiian fish which benefits snorkelers & animal lovers! Beyond that is the Hawaiian Humpback Whale Sanctuary with the densest concentration of humpbacks in all of the Hawaiian Islands! The double reef system out front breaks the waves into bathtub calmess during low tides making it one of the best spots in Maui for toddlers to play in safety, Check out our live webcam (Google: Maui Sands web cam) to catch some breaching humpback whales in the winter months. The webcam is attached to the ceiling of my lanai so the view you get will be exactly what the webcam shows! Show your family and friends!

Now let’s talk about the amenities - this is where we really shine. Our 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath condo can be made upon request to have a comfortable king size bed in each bedroom or 2 twins in the second bedroom. We use a super comfortable 2” 100% natural latex king size topper to eliminate the crack so it feels like a real king size bed! Above the bedroom doors are bamboo louvres allowing more trade winds to flow through & let you fall asleep to the gentle sound of the surf so your bedroom door can be closed for privacy. The bedroom linens are 100% organic cotton! The queen sized sofa bed in the living room even comes with a special memory foam mattress which offers a more comfortable sleeping experience than traditional sofa bed spring mattresses.

The bathroom shower is a beautiful oversized step-in river rock tiled shower with a built-in bench & a shower head with a built-in chlorine filtration system. Both bathrooms are finished with granite counters and bamboo cabinetry,

The kitchen has beautiful bamboo cabinetry & granite counters. An extremely large & convenient kitchen sink, tons of dishes, glass Tupperware, cast iron fry pans and stainless steel pots & pans to help you with your Hawaii meals & avoid PBA plastics and Teflon if that is a concern for you. The double oven stove and fridge were both chosen because of their extremely efficient properties. There’s also a beverage fridge under the counter if you need it. The kitchen is equipped with a reverse osmosis filtration system and stainless steel water bottles so you don’t have to worry about buying bottled water or suffering with the horrible local water on tap. Make the best tropical smoothies using our powerful Vitamix blender or enjoy the best coffee with our stainless steel french press. There’s plenty of seating along the kitchen counter, in the dining area or out on the lanai (dining table, chaise lounges) for everyone to feel comfortable.

The living room area has been set up be a really fun & comfortable place! We have a 65” Ultra HD 4K TV on the wall which built in Netflix, Youtube etc and Blu-Ray player. Guests tells us the picture quality combined with our in ceiling 5 speaker surround sound system make movie watching rival what they have at home! And yes, we have a popcorn maker! If you find yourself with a kink in your back from the flight over or a pulled muscle from that snorkelling trip, then a massage would probably be really helpful! So to help our guests, we brought the massage into our condo! We have a full-body massage chair that is rated #1 in the world! It's called an Inada Dreamwave (Google: Inada Dreamwave). Imagine having this $10,000 chair waiting for you each day that you return from your outings to relax & unwind in while listening to the sound of the waves out front.

A few other amenities to note: secure and fast 200mb/s wifi private internet, beach chairs, snorkel & beach gear, umbrellas, beach towels, cooler, child stroller, shuffleboard equipment for your private use, 4 yoga mats and blocks, highchair & playpen with padding that can be used as a crib, cooking spices, rice maker, ice maker, & luggage scale to name a few.

We thought long & hard about how to make our condo environmentally friendly & health conscious as possible. Our eco-friendly mission is to have our guests feel good that their Hawaii vacation is the greenest possible. . (Google: Maui Sands) to find our professional website & learn more about our eco-friendly initiatives!

Looking forward to meeting you!

Aloha!

About The Owner

I have a 1 bedroom place in Kihei which I bought in 2007 (kiheirental dot com) and have lived there during the winter months until this year. I bought a 2 bedroom in Maui Sands (maui sands dot com) in spring 2011 (It was clear with my growing family that I needed a larger place). I am a web developer and philanthropist and try to do my part to make the world a better place.

I enjoy renting out our Hawaii home when we are off island so that other like-minded individuals can also experience an amazing part of the world while minimizing their carbon footprint.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2011

Why The Owner chose West Maui

After a very intensive search, we decided on Maui Sands. Here are 6 of many reasons:

1. The consistent trade winds blow from the Northeast so we wanted to stay upwind from the sewage treatment plants so that our air remained the freshest and cleanest in the world. Sorry Kaanapali!

2. The Kahekili Fish reserve is directly in front of Maui Sands. This results in an abundance of marine life and a restriction on certain fishing. The reserve ends a hundred yards to the north, so places like Kahana, Napili and Kapalua do not have this feature.

3. There is a kids playground with a new jungle gym 100 yards north of Maui Sands. This is a big hit with young families and my son. Access can be via the water, or the road from our condo.

4. There is a health food store (the only one in West Maui) only 150 yards north of us. It hosts a farmers market 3 times a week and is a great source for local produce and organic foods. Another option for groceries is the Times Market, a standard grocery store that is 400 yards south of us. There are lots of shops, restaurants and gear rental stores, all within walking distance.

5. Maui Sands is one of the original condos in all of West Maui and it has retained a lot of the old Hawaii feel of the 60's before the hotel boom. Maui Sands have a very low density of condos in its spacious grounds and combining that with the mature landscaping, old palm trees, vintage signs and rustic seawall, it certainly takes you back in time to an old Hawaiian experience.

6. Maui Sands has a very unique reef system which some argue has the most child-friendly calm waters of all of West Maui. There's a beach nick-named baby beach in Lahaina, that is popular with families because of the protected waters. It's water quality is quite poor however and pales in comparison to the crystal clear waters of Maui Sands. Please note: during high surf/swell situations, none of the Hawaiian waters escape the wrath of the Ocean.

What makes this condo unique

Maui Sands and our neighbour complex North of us are the last of the condos that can access the 1.5 mile long North Kaanapali Beach and Black Rock beyond by walking along the shoreline. If you like going for long walks in your bare feet, then Maui Sands is a good choice.

Maui Sands was built before there were any setback rules for buildings. As a result, having a condo within 12 feet of the ocean where you can feel the vibration of the surf from the lanai is a very rare and surreal experience. We enjoy being so close to the ocean that we can experience it with all our senses yet still be shielded from harm with the 8ft sea wall.

Week at Maui Sands.

  • 3 of 5

This is a great spot right on the water! Beautiful views and nice amenities. Came equipped with beach chairs, coolers, lots of towels, snorkel gear.etc. The unit was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Great location as well. Ryan was great and available to answer any questions.

Downside, Tv was very difficult to use, (3 pages of instructions) , sink faucet had a sensor on it that intermittently worked. We were able to get faucet to work 2x so that was a pain. We missed having AC.

Great Maui rental

  • 5 of 5

We loved our time at this beautiful apartment. It is well stocked and appointed, and the the view!!! We ate dinner in most nights so we could enjoy the private sunset. The location is great, close to grocery, restaurants, and beach, but we didn't find much reason to leave. One of our best rentals ever. Cannot recommend it enough. Thanks Ryan!

Maui Sands unit 4B - like home...and so much better

  • 5 of 5

This felt like home, the instant we walked in the door. Welcoming and breezy, beautifully appointed, meticulously designed, and perched at the edge of the spectacular views – this space is one we’d like to return to again and again. We fell asleep on comfortable beds to the sound of crashing waves, woke up to make delicious meals in the exceptionally outfitted kitchen, and enjoyed the quiet bliss of the lanai. Surrounded by peace away from the hubbub, we were still only minutes from all the best that Maui has to offer; a perfect location.

From the first inquiry to the last mutual thank-you, every interaction with Ryan has been superb. Thank you for making our time in paradise more than a vacation; it is a cherished memory.

As a personal side note, we especially appreciated the accessible shower, and the ease with which we were able to get into the ocean.

Did not want to leave...

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful condo that is extremely well taken care of. Everything you need, from chairs to ice chests, to towels is right here. I cannot offer enough superlatives to describe this condo. The kitchen has everything you would want or need, including a nice cast iron skillet that we used often. House is well furnished and you will want for nothing.

Our 10 year old daughter was up every morning at 6:00am and out in the waves, which are just a scant 12 feet from the back door.

Our only complaint is that it wasn't available for us to extend our stay! If you are looking for a unique spot, this is the one. Thank you Ryan!
