Close in vacation

  • 5 of 5

We didn't want to travel far for a vacation, we wanted something close in and relaxing. The cabin was that. Close to everything we wanted to do but the location with the river and trees made it seem like we were far away. We loved sitting by the river and listing to it, very relaxing. Also this cabin was pet friendly so we brought our dog with us. This making a very relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

River Sounds!

  • 5 of 5

The two best parts of this cabin were the wonderful sounds of the river (that was so relaxing) and the short walk to town. It was an older cabin than the two previous cabins we rented, but it was very cozy and comfortable and had everything we needed. It was fantastic to be able to walk into Gatlinburg and not use our car. I would love to return! ( everyone at Cabins For You was wonderful, and very understanding when we arrived and set off the alarm!! ) Great cabin and great company!

This cabin was so great! My husband and I stayed in this cabin for our honeymoon. It was in the perfect location and very romantic. We definitely enjoyed playing pool together (I had never learned to play). It was a quick walk into town and a short drive to Pigeon Forge. We enjoyed the river being right outside of our cabin as well! I can't wait to go back and stay again, we are all ready planning our trip for next fall!!

Completely wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at "On the River" last October, and after reading a not so great review, wanted to tell everyone how wonderful this cabin is. It's the perfect space for 2 people. Although we love mountain views, the mountain roads can be scary, so we opted for this cabin for our annual October trip. We had no problems getting into the cabin, and were so very pleased with every aspect, INCLUDING cleanliness. The big screen TV was awesome, watched several movies. The kitchen has everything we could have needed - we cooked every night. The outside grill is outstanding. The hot tub was the perfect temperature. The bed was extremely comfortable, and we loved listening to the river every night, lulling us to sleep. We could not get the gas fireplace to work the first night - we've always used wood-burning, so it was probably our fault. We called late our first night about it, and they were extremely friendly. During the call I mentioned that I found an ironing board but no iron. The next morning, before we were even out of bed, a new iron was sitting on the doorstep. We left to WALK downtown (a lovely change from driving in all the traffic) and when we got back there was a note saying they had fixed the fireplace. We had no problems at all-we loved the ambience of the dark wood, the arched doorways, and they are kind enough to leave a notebook with every number you may need, including grocery and drug stores, restaurants, hospitals, etc. AND sitting on the bench by the river one morning, we saw a mama bear with 3 cubs, our first bear siting in all the years we have vacationed in Gatlinburg. Even though it's right off the main strip and there are cabins on either side, it is quiet and peaceful, and we couldn't have been happier. The only reason we aren't staying in this cabin THIS October is because it was already booked. This cabin, and this company, are amazing and you can't go wrong staying at "On the River!"

Great cabin. Great location. We are always pleased. Third time in On The River Cabin. Did miss the fluffy robes. Great to be able to use the fireplace. We watched movies and stayed toasty warm. Our pet Bailey loved the easy steps into the cabin.

Not a happy Thanksgiving

  • 2 of 5

I just returned from staying here for my Thanksgiving getaway. I travel to Gatlinburg every year for the holiday weekend. I've stayed in other cabins, hotels, etc I liked the location, the layout of the cabin, the whirlpool tub, the big screen TV was nice too. The sound of the river was relaxing.

But what you can't see in all the photos is the DUST. I've never stayed anyplace so dusty. Webs of dust extending from the rafters to the ceiling fan between the light bulbs, behind the sofa, the blinds and window sills, over the doors, on the top of the headboard on the bed...the list goes on. The end tables and coffee table in the living room were drenched with furniture polish when I got there....but that's about all that was dusted. Unfortunately I'm allergic to dust, spent my holiday coughing and sucking on a rescue inhaler. It was irritating because the cleaning staff had the nerve to leave a card asking for tips.

That pool table in the pic is small but too big for the area it sits in and is not level. So if you play pool you will be smacking everything with the pool sticks and watching the balls roll to one end of the table. The wifi did not work the entire four days, even after the local cable company claims it did. My diagnosis on my laptop said the router was not working. The key pad to let yourself in is not lit so you can't see to get in at night without a flashlight, and there were no light bulbs in the light on that corner of the cabin. The second day i was there the key pad would not work so I couldn't leave without locking the door. I called and they said it would be half an hour before the repair man could get there. Turned out that a battery in the key pad unit had popped out of place. And beware of the wobbling toilet! Someone stuck some strips under it, but it didn't help.

Owner's Response: During this guests stay we did offer to send our cleaning staff out to re-clean the cabin, in which the guest refused. We also offered this guest a gift certificate towards a future stay, in which she also refused. Since their visit the bed has been fixed, and the keypad has been replaced. Our goal as a company is to do everything possible to please our customers. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to do so.
