Overview

About the property

Built in 2011 with a commitment to simple beauty and harmony with its natural surroundings, this cabin was designed by my architect sister with input from our family. With its understated luxury it preserves the delicate spirit of the Appalachian nature and features the work of artists and craftsmen of the Celo Valley.

Our cabin has three bedrooms and a loft and sleeps 6 people comfortably. The large, partially covered deck offers majestic views and cool breezes, even in the summer.

If you want a true mountain experience - with all the luxuries of a modern, beautifully decorated cabin - this is it.

About Lisa Steuer

We live in Charleston SC and Tampa FL and love our getaways to the mountains of North Carolina - especially in the hot summer months. In the fall, the colors are beautiful and remind us of where we grew up in southern Ontario and Bavaria.

Lisa Steuer purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Lisa Steuer chose Celo

My husband and I bought our cabin in 2006 and immediately fell in love with the people and surroundings of the South Toe Valley. Five years later we joined with my architect sister and her husband to build this new, beautiful cabin on the neighboring property, so now more people can experience the beauty of this area. We hope you will join us soon!

What makes this cabin unique

Hiking (easy walking or more intense hikes), biking, rock climbing, gem mining, fishing - this property has it all.

The cabin is within walking distance of the Pisgah National Forest. You can walk all the way to Mt. Mitchell and never get in a car.

Wonderful cabin for quiet getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We love coming back to this cabin! It is in a great quiet location about an hour from Asheville and skiing. So close to many wonderful hikes and waterfalls, as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway. Owners are amazing and accommodating! Thank you for allowing us to experience your wonderful cabin!

Great get away cabin

  • 5 of 5

Thanks you for sharing your wonderful cabin with us. The cabin was very clean with great views of the mountains. We stayed for spring break with our two sons and my in-laws and had a nice time exploring the surrounding area. We hiked most days and came home to a warm fire and great meals cooked there at the cabin. Thanks again for sharing your home with us.

Go here if you want to stay rural, but easy access to Asheville.

Short and sweet review, here we go:

Overall, awesome experience. Clean, ready for us, pet friendly, well equipped, beautiful, great view, good location, comfy beds, light reading material, everything needed for a nice getaway. Wife and I loved it.

IMPORTANT: It may at first appear some faucets do not have hot water. This is not the case, it just takes a while for it to get to the tap.

If we make it back in the area, we will definitely check availability here. Plus, the owner was amazingly prompt in communications leading up to our stay.

Exceptional spot. Very nice cabin

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cabin. Easy to get to (there was no winter weather at the time). Immaculate. Firewood on site and easy to use. Larger than i thought it would be. Wish it hadn't been so cold so we could have enjoyed the deck but it is winter time so no surprise there.

Mt Mitchell state park wasn't too far away.

Had some pretty good food in the nearby towns.

Great place...highly recommend.

Great cabin in a great spot

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was nicer/larger than it looked in the photos, very nicely furnished, equipped and maintained.

Walk out the door for miles of mountain trails, fishing near by, hiking in the highest peaks east of the Mississippi a short car ride away.

Could not have been better!

This cabin offers a relaxing escape from hectic city life. Here you will find restful recreation in the open arms of nature. If you love to hike, bike and fish, then you'll fall in love with the South Toe River Valley and the Pisgah National Forest. There are miles and miles of hiking trails and roads for biking and rivers for fishing. Through tunnels of dark-green branched rhododendron and flame azaleas, you can walk right from our cabin to Mount Mitchell. If the focus of your vacation is to explore the craft studios of the Appalachian Mountains, then you've come to the right place. There are over 200 potters, glassblowers, metalworkers and jewelry makers within a forty mile radius of our cabin. Penland School of Crafts is about a thirty minutes drive from Celo. Mount Mitchell Golf Course, Carolina Hemlocks State Park, Crabtree Falls, the Appalachian Trail and the Mountain Goat Farm are all just a short drive away.
